About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

Two Covergirl eyeshadow palettes: Peach Punch and Dazed. Also, one of the new Maybelline Shine Compulsion lipsticks. (Three bottles of Boyfriend, Muse?!! That must be some amazing perfume! Gotta check it out.)

    • Isabella Muse

lol I’m so worried it’ll disappear again!!!!!!!!!!!! first I ordered two and than I was like I better get one more. How are you liking the lipstick!?

      • Linda Whitener

It’s wonderfully moisturizing (something I have really missed while the industry’s been pushing matte lipsticks on us) and the color I bought (Pink Fetish) is vibrant. If there’s one small issue, it’s this: it tends to migrate a little at the corners of my mouth. I think the answer is simply to skip applying it in the corners (since it’ll end up there all by itself anyway! 😉

        • Isabella Muse

ugh I’m so tired of mattes totally into moisture and shine please! ;-D I always have corner of my mouth migration no matter the formula ;-D

  • Adrienne

My most recent was a drugstore miss. I purchased the Maybe line tattoo studio brow tint pen. I loved the texture and precision because I am afraid of microblading but this had great application UNTIL 2 hours later my soft brown turned olive green. It’s a shame because this would have been a great product. My other purchase was Almays Goddess Gloss which I haven’t opened yet.

    • Isabella Muse

oh no sorry to hear that 🙁 I got one of the glosses too! testing now!

  • Dea

Oooh… got part of the Beached collection from Urban Decay. Eyeshadow palette, the Lucky (copper) eyeliner, the Sun-kissed bronzer and the 100 degrees (pink) lipstick. Had to order it on the UK site as it’s not available here in NL so it’s currently at my brother’s house. Not so patiently waiting for him to get his ass down to the post office!!

    • Isabella Muse

Haha Dea ;-D I laughed at getting his ass down to the PO! How do you liked the Beach Palette? Not waiting on that I hope!?

      • dea

Not been able to try any of the collection. Not even been able to swatch it. We live in a make-up graveyard and unfortunately many companies either don’t ship here or if they do, it costs an arm and a leg. The assortment is getting better and better over the years admittedly but so many specials and mini launches never make their way over here. Not bad as I would have to sell my kids to keep up with my makeup habit lol. So sometimes I ask my brother to help me out. But he doesn’t understand words like limited edition, life or death, and urgent. He’s like oh yeah I forgot eek!

  • Maria

The Milani most loved matte s palette. The Juvia’s place warrior palette. Bath and body body creams. Laura gelle r DEW drops duo for $30 on qv c. LAURA g cheek to chic blush palette from QVC and some Essence makeup blushes

      • Maria

Muse, You should try Essence blushes and powders. There are new shades and powders. The ones I have are made in Poland. Website has free shipping with $15 purchase

        • Isabella Muse

I actually already tried some of the singles! They are quite lovely ;-D

  • Dee

Thanks to your post on Bare Minerals and the 20:% off code I picked up the Gen Nude Neutral Palette! Also recently got Clinique Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream and Mineral Pressed Powder (fingers crossed this works as IT Cosmetics Redness Cream did nothing), L’Oreal Colour Riche Shine Lipstick in Luminous Coral, L’Occitane Aqua Reotier Water Gel Cleanser and Ultra Thirst Quenching Gel. During Macy’s event last week I got Philosphy Time in a Bottle Serum. I’ve tried their fragrances, lotions and cleanser but never any skin care. I’ve only used it for a few days but really like it. And that needs to be the end of hauling for me….except for that Lorac Pro 4 Palette! I didn’t get Soft Glam so this appeals to me and I love Lorac eye shadows. I will wait to see in store first though.

    • Isabella Muse

YAY! ;-D glad you got them! Sweet haul!!! I’m a huge fan of the Miracle Worker pads! They are my fav 😀 I can’t wait to see 4 too! It looks gorgeous!

  • Kish

Tarte Shape Tape Hydrating foundation, I found a perfect shade match. Was using the IT bye bye foundation for a while, but I just didn’t love it. No good shade match, plus it never seemed to set and moved too much. Also picked up Skinfood Cranberry Mask, two items from the WnW Goth collection, and two of the $9.98 boxes from WalMart and the PF butter palette with the perfume. The boxes are really impressive for the price, I got one of the hair ones and the lip gloss one.

