Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence Review

Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence ($20) is yet another fabulously great Korean skincare product that’s low in coast and extremely effective. You might recall earlier this month I reviewed CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence which might have made you turn away in disgust. If the idea of using snail extract on your face isn’t terribly appealing yet you’re still intrigued by the highly moisturizing formula you might find Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence a better option.

I’m of the strong belief that those suffering dullness or finer lines will see a smoother, brighter complexion if they inject a healthy amount of moisture into their diet. I can’t say I have finer lines on my face yet unless you count under my eyes. I do however, suffer from dullness and I always find that the more moisture I’m using the better my complexion looks.

Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence is one of those star products that will not only hydrate your skin but also, helps to retail moisture and that to me is very important.

Finding a product to hydrate your skin quickly and effectively is a pretty easy task! Moisturizers are loaded with ingredients like glycerin, jojoba, argan, and ceramides to smooth, soften, and hydrate your skin. But sometimes results can be fleeting depending on the ingredients in the formula and your skin is back to being dry again if you aren’t consistent with application. Find a product that retails moisture is key. You want something that not only hydrates your skin but also helps you to retain that moisture and even works to draw more moisture into your ingredient.

In recent years, Hyaluronic Acid/Sodium Hyaluronate has become a star product for moisture retention. This particular ingredient acts like a magnet, drawing moisture into your skin and holding it. Apparently it can hold up to six liters of water and it does so without being heavy, greasy, or oily.

Cosrx’s Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence is a thin runny gel-texture that has a slightly tacky texture with absolutely no fragrance. The thing most fans of Cosrx is the fact they don’t include a lot of fillers in their skincare. They include the very important basics and that’s it. And in doing so, they create a very effective formula. One of the few ingredients in this essence is Sodium Hyaluronate which acts to draw moisture into your skin. It’s a very gentle formula that when used daily will improve the texture of skin as well as ease dullness while hydrating dull, dry, and dehydrated skin types. It’ll work across the board for a variety of skin types because the formula is so gentle and doesn’t create unnecessary oil or shine nor will it clog pores. Of course, everyone’s skin varies but this is a formula that should work for many.

You do want to remember to seal this product so, using it alone isn’t going to be as effective as using it in conjunction with your own moisturizer. Apply one to two pumps to your face and gentle place your palms against your skin to allow the product to absorb. It does have a slightly tacky feel at first but once absorbed that tackiness disappears. After application, apply your favorite moisturizer.

The results?

Smooth, soft, well hydrated skin that will be well protected against environmental damage (but please don’t forget your SPF as well!) and even acts to reverse damages caused by the environment.

If your skin is looking a little dull lately I’d wildly suggest trying this out for yourself and seeing the visible difference.

Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Hydra Power Essence is available now at ulta.com and comes with a Muse Approval.

Have you tried their Galactomyces? I’m curious about it, but since my skin is dry, maybe this HA essence will work better.

I have but I really didn’t notice any major brightening from it!

Do you prefer this over the Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion – or are they not comparable products/the same step in a routine?

    • Isabella Muse

Different textures, different formulas, Monica! This is more a runnier gel and it absorbs a little easier. Hada Labo Lotion (not milk) is literally a liquid and a lot sticker, tackier. In comparison, both hold and retain water well but you might benefit more from Hada Labo if you have drier skin because it really is a supremely good pick for retaining moisture and keeping skin plush and pumped! I prefer Hada Labo in the evening and Cosrx in the AM as it wears better under makeup versus Hada Labo’s formula that takes a little longer for application and also to set.

Hey Muse! I was just shopping at rose rose shop earlier and she has all her cosrx stuff 30% off. I’m not affiliated, just an enabler. 🙂 Thought I would let you know!

  • Judy

Oh exciting!! Have you tried their Cosrx Hyaluronic Acid Intensive Cream? If not, will you? I would love to hear your opinion on it.

    • Isabella Muse

I have 😀 I’m actually going to try and follow up with a review on it this week 😀 maybe today!

