Ulta Rainbow Highlighter Potential to Break the Internet

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I’m sure Ulta Rainbow Highlighter will potentially break the Internet once it hits social media. Remember Wet n Wild’s Rainbow Highlighter getting all sorts of insane coverage when it launched last year? I’m always slightly amazed at which makeup and beauty products will cause a frenzy and have people foaming at the mouth. Apparently rainbow highlighters are one of those things that make makeup lovers go insane in the membrane.

But then again, nowadays everything causes a frenzy in the makeup world!

If all the unicorn, mermaid, and magic beauty trend excites you, your glitter loving heart will love this little highlighter from Ulta. It looks about the same as Wet n Wild’s version with a little bit of a higher tag of $10. But hey, if shimmering, magical rainbows on your face is your deal you can grab it up now at Ulta.com.

As for me I’m a horrible, rotten, no good shimmer lover. Why? Because the whole unicorn makeup thing is making me roll my eyes a little. I’m so not into it! I may or may not still have my Rainbow Brite doll stored in my attic, I admit nothing, but I’m just not willing to take the trend to my face!

How about you?

Yeah, I know, I’m no fun and a total killjoy. Sue me 🙂

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I need this! Ulta needs a site to store delivery option so I can buy online and pick up in store so my husband doesn’t question all my deliveries!

  • Lauren

I’m just surprised they’ve got the colors in the correct order, lol!

The first rainbow highlighters did give me an immediate “I want that!!!” response, because they looked so different. But there have been so many takes on the idea since then that they are no longer that appealing to me. I didn’t even buy the Etude house one; granted that one was super low quality with no pay off. But if it had released like a year earlier, I might have picked it up just to admire it lol.

    • Isabella Muse

likewise! Now I’m like, come on I can’t pull this off ;-D Neither did I lol I’m shocked at myself for not wanting the EH one! Even poor quality I’d totally have snagged it just because 😀

        • Isabella Muse

haha Isa 😀 sorry about that! I think I lost count of the stuff I’ve brought because of ME lol!

  • Sheree

Oily skin here. No need for highlighters, let alone rainbow unicorn ones!

  • Danielle

Sigh… Muse, I’m getting old. I honestly don’t see the appeal either of rainbow shimmer on my face.

      • Susan

I AM old, and while I think having fun is great, this kind of thing is such a waste of money in my book.

I’ll be glad if and when we get back to the fashion of “highlight” being natural light reflecting off of healthy skin. (And yeah, Muse, cue “Good Morning, Starshine” ONE MORE TIME!!)

LOL! Gliddy glup gloopy nibby nabby noopy la la la lo lo Sabba sibby sabba nooby abba nabba le le lo lo Tooby ooby walla nooby abba nabba Early morning singing song! Honestly, I totally get the look! Some girls can totally rock it! I just can’t lol! I really don’t love the rainbow, unicorn thing! Not really my style!

TF funny!!! Heard the tune and all! It sounds like the goofy tunes for the new dog. Will have to use the tune for Patticake!!! Patti little dachshund, spotty little dachshund, you short legged girl. I think the rest of it gets vulgar. Some people notice the 17″ top line, others the nippies, bec she was a puppy mill mama dog. You got those original lyrics down pat! And they make as much sense now as they did then!
I am older than old, but actually might wear this, if they didn’t all run together and look too glittery. Using old Dior and Nars iridescent shadows for offbeat highlighter, though not majorly on that train. S.t. use only highlighter, w/o blush or contour, esp the darker ones.

Maybe 20 years ago I could have pulled this off. Now…oh hell no!

  • sleepybird

Not a fan either of all the unicorn/mermaid/Disney inspired makeup trends right now. I understand a desire for whimsy, but alas I am am adult and prefer to look like one. That’s why I am so excited for the UD Basquiat collection. Something for grown ups and a refreshing change!

  • Chris

Definitely for teens and maybe tweens?

So your face highlights with multiple shades of iridescence?

  • Silvia

Silly me ended up getting two of the WetnWild ones! Lol! I’m old I’m turning 53 this month on the 27 th but love to try different things and rotate my makeup daily just pulled my Spring/Summer shades to the front of my collection. The WetnWild unicorn i would say is not the best compared to the other from WetnWikd and I have them all, but it is decent a bit more gritty I would say and actually the crazy rainbow does not really show unless you dip a knife into the colors. It comes out just as a golden pretty highlighter I do use it and feel magical just waiting for my unicorn horn to grow out of me. I’m a sucker for all that magical stuff. I use a bit on my eyes sometimes. This darn highlighter was such a fuss to find I could not grab at Rite Aid, Walgreen, CVS or Target so I ordered two from the website but enjoy looking at it! So pretty! It is magical indeed! 😉

I got the original Prism rainbow highlight from Bitter Lace Beauty after THAT broke the Internet, but honestly, I’m getting a little tired of these trends. I honestly haven’t even used that highlighter too, it’s too pretty to wear and not really practical. Unicorns are fun, but now everyone has their own unicorn/mermaid/pixie something and I’m just a little burned out by it. That’s why I got so excited when Morphe magically dropped a gold palette! Golds, browns, nudes. That’s what I live for.

    Because I’m boring womp womp!

    • Isabella Muse

that one REALLY broke the Internet haha! 😀 I didn’t get it, was tempted but I questioned would I look at it or use it. Looking at was high on the list so I was like, “nope, don’t need it!” I am too! Love mermaids, unicorns, etc but I feel 13 all over again Lisa Frank style 13 lol! def liking that gold, brown morphe palette that’s more my speed ;-D

  • Yen

This is so pretty! But I’m not very into the rainbow highlighter trend. I just want to buy it in order to stare haha! I may or may not sneak around Ulta to see if it eventually shows up in stores. For some reason this reminded me of rainbow frosting on a cake, LOL! If cake looked this pretty, I’d have no problem eating it.

  • Jenn

I’d say I NEED this in my life, except I bought a dupe from Hollar last fall, and it’s gorgeous. I LOVE seeing rainbow makeup in action on ladies (and men)! I hope the trend never dies.
