Benefit GALifornia Review & Swatches

Benefit GALifornia is a new sunny golden pink blush that will be added to the Benefit Cosmetcs Box o’ Powder permanent Collection. Benefit Galifornia joins another new release this year which is Hoola Lite Matte Bronzing Powder a new shade of Hoola for lighter skin tones. Not to mention it follows in the foot steps of some cult favorites like Bella Bamba, Coralista, and more.

I’m a massive fan of NARS Orgasm, Milani Blossomtime Rose, Tarte Glisten, etc….! When I heard Benefit was doing a golden pink I was quite excited this is a color I favor.

Let’s take a look!

Benefits GALifornia comes housed in a 0.17 oz square box with a cute California surfer girl print. The color of the blush takes inspiration from the Califronia sun and the glow you’ll get from it. The blush comes with the traditional flat bristled blush brush that all Benefit powders come with. The bristles aren’t the softest but I always find these brushes are actually great for sweeping color onto your cheek bones easily. They brush also happens to fit really easily into the box so, it’s easy to load up color onto your brush.

If you love little touches of cuteness in your makeup you’ll appreciate the fact this has a zesty grapefruit scent. It’s actually supposed to smell like pink grapefruit and vanilla but to me it smells like a sweet, tart grapefruit. The scent is actually very subtle and doesn’t linger once you apply the blush. The blush has a gorgeous starburst design with a fine golden over spray which disappears once you swipe a brush through it. The color beneath is a bright coral pink. It isn’t comparable to golden pink like NARS Orgasm, Tarte Glisten, etc…this is a very bright pinky coral that runs cool in my opinion but will look beautiful on warm or cooler skin tones. It’s quite pigmented and the color builds easily. My sister is considerably darker than I am with tanned skin and it popped on her cheeks. I think it’ll look fabulous on tan or medium skin tone. The powder is soft and silky with a strong wear that didn’t fade or lose intensity after eight hours of wear. The color applied smoothly on my drier cheeks and didn’t cling to drier areas.

Over spray swiped away

Like many Benefit blushes, Galifornia is bound to become a cult classic. It’s a blush you’ll likely reach for often because it gives such a pretty pop of cute, natural, youthful color on cheeks!

I absolutely adored this shade and can’t recommend it enough.

I highly recommend this one for your Spring and Summer looks.

Thanks Muse. Color looks great on you. Do you know when this will be for sale? I read somewhere that it is in March. I am not sure. I also cannot wait.

    • Isabella Muse

Hi Maria thanks 🙂 I believe the 19th! I’ll post as soon as it goes live!

  • Heather

Totally looks like Coralista and Bella Bomba got married, had a baby and named it Galifornia!!

  • Dee

Absolutely want this! I love Coralista and this looks like it will be a favorite as well.

  • Nicole

How similar is this to the love flush blush from the Too Faced Funfetti collection?

          • Nicole

I bought the cheek palette and when I swatched, galifornia next to the funfetti blush, they were indistinguishable. Oh well!

          • Isabella Muse

Sorry to hear it. Funfetti looks incredibly different on my cheeks compared to Galifornia. You can always return it!

  • Dora

    Hi Muse,
Thanks to you I found my all-time favorite blush, Laura Geller Pink Buttercream. Would you mind telling me if this color is similar to Pink Buttercream? Thank you.

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure. Pink Butterceam is more of a rosy pink no coral to it. This is a pinky coral and much brighter in comparison. Very diff shades.

  • Emily

I super love this, both the fabulous packaging and the color as it appears swatched and on your cheeks. I coveted their cheekathon blush palette for a while, but never jumped on it. This may end up coming home with me once released.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks Em 😀 I def love that cheekathon palette too, adore having the powders all in one palette!

  • Jules

This looks so pretty and fresh on you! And it is odd…It definitely looks warm in your swatch, but cool on your cheeks!

Question–Bella Bamba was my all time HOLY GRAIL blush…But orgasm looks straight up orange on me… You mentioned that it wasn’t really an orgasm dupe, but how similar is it to Bella? It looks like a perfect watermelon pink on you, which is what I want on me!! Thank you!!

    • Isabella Muse

I think it can pull cool or warm depending on your complexion! Bella Bamba is considerably warmer with a lot less pink. This is a very bright pink coral! Hope this makes sense? Def not watermelon here, lots more pinky coral!

      • Jules

Thank you! Now I’m even more intrigued . I love complex, changeling colors…I think this may have to BE MINE.

  • Susan

Wow, this color looks beautiful on you. Give’s you a gorgeous luminous glow. But jeez I have a blush addiction and I don’t need anymore, but this one looks sooo very pretty! Just in time for spring/summer! Seriously, I think I need an intervention on my “problem.”

  • Elsie

Thank you so much for your reviews! I turn to you every time I need to research a product. Can you tell me if this is similar to NARS Deepthroat? They swatch seems close in the picture. Thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks Elise xoxox! Flattered! Not really, I think it’s a lot more pink!

  • Janessa

Ugh you’re right. It’s gorgeous on you! OK I’ll give it another look next time I’m in the store 😉

    • Isabella Muse

aw thanks <3! Def take a look at it, it's really a pretty shade!