  • Ricki Simon

Josie Maran Vibrancy Fresh Face Palette, Laura Geller Matte Maker duo with Brush, Jo Loves No.42 The Flower Shop.

    • Isabella Muse

let me know about the Josie palette I had it in my cart!

      • Ricki Simon

Just got it! So pretty! Very light – translucent coverage. Looks and feels like a stain. I really like it but then I prefer non-matte bronzers and blushes. Work better on my dry skin.

  • Magenta Wilde

You do love your fragrances, don’t you, lol. If you were ever to do a collaboration, I could see an Eau de Muse coming out.
I’ve been trying to use more things up but I did buy more of the bare minerals complexion rescue tinted gel cream. It’s growing on me more and more and it’s one of the few things I’m actually using up, so I’m feeling a bit smug and grown up about it.
I also had an itch to splurge at the drugstore so I bought a Burt’s Bees lipstick in Suede Splash. I needed it like another hole in the head, but wanted it. I happen to like their lipstick formulas so it seemed like a good splurge to add to my collection.

    • Isabella Muse

;-D I do indeed sometimes more than makeup! 😀 I have Suede Splash, can’t blame ya on the backup lovely shade that one!

  • Moxie

Glamglow Poutmud in Sugar Plum, $9 at TJMaxx. So far it’s pretty meh, far better tinted balms out there for less money and actual colour payoff.

Blackberry Shine from Nivea is a very similar tint for a third of the price, and lasts longer on the lips.

  • Carol G

I’m in a makeup funk…nothing interests me. However, I did purchase a trio of Julep Lip Butters from QVC, and the UD Beached palette and the 100 degrees lipstick. I love that Beached palette. Been wearing it a lot because it’s really pretty. Been on the hunt for those Maybelline Shine Compulsion lipsticks though…

    • Isabella Muse

I feel you! Not a lot of makeup has really caught my attention the last few months!

  • KimMWC03

Four candles and a bunch of other stuff from the SAS at Bath & Body Works, Lime Crime Cherry gloss, bh cosmetics Weekend Festival palette and one of their liquid shadows in Gal Pal, and a few other things I can’t remember right now.

  • Terumi

I hauled some Pacifica skin care – the pineapple quench serum, coconut milk cleanser, a few of the lip balms, and the spf spray. I also treated myself to Moroccan Oil smoothing shampoo and conditioner, the hype is definitely there for a reason. My usually frizzy hair is so smooth and glowy that I may skip the Brazilian blowout this summer.

  • Laurie

I’ve been trying to figure out how not to spend so much money on skincare, so have been trying Korean and Japanese products on Amazon. My Biore sunscreen is half what I used to pay for LaRoche Posey Anthelios, and rather than pay Paula’s Choice prices … which have really crept up … I’m buying COSRX for AHA and BHA. I’ve also given up Tatcha cleansing oil for an inelegant but effective Hadolabo. And a huge bottle of nutrient-rich Kikusamune Sake Skin Lotion is my new essence.

    • Isabella Muse

Korea and Japan have so many affordable options I can’t blame you for switching and the formulas are just as amazing!

      • Laurie

I added up how much I spend in a year on skincare and almost passed out. I just “retired” from my freelance work and don’t have that money to play with anymore. Now I need to replace my eye serum, which is $68 full price. I never pay that much, but because, well, gravity, I need to come to grips with its limitations and find something cheaper.

        • Isabella Muse

aw! There are plenty of affordable options out there!!!!!!!!!!

    • kjh

What the bloody h$&*? Are you my granddaughter? Paula has to be major pissed at me, replacing virtually everything with Cosrx. Course, if I had not leaned about effective pH for acids to work from Paula, wouldn’t have noticed Cosrx. And would probably still have acne, at pushing 70! Going to use the U extra point thing on all Cosrx re-ups, methinks.

