It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact Review & Swatches

This was provided to me by a brand for review and I receive a small commission if you shop using the links in this post but all opinions are my own.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact with SPF 50 is a brand new serum enriched cream foundation formula or balm if you will that promises full-coverage and a groundbreaking formula that includes ceramide complex, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, and squalane. The idea of the new It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact is to bring the power of their Confidence in a Cream to makeup so, you get a dual formula that acts as skincare as well as a makeup.

Let’s take a look at my swatches and review of the new It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact arrives this weekend at QVC.com several shade selections. This comes housed in a dual compartment chunky compact that holds a generously sized mirror and sponge on the upper levels and a second lid snaps open to reveal the cream foundation which is 0.63 oz in size. According to It Cosmetics this was created with all skin types in mind.

I happen to be a lover and stronger supporter of It Cosmetics CC+ Veil Beauty Fluid Foundation and on many levels you might consider this new Confidence in a Compact a variation of that formula. “But this is a balm and CC+ Veil is a fluid! Why are you comparing the two?” Yes, true, but the coverage on both are very, very similar and it’s almost as if they decided, “Well, some people don’t like fluid foundations so, we’ll give them a cream version of it!” Although the description says this is a full coverage foundation, I personally find it very sheer. The coverage is sheer, lightweight, and has pigment enough to even out your skin tone, conceal minor redness or darkness, and allow for a natural finish on skin. If you have major redness, blemishes, or other harder to conceal skin imperfections this might be the coverage for you. I’ve said time and time again I like subtle, natural coverage that eases my dull skin and brightens my complexion so this is a formula that’s ideal for my skin type. Basically, it takes my already good skin and makes it look even better.

The formula is indeed more of a balm than a cream foundation. I dislike cream compact foundation as they tend to be very heavy and emollient. Although they are commonly recommended for drier skin, I tend to avoid them as they tend to feel mask-like to me. I wouldn’t say Confidence in a Compact is a cream compact foundation but it is as described by It Cosmetics, as a balm. This has a very thin and light texture and it has the same citrus fragrance that the Confidence in a Cream has it which is quite strong but pleasant to my nose. My skin is fairly dry at the moment and even with a ton of prepping this didn’t quite sit as well as I had hoped for. I wouldn’t say it clung to my drier areas but it sort of sits on top of my skin and doesn’t sink in that well. The light texture blends easily but this will sound weird, it didn’t look patchy but it felt patchy. Yeah, that probably makes no sense but it was kind of unpleasant because I kept trying to check and see if the coverage was looking odd on my skin which it wasn’t thankfully but it still felt slightly weird. The Light shade was a good fit for me as it had a lighter beige undertone which worked well with my skin tone and it did brighten up my complexion beautifully. The wear is iffy as it tends to fade away rather quickly just like CC Veil. I can get about three hours in but at that three hour mark if I look in the mirror I feel like I never applied foundation at all.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact Swatches (Light)

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact is a very interesting formula. It might feel a little smoother on oily skin but on my own drier skin it felt like it didn’t quite absorb fully. I think I’ll stick with my beloved CC Veil for now but I wouldn’t say to write this one off. I think you might have to try it for yourself before deciding if it’s a love, hate, or a meh foundation.

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Compact is available in the new It Cosmetics New Year, New Confidence In Your Skin Collection that’s a QVC Todays Special Value and available now at ulta.com.

I’m so glad you did a review on this. I received an email from Qvc to order the tsv early but I’m undecided. I agree with you about after a few hours it looks like you didn’t apply any foundation. I do like the cc cream and use it every day, however I wish it would stay put! I have tried a few primers but that doesn’t seem to help. Do you use primer or how do you get your foundation to stay on?
    Thanks 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Melissa, wait, did you try this compact? Wasn’t sure if you ordered it or not? Yeah, def fades fast if this is what you used 🙂 I also didn’t like the way it felt on my dry skin, it felt odd, like it was laying atop my skin. I use either Revlon Photoready Primer, J One Jelly Pack, Clarins Flash Balm, Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Primer.

      • Melissa

No I have not tried this compact. I use the cc cream they make for my foundation. I will try a different primer because the few I have tried I’m not impressed. I have used the Revlon Photoready Primer it looks like a light pink and think it was for redness but it didn’t make my foundation stay on any longer. 🙁

        • Isabella Muse

ah gotcha! Sorry! I thought you meant this, typically the CC Cream lasts a lot longer on me than this or the CC Veil which fades super fast. Have you tried a fix mist? I don’t stand by them 100% in all honesty but many people hail their ability to keep things wearing long and strong!