Prob will try this after I finish the Hada Labo orange top. Adore Cosrx. Low ingredient lists are good for those of us with reactive skin. Easier to figure out what causes the problem. And being anti-fragrance in skincare is not easy, when you lost your sense of smell. Great tip, Siangali. Thanks.

Ms. Muse, I am a 40 something with generally “normal” to slightly occasionally dry skin , but dessicated under eyes. By the end of a 15 hour day, my face generally looks and feels kind of tight and my foundation can get a bit flaky. Do you think I would be better off with the Cosrx snail musin, hyaluronic acid, or both? If both, one in the a.m. and one in the p.m., or can you layer them without feeling as sticky as a movie theatre floor? Thanks!

I’d go with Hada Labo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluronic Acid Lotion (https://www.musingsofamuse.com/2017/01/hada-labo-gokujyun-premium-hyaluronic-acid-lotion-review.html) in the evening and you can use Hydra Power Essence in the day prior to moisturizer 🙂 The combination of the two should make you feel plumped and hydrated. You also might want to use Elensilia Escargot Original Repair Cream under it, it’s fantastic and retains moisture well (https://www.musingsofamuse.com/2017/03/elensilia-escargot-original-repair-cream-simply-best-snail-extract-cream.html) Hope this helps 🙂

Thank you! Much appreciated! Im not sure why, but my skin has been extra dry lately and I had been looking for something to help add some moisture without a lot of heavy, occlusive ingredients. Fingers crossed…

Good morning, Isabella. I ended up buying the Cosrx snail mucin at Ulta, using points (win!) and liked it, so I got the hyaluronic acid power essence from Cosrx also. So far, they seem to be great additions to me skin care routine. I am using: (a.m.) hydrating toner, AHA/BHA toner, snail mucin, antioxidant serum, and moisturizer with SPF. (P.m.) hydrating toner, hyaluronic acid essence, retinol serum mixed with a drop or 2 of jojoba oil, and moisturizer mixed with a drop or two of argan, Maryland, and/or rose hip oil. found that adding oils to my routine at night really reduced the amount of oil my skin produces during the day, such that I am no longer combination/oily, but normal to dry. I actually prefer normal to dry, because my make up where’s much better throughout the day. The addition of the two Cosrx essences really seems to be helping to avoid my skin getting to dry by the end of a long workday. Thanks for the reviews! Two thumbs up!

You say to “seal” this product with a moisturizer. I use facial oils every night after my essences is that ok? After i let the oil sink in I follow with an aloe Vera gel. Would I still get the benefits of this hyaluronic acid essence doing this.

    • Isabella Muse

that’s fine! Any moisture to see it in is good moisture 🙂

  • Kelly

Can you please suggest a moisturizer to use for combination skin type, after applying that cosrx hydra power essence? Thanks!

    • Isabella Muse

I’m not really sure, I have dry skin so most of my recs come from that place! I’m sorry, wish I knew a good combo moisturizer but honestly, at a loss since I shop dry skin everything!

  • Mary

I use the premium hada labo gokujyun lotion as my toner. I noticed that you do as well. Do you use this after the toner too or do you use a different toner since it would be hylauronic acid overload lol not like thats a problem

    • Isabella Muse

I typically apply this after and seal with moisturizer 🙂

So what’s your nightly skin routine and does it differ during the day? I live in Colorado and the dryness/ lack of humidity is killing my skin! I actually peel in the winter!

    • Isabella Muse

Nightly and daily are most definitely different. I rotate a lot of products but this is mainly what I use in the evening.

      Nooni Snowflake Cleansing Balm
      Nooni Snowclake Cleansing Whip
      hadanomy mist
      innisfree fermented soybean energy essence
      cosrx hyaluronic acid
      hada labo gokujyun lotion
      charlotte tilbury night cream
laneige firming sleeping mask (I rotate sleeping masks often but right now this is what I’ve been using).

    Hi Isabella! 🙂

Just wondering, do you know how this compares to The Ordinary’s Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5? I don’t know if I should just get one of them, or both of them, or what the differences/similarities are between them in the first place. ^^”

For hyper pigmentation and scars , what will be most suitable ?