  • Gisela

I decided to finally try some Anastasia Beverly hills products! They are quite expensive where I live so I couldn’t resist when beautybay had 30% off your whole purchase. So I got the modern renaissance and soft glam eyeshadow palettes and a blush kit in color Radient.

Very happy so far, soft glam is right up my alley. Haven’t really touched MR much yet but I figured I will when fall arrives. Feels like I’m the last person on earth to buy MR haha.

    • Isabella Muse

ya awesome deal and awesome haul! Who cares!? You own it now 😀 and you’re ready for Fall (and Summer! Some of those shades are great for Summer looks!)

    • Agona

I have a few friends that aren’t makeup junkies like me (and on a budget) but still enjoy eyeshadows and the only two palettes they own are MR and Soft Glam–covers all their eye look needs.

  • Agona

Ugh. We’re not even halfway through June yet and I’ve hauled:
    – Kiko’s Jelly Jungle collection: the two Kiko palettes (so adorably small; they’re the same size of their quads!), the two strengthening nail bases (I figure I can wear them on their own for work since I’m not allowed to wear colors that are in high contrast to my skin tone AND they’re nail nourishing), and a black eye pencils (I want to try Kiko’s eye pencil formula; I’m still looking for my HG)
    – the 6 eyeshadow singles from Kiko’s Sparkle Up collection (2 arrived damaged, waiting on replacements, sigh)
    – 8 eyeshadow singles from Kiko’s clearance section, because they were dirt cheap and I want to experiment with singles because I am a palette girl (1 arrived damaged, waiting on replacement)
    – Etude House’s summer 2018 Gelato eyeshadows (they had a deal where they were sold as a set with an empty palette)

…that sounds like a lot of eyeshadows when I list them out like that. But I decluttered 5 large palettes and 2 quads beforehand to make room. Ugh.

    • Isabella Muse

How many total gelato shades were there!? I feel like I’m missing some! Damn girl, that’s a lot of eyeshadows lol good for you!

      • Agona

5…but the empty palette had 8 pans! I know that’s going to drive me nuts eventually.

Eyeshadows are my weakness and the only thing I collect. But I only store them in the bottom drawer of my nightstand and a clear acrylic organizer under my vanity. That forces me to declutter to make room if space runs out. I also limit my brands: I collect all BE palettes, all Heimish (Korean) palettes but only tarte’s Rainforest of the Sea formula, and a few Chanel quads (cost prohibitive for me to collect); I use Kiko and Etude House as a way to try out trends/formulas/formats (EH for Korean trends/formulas/formats) on the cheap so I can experiment/discover whether or not I like or dislike something before committing more money (hence my recent foray into single shadows). Everything else is onsie-twosies (like a MUFE trio before they reformulated with white/gray/black for a classic smoky eye).

        • Isabella Muse

Oh good! I was concerned I missed some!!!!! I’ve slowly started collecting individual shades again lately because I feel like palettes don’t really have that great a formula! You’re awesome for decluttering! I fear I collect and collect and collect and tend to not declutter as much as I am buying!

          • Agona

Yes, definitely. EH’s Look at my Eyes formula is far superior to their palettes/quads!! I had started collecting them too at one point but then realized EH recycles their colors and everything in their permanent collection basically gives you the “sunset eyes” look (because that’s what’s trendy).

Try Hemish if you haven’t already! My fav Korean YouTuber raves about them. They offer color stories not often found in Korean brand (like grays and blues) and the palettes always include a glitter topper that is easy to apply/blend–I love glitter/shimmer/metallic on the mobile lid!

          • Isabella Muse

I really enjoy the singles as well! The new 15 pans are actually nice as well but all in all their singles do reign supreme! But you’re right a lot of the shades are the same over and over. I own one of the Hemish palettes, the peachy one, and really love it!

          • Agona

I was curious about their new 15 pans! I also want to try their dupe for the Kiko Water Shadows but they’re pretty pricy for EH (they’re also expensive at Kiko’s so not surprising. The only 1 I own I bought on clearance)…the Satin/Cashmere Fit eye singles didn’t really appeal to me though; they looked too matte.