          • Melissa

lol that’s okay! I have tried 2 of the face makeup setting sprays and haven’t had much luck with those either. If you have any other suggestions please let me know! I’m not giving up yet

          • Isabella Muse

are you dry or oily? Haha don’t worry we’ll get there!

          • melissa

Both actually. Mostly oily in the T zone, not too dry I am more this time of year.
            thanks

          • Isabella Muse

Covergirl Outlast All-Day Primer might be a good pick Melissa!

Hi, thanks for your review! i use a little concealer than the it cc veil in a compact that ulta sells and i have good coverage. I didn’t like the veil foundation so I think Ill pass.

Hope youre over that cold too!

FYI…the whole kit is presale on QVC site now.

    • Isabella Muse

Hey Alicia! I like the cc veil as well! Good stuff! I’m getting there! Thanks for asking!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

Do you remember when Tarte had a balm foundation in a TsV? I actually recently finished mine and didn’t mind it. Wondering if you could compare them if you have or had the Tarte?

    • Isabella Muse

I do remember, I reviewed it haha 😀 Bit more coverage with Tarte’s formula and also, the texture absorbed into my skin a lot better. It Cosmetics version feels a little more like it sits on my skin!

  • Cheryl

Hm. In light of your review, I will sit tight for now. I have no interest in the eye cream, as I got 10 very generous samples as a Sephora insider perk and they did not impress me. Although I liked the confidence in a cream, there are a lot of other moisturizers that I like just as well that cost a lot less. I love the finish and appearance of the CC Veil, but It just does not wear long enough. If this is more of the same, it’s probably not for me. I can’t justify spending that amount of money for something that doesn’t last a full work day. Thank you!!

    • Isabella Muse

The eye cream is nice, good moisture, but not much else! I expected to be wowed by it but wasn’t 🙁 My pleasure!

  • Betty

Tanks for the review. A definite no after your review. besides these types of compact foundations hold way less foundation. Less foundation for more money.

  • Kelly

Melissa, I use the CC cream and set it with the IT powder and it works. Sometimes I spray Urban Decay setting spray on top. The CC cream doesn’t really give me enough coverage, the powder is sometimes too dry – together they’re perfect for me.

  • diane

the coverage of this was nice once i build it up but sadly, like the confidence cream, both products broke me out.

  • Bonnie

Bad things happen when companies try to combine skin care and makeup (I’m looking at you, Pur Minerals pressed mineral foundation!) Thanks to your thorough review, I’ll be passing on this.

  • Estelle

Thanks so much for your review. I’m a huge it girl. I only use her cc cream and bye bye under eye Imho her Cc cream is the best. I use Mally’s primer and my makeup stays on all day.

    • Estelle

Forgot to say I use mostly all of her products. Love her bye bye redness too

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure dear! 🙂 She does some great base products, couldn’t agree more 😀

  • Denise

    Three hours of wear time?!

Thanks for saving me money. I’ll stick with the CC cream.

  • Becky

I just ordered it and now I don’t know after reading the review,I am spending money I really don’t have extra to use. Help!

  • Linda Peterson

I ordered the products from the TSV on QVC. I must be the only one who absolutely loves the make-up. I have searched and search for a make up that won’t settle in my pores. This actually made my skin look smoother. I did use the moisturizer and followed up with primer. It does take awhile getting use to the application process. Finally found a product that doesn’t make my skin look like an orange peal!

I was conflicted about trying this after the above comments. I’m a lot older than many of you, but only recently developed dry skin. I used marcujula oil first, then a primer. Didn’t apply too much of this product and followed with a powder. It has lasted all day & I’m very happy with the way it looks. I’m happy with my purchase! But different strokes for different folks!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m glad it worked for you Katherine. And I completely agree, different strokes for different folks!

I have combination skin and I’m 52 years old..I like this Foundation a lot. It looks like skin. Once it dries down it stays on most of the day..I do build up a little more on my nose where I get redness. I do not even use powder.. makes your skin look better throughout the day. I think it’s great for mature skin. Still trying to figure out if I need to use a primer with it.. going to try it today without a primer.
