Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Pre-Tox Peel Off Mask ($10.99) is a new, exfoliating peel off mask that contains AHAs which act gently exfoliate dead skin from your face while leaving it smooth and softened. This is actually a pretty new sort of spin for Aveeno who tends to concentrate on creating facial moisturizers and but never quote venturing out further into the skincare world. I was surprised to see them doing not one but two versions of a peel off mask with their Spring 2019 Skincare Collection.
It probably shouldn’t surprise me too much because I think Too Faced Glow Job Radiance-Boosting Glitter Face Mask sort of gave a rebirth to peel off masks. Everyone is making peel off masks lately particularly glitter ones. Thankfully Aveeno didn’t include the glitter aspect but you can tell from the somewhat cute packaging they are trying to target a younger demographic with these masks.
All this being said, I was curious to try this! I am in no way a stranger to harsh take the skin right off your face peeling facial masks! I have suffered through the lines of Memebox I Dew Care Disco Kitten Mask and the legendary Seikisho Mask White both of which will remove skin, hair, and the gunk from your pores.
Trust me, Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Pre-Tox Peel Off Mask is child’s play in comparison!
Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Pre-Tox Peel Off Mask arrives in a 2.0 oz squeeze tube and contains AHAs in the form of glycolic and lactic acid as well as blueberry extract that apparent defends against environmental stressors.
This is a gel-like consistency that milky purple in color but it changes to a darker purple as it sets just like the one in the photo on the box. To use this mask you’ll apply a generous, even layer all over your face and let it set for 20 minutes. I actually sat with it for about 40 minutes worth of an Outlander episode because it felt wet at the edges which would make for a messy peel off. As it sets it tightens on skin ever so slightly. Once it dries down completely you can peel a tiny bit off at either side of your face and lift it off in one go. I typically let it rip when I take it over and try to remove it as quickly as a band-aid all in one go. Sometimes I’m successful, sometimes I have to remove left over parts. Either way, I find ripping it off quickly is the way to go for me however, if you’re sensitive I don’t recommend doing so. I didn’t experience pain when removing this and it felt gentle compared to other peel off masks but I read reviews stating it tore skin! I didn’t have any problems like that nor any breakouts as some people also experienced according to reviews. But I do have very resilient skin!
I actually loved this and I felt like it made my skin feel and look very smooth if not a little dry. It does have a very strong fresh floral fragrance that didn’t bother me.
Sadly it does contain a lot of denatured alcohol which likely renders the AHAs completely useless not to mention it breaks down collagen as well as dries out skin which is too bad as I did feel like this did a nice job smoothing and almost produced a firming effect on my skin!
Aveeno Absolutely Ageless Pre-Tox Peel Off Mask had great potential but alcohol is a major deal breaker in this formula! The good news is Aveeno does offer it in a mini size for $3 if you want to test the waters before splurging on the larger size!

This arrives in a 2.0 squeeze tube and will set you back $8-$11 depending where you purchase it. It’s a great mask and it really did smooth my skin and felt a hell of a lot more gentle compared to other peeling masks I’ve tried in the past but it does contain a huge amount of alcohol as well as fragrance which will prove a deal breaker for many people.