          • Isabella Muse

Not bad! Not the greatest but not bad! I reviewed one today! EH has been doing up and up in price lately which does surprise me. Those new 15 pans are near $27 each! That’s pretty high for EH! I did get them for $23 from F2PLUS1 which was a nice deal but felt like still for EH that’s high! I was concerned the Cashmere Fit would be too try as well. Off topic but did you ever get the Memebox Pony Cream Shadows? I’m lemming them so bad now that people have jacked the price on theM!

          • Agona

No but they got good reviews from Korean YouTubers. I *have* tried Pony’s pressed shadows (palettes and quads) and found them pretty but took a lot of effort to work with.

          • Isabella Muse

I hate paying so high for them since they aren’t readily available. Blah! Aw really!? I typically like the stuff she’s done with memebox!

  • Lily

Recently I got repurchased the Caudalie Beauty Elixir, love that stuff as a refresher and as toner. I also got a set of Briogeo clay products set from Sephora, the shampoo is really good with a cooling sensation on my scalp, love it! I also finally got the Chocolate Gold from Too Faced and I’m really loving it.
I’m trying to limit my eyeshadow palette purchases because even though I would love to own all the pretty palettes not getting any use out of what I already have is a pet peeve of mine.

    • Isabella Muse

I really need to cut down my palette purchasing too! Because really I only have two eyes!

    • Agona

That’s why sometimes I declutter things…to give more love to the things I want to give love to. 🙁

  • Kris

I needed something to up my Macy’s order to get free shipping and what a coincidence; they’ve got Tarte Amazonian Clay blush on sale. After doing some research, I got exposed and blushing bride. They’re gorgeous in the pan. I just got them and haven’t had a chance to try them out. I really hope the formula is as fantastic as everyone says because I’ve been really disappointed with everything from the drugstore the last few years.

  • Deecee

    My weekend haul:
2 Colourpop Eye Palettes in Double Entendre and and Kathleen Lights Dream Street

Cover girl TruNaked Eye Palettes in Sunset and Chocoholic (smells yummy)

Bite Beauty Lipstick in Smoked Za’atar

Anddd….Today I found the new Urban Decay Palette Born to Run!!!!

Eyeshadows for days lol!!’ Can’t wait to play!

  • Ruth

I’m on a low buy for make-up to try and use what I have already, which is a lot! I did purchase stila’s fairy tail in the glitter & glow as well as a new base & top coat nail polish. The most exciting thing I bought recently was Jim Butcher’s Brief Cases! He was here in the DMV and I had a chance to meet him again and he signed my book for me! I’m still waiting for Peace Talks (“I did my waiting! Twelve years of it”) but he seemed a lot happier than the last couple of times he was here. Before he was grumpy af-but I heard his ex-wife was super extra *eye roll*. so hopefully Peace Talks will be sooner rather than later

    • Isabella Muse

SWEET! I do so love Harry! Awesome you got your copy signed! You sound like everyone on reddit lol! “Where the hell is Peace Talks!?” He’s pulling a GRRM with peace Talks 🙂 I didn’t even know he was married. He comes across as the quintessential geek living in his mom’s basement writing books.

      • Ruth

apparently he’s getting married later this year after dragon con- i know!! He’s totally a giant geek (like we’re ones to talks =)) I can’t help it, it’s been four years since Skin Game, and i have a mighty need!! I was spoiled, I was getting a new book every year, and now we’re encroaching on GRRM territory.
here’s the proposal to his fiance
        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPoCQgGp4Cw

        • Isabella Muse

damn you my eyeliner is running now. that was so cute. first time I seen that. Honestly, I felt compelled to re-read skin game because I forgot what I read after all this time lol! I miss Harry, it’s nice he’s back.

          • Ruth

if i had to cry, so did you! I finished brief cases and started another book, and it just wasn’t doing it for me. so i pulled storm front off of the shelf and read almost half if it last night. damn, i missed Harry!

