Smashbox Crystalized Makeup Collection Brings More Crystal and Gemstone Magic To Spring 2019 Beauty Trends

The new Smashbox Crystalized Makeup Collection launched today for Spring 2019 in collaboration with the Hoodwitch and it follows right along with the trend we’ve seen from other collections that recently launched like the It Cosmetics Gemstone Brush Therapy Duo Collection and Revlon Crystal Aura Collection.

I’m not really a huge crystal or gemstone believer. Shrug. Sorry!? Smashbox collaborated with a crystal expert, Bri Luna (the Hoodwitch). I have no idea who she is. Again, I’m sorry. According to Smashbox they teamed up with Bri to celebrate beauty rituals inspired by the transformative quality of crystals. The collection is infused with crystals to enhance your magic (I may or may not be rolling my eyes).

I’m obviously the worst kind of person to talk about collections like this. I’m not knocking those who believe in the magic of crystals, etc…! I just don’t. Makeup should be fun but sometimes it feels like brands just over reach. In this case, it feels very much like Smashbox extended themselves too much. That being said the collection actually looks really nice. I’m just not a believer in auras, crystals, my horoscope telling me whether or not this month I’m going to strike it rich or not, and whether or not Mercury being in retrograde is going to screw with my day.

Crystals and auras aside here’s what the Smashbox Crystalized Makeup Collection looks like!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. Crystals, schmistals… They’re rocks. they may have some minimal electric/electronic properties, but that is it. I’m firmly beside you in the Crystals are Hooey camp, Muse!!!
That said, this collex has some of the most gorgeous packaging evar!!! I’m not a highlighter person, but I WANT that highliter!!! just for the case!! DANG that’s pretty! 😀

Since most everything seems to go on sale about 5 weeks after its release, I think I’ll hold off on buying anything full price and see if it goes on sale… 🙂 And the MU companies have no one to thank for THAT attitude but themselves!! If they wouldnt come out with a new collection every 35 minutes, they wouldn’t have to put last hour’s collex on sale so fast! 🙂

    Jeez – I’m a crankapillar today! :-}

    • Isabella Muse

lol! I feel the same. No offense to people to believe but I really don’t get it at all! The whole crystals, horoscopes, etc..! just not a big believer! This is basically the trend at the moment though! Pixi released new crystal oils now too ugh! lol! Yeah! I agree! I like the looks of all of it! Very nice packaging and the highlighter does looks nice! too true! i purchased a lot of the petal metal stuff and it all went on sale 🙁 lol! no worries I am too!

    • Jenn

Oh man yeah, I’m a jeweler and this stuff is very pretty but not good for you at all. For instance the ‘rhodonite’ shade is golden but irl most rhodonite is a very pepto pink with white streaks. And ltos of minerals are just awful for you. Cinnabar is the most gorgeous red… but its full of mercury. And even khol is historically stibnite which is a lovely mineral full of antimony. Like, dang, just enjoy the pretty sparklies because they are pretty and sparkly.

That being said anything even slightly duochrome or metallic is my bag, poison or not. Gimme.

  • Christina

I like looking at crystals. LOL! But I don’t really believe they can do much for the body. Like Kimkats said, they have electrical properties, but I doubt strong enough to affect our bodies.

I do like the packaging on the highlighter and the palette, though.

    • Isabella Muse

me too haha but not sure about healing or magic! I don’t know anyone that believes I just don’t. I’m a skeptic by nature!

  • Felis

I am 100% going to wait for these to get clearanced out (cause they’re gonna) and then pick up one of the liquid eyeshadows, because that packaging is charming to me. Otherwise none of this looks unique at all.

    • Isabella Muse

ITA! I think if it called to me more I’d probably pay the full price! But it isn’t quite getting me so worked up that I need it now!

  • Violet

ITA with y’all about horoscopes, magical properties, Wicca, etc, but I’m a half assed Bohemian and I like to wear jewelry, especially stacked bracelets, of natural crystals and stones. I consider them nature’s art. I also have them glittering in my windows and large specimens on display throughout my home. Can’t say there’s anything magical going on in my house, though, lol! That said, I am over the moon about the crystal trend! Smashbox is a brand I don’t give much love to, but everything is so pretty and calling my name! But, I will wait for a sale too. I want everything if they get good reviews!

    • Isabella Muse

that sounds lovely! As decor they are very pretty not sure about magic or healing! I’m a natural skeptic! This looks pretty enough but I’m def going to wait on a sale!

  • Colleenie

I hate the whole crystal craze (part of the whole wellness/anti-science movement!), but I do like this collection. I am very interested in seeing swatches of the highlighter (it looks almost purple/gray??) and reviews of the liquid eyeshadows.

    • Isabella Muse

me too! Just not into it. It does doesn’t it!? looks like it might reflect lilac!

  • Kelly

Y’all, I’m an actual practicing witch, and I like the collection for its pretty makeup shades and gimicky packaging – but that’s IT. I don’t yuck on someone’s yum for the belief in crystals, but when you’re talking about things like aura quartz, they’ve been heat treated and coated to look that way, so…

    • Isabella Muse

oh I’m all about believing what you want! I’m just not a big believer in crystals/horoscopes/magic/etc! I’m a natural skeptic. I was raised Catholic and I have a hard time believing in God never mind the healing power and magic of crystals 🙂

  • Agona

In general, collabs don’t appeal to me. I think it’s because they show case a personality and I feel like it’s very specific because you have to be either like “I want to be like this person” or “this person is already similar to me”. I prefer theme/concepts like floral, ocean, etc.

    • Agona

That being said, this collection has gorgeous packaging. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of Smashbox’s eyeshadow formula.

  • Kitten

I’m with everyone else…intrigued by a couple of the shades, but I’ll wait for them to go on clearance to try anything! I should have done that with the last collection!

  • Kimmyyy

While I don’t believe that crystals hold any sort of magical properties, I absolutely love the look of them! I don’t have many but enjoy collecting raw crystals and geodes, solely for the visual appeal. On that note, it’s a given that I REALLY love the packaging on the pressed highlighter, eye shadow palette, and liquid shadows! They look gorgeous. I’m honestly even drawn to those “crystalized shimmer drops”. However, like someone else mentioned, I’m going to wait for these to go on clearance and then maybe snatch a few things up. I don’t buy Smashbox often because nothing from their brand ever really appeals to me, but this collection interests me.

  • Mariele Storm

Very pretty packaging, but lump me in the crystals as pretty rocks and nothing more category. 😉 I don’t think I need any of this… but it sure is lovely to look at!

  • Powell

I totally saw you rolling your eyes about the crystals. Lol ☺

  • Powell

I’m lol at you again. Every 35 minutes. You are absolutely right.

  • Powell

Interesting. I just went to YT to see if any Influencers had videos up on any of this collection but there aren’t any up yet but there are videos up about Hoodwitch. I didn’t check any out because that just freaked me out.