  • Ashley

I’ve been obsessed with Meghan Markle lately, and me thinks the minimalist makeup approach will see a bit of a revival soon. After watching the wedding, and though I was very happy for them both, a wave of sadness (and maybe a little bit of envy) immediately followed thereafter as I returned to my normal life. I began feeling I, too, needed a refreshing change of something, and I had to pause for a moment and really reflect on what it could be. Meghan is just enormously confident about herself, which I truly admire and respect about her, and she is this without the pile on of foundation, highlighter, contour, eyeshadow, liquid lipstick, etc. I will always be a freakish makeup fanatic, but right now I want to focus on natural beauty (we all do possess it) without doing the most. I’ve been revisiting my old “less is more, no-make up make up” routine, and found out I needed to do a haul of Glossier (the official makeup of minimalists). Really curious to see what the hype is all about, I got three skin tints, a couple cloud blushes, a wowder powder, a lip balm, and some cotton pads. The whole line is make up that is as loud as a whisper, which I thought was perfect for my mission. Those skin tints, I hear, are nothing more than skin tone watercolors, and I have never been more excited to pay for next to nothingness. Also went over to Wet n Wild and picked up some fresh pro brushes (LOVE THOSE!) for my new fresh face, which will be dedicated to the cause. And I picked up some Kat V D brow powder for *softly* defined brows from Sephora. A touch of mascara and dark brown eyeliner, and hopefully I’ll have my “woke up like this” look confidently done in 5 or less. My boyfriend thought it was hilarious that I had to spend more money to wear less make up, but I needed “super sheer” in my collection.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m loving this Ashley 😀 it sounds great for Summer too! 🙂

  • kjh

Wow, my iPad has been crashing; i’d already replied. So much for big S low to no buy. Bite crushed chili and star anise, Nars voodoo lily, and the fenty killawatt in poolside/7 day wknd. The last one is unreal, both as HL and shadow blender. Even on oldbies, like me:so refined a shimmer. Then, had to cruise the sale section and hauled the Chloe haul 2 and UD troublemaker palettes. Just found them waiting at 11P after night (and day) job (both just HORRID today.) Nice surprise.

  • Isabella

that Rio di Janerio body glow oil at Sephora, check it out
stocked up on LaMer at Bloomingdales with their latest promo

don’t need anything else after that

  • Kim

Picked up the Subculture palette when it was on sale at Macy’s a few weeks ago. Figured if I hated it, I only blew $21, but surprisingly, I really like it!!

  • Olivia

    Oh man… where to begin…

    – 12 or so bottles of hand soap from BBW
    – Lemonade and Burgundy palettes (who could resist??)
    – ABH Subculture on sale (anyone know of any upcoming sales for ABH? Still wanting to haul Soft Glam!)
    – NARS Erdem collection- dark flowers eyeshadow palette, the watermelon cheek color, and the fuchsia lipstick
    – now thanks to MUSE… maybe the Cherry my Cheri and Covergirl TruNakeds 😉

    • Isabella Muse

OMGGGGG lol! I have resigned myself to NO MORE hand soap! you bad, bad, cheeky girl ;-D

      • Amy

I have found a justification for buying lots of BWW hand soaps – when they have a good sale on them, I buy a bunch and put a few at a time in the ladies room at work. So much better than the generic liquid soap from the dispenser. Everyone seems to appreciate it. Works for me since I get to try out a bunch of different fragrances. Oh – also a good way to use up leftover seasonal soaps. I love the holiday ones, but inevitably end up with half full bottles when I’m ready to move on. So I bring them to work too.

        • Isabella Muse

I swear I must wash my hands too much! I can go through a bottle of the foam in like 2 1/2 weeks!

          • OLIVIA

I have the same problem!!! And I justify it as one of life’s little luxuries, next to my Starbucks macchiato addiction. But if my wallet ever dries up, of course those are the first to go! But between our guests and 2 bathrooms, we go through them in the blink of an eye at home!

          • Isabella Muse

I do too!!!!! Agreed, they are a little luxury ;-D who wants regular hand soap when you can have any number of fun seasonal scents from BBW? ;D

  • Rachel Andrist

I just ordered two of the Clarins Water Lip Stains. I’m really excited to try them!

      • Rachel Andrist

So I’ve had the stains for about a week and I’m sad to report that they are not the HG of lip stains as I had hoped. They don’t wear particularly long, aren’t drying but aren’t keeping lips comfortable either. I’m going to take them back. It’s a shame the formula didn’t wow me because the colors were amazing!

  • Diana

Hand soaps from BBW, it’s just soap, but feels special at the sink :), Josie Maran 19 Oz body Butter in Vanilla Fig& Unscented and a Wayne Goss eyeliner brush (my Bobbi Brown gel pots just sitting there, gotta start using what I have!). I want Jo Malone Blackberry&Bay but holding out until I break down lol

  • Robin

    I like this topic!
Ordered a new foundation from Essence, an ELF facial brush, Clinique cleanser and I used my point to get a Define Me perfume set. It has good reviews and sounds different from fragrances I have.
I’ve been on a NARS blush kick and picked up Loves Me Not, Free Soul, and the Narcissist check palette for pale people. 🙂 I also picked up the Cali Contour palette and I was convinced this was going back. I love it and wear it daily!! Again I’m very fair with blue/red undertones and it looks naturally on my skintone. I think if you are darker than medium, it won’t work. It’s my favorite palette so far. I used the darker shades for eyeshadow and liner.

I’m eyeing Catrice nail polishes that they recently started carrying on their site. Look nice and not pricey. Also looking for Sally Hansen’s Crayola School’s out collection. Fun colors!

  • Loretta

Too broke to buy. Living thru other people telling about theirs!

  • Amy Allen

L’Oreal Infallible Gel Eyeliner Lacquer Liner 24H.
    Maybelline Dream Lumi Highlighting Concealer.
    Revlon Colorstay Creme Eye Shadow-Caramel

  • Mindy

Finally got some of stilas glitter and glow thanks to the sale at Ulta and your raves. Got perlina and enchantress and they did not disappoint! I think I’ll be wearing perlina all summer with a hot pink lip.

  • Brooke Jones

Well…we just made our first “real”…as in longer than two days…trip to Gotham. And Lord hammercy!

    1. Found the Kiko store…left with 8 lipsticks/glosses/balms.
    2. Kiehls products, Le Labo Santal 33, and Killian’s Intoxicated from Saks.
    3. 35 MM….I bought every Leaders mask, 4 different versions of Dollywink brown eyeliners, a sleeping pack, Heroine Make Mascara and remover, Dollywink Mascara, and assorted sunscreens.
    4. Facial cotton from Muji.
And before I left for the trip I hauled:
    1. Brushes from IT, Japonesque, Real Techniques, Eco Tools and Marc Jacobs. I have been on a serious hunt for a blush brush that works.
    2. Becca blushes
    3. Walgreens haul of Wet n Wild cushion foundation, Physician’s Formula foundation, Healthy Lip and Butter Brozers, and Soap And Glory Sexy Motherpuckef lip stuffs.
    4. Morphe brushes, Flower foundation, and Milani setting spray.

And I have to stop! I am out of room! Or maybe I just need a good summer purge to make room for more???

    • Isabella Muse

Yay! ;-D Did you have fun!? Santa 33 is totally worth it, such a beautiful, beautiful scented! Damnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn nice!!!!!!!!!!

      • Brooke Jones

Girl! So much fun! And the Santal 33 is kind of perfect! It isn’t my normal sweet scent but it is sooooooo good! The Killian fragrance is good, but I still prefer Straight to Heaven…have you tried it? It is drool-worthy! I wish I had emailed you before we went! A few years ago, you posted about a place that looked and sounded like perfume heaven. I was dying to go there and I couldn’t find the post and couldn’t remember the name or address. The picture you posted had perfume in large crystal dispensers and they also sold these beautiful feathery powder puffs. Do you know the place I am describing? I want to put that on my list for the next trip!!

Went to the dollar store here in this country and bought a crayon concealer packaged just like Pixi but in black barrel and silver twist up with a clear cap. Concealer works beautifully. It is an eastern european company. They seem to market to my skin tone. Also bought a retractable pencil multi use concealer from a local drugstore brand here. Under one Euro! Also works beautifully. It’s fun to share make up thoughts on your site. Thank-you!
