Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss Review & Swatches

3 stars out of 5

Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss ($7) is a new plumping lipgloss that launched in a variety of shades a few months ago. I purchased three of these when they launched but I’m just now getting around to reviewing them since the formula was one I wasn’t sure I loved or hated. I’m still technically not sure! It’s sort of a hit or miss love hate relationship I’m having with this formula.

Ok, so, first off and most importantly Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss is such a throw back to makeup days of old. That’s one reason I really love these. They just remind me of the 80s. I didn’t grow up in the 80s but I’m no stranger to thick lipglosses that came in squeeze tubes. It seems like a rite of passage that after the Bonne Bell obsession ended in childhood you’d enter into your teens by experimenting with plenty of super thick lipglosses with majorly shiny formulas.

Colourpop pretty much nails the formula when it comes to thick and super glossy glosses no doubt. This formula is crazy thick, sticky AF, and majorly shiny. Gotta love all that! I think a lot of people won’t love how thick these are. It’s that formula that you have nightmares your hair will get caught in or you’ll have stringy bits of it between your lips when you talk. Sorry, not to be gross but it’s true! Colourpop loads it up with a cool, crisp mint flavor and fragrance that’s quite tasty and might just irritate your lips into plumping up. I don’t really see anything else that might actually add volume to lips other than some mint irritation and of course, the really thick, thick texture of the gloss which indeed will give your lips a plumped up appearance. I didn’t notice any sting or burning from the mint.

Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss Swatches (All Talk, Beachwood, She’s Here)

So, we got shine, we got volume, how about color? I picked three gorgeous nude shades but they actually all look the same on my lips (aside from one shade called She’s Here that sort of gave me a zombie lip look). There isn’t a ton of color in these shades. That isn’t to say all the colors in the range are like this but the ones I selected were pretty sheer and disappointing in color pay off. None the less, they look pretty amazing on top of lipstick.

I think the bad part of the formula is how sticky and thick these are. The formula isn’t weightless and you pretty much can feel how heavy it is through the wear. Speaking of wear, they do wear a pretty long at around four hours which isn’t too bad for a lipgloss.

So yeah, it’s a love hate type of thing I have going on here. I love how they make my lips look super shiny and very full but the formula is really heavy and super thick which I thought made it difficult to spread and apply. But what is it they say about beauty? Beauty is pain!

Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss is available now.

Do you love or hate it?

Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss is a plumping lipgloss available in a wide assortment of shades that are housed in a squeeze tube with a slanted applicator for application. Each gloss is 0.335 oz in size and $7 each. This is a throwback lipgloss from days of old that has a very thick and super shiny formula. The shine factor is one of the biggest draws and nicest features in this formula in my opinion. I wasn’t too keen on the really, really thick formula which did make lips look full but was rather heavy on my lips. The formula wears for a solid four hours but the lack of pigment and thickness of the formula did disappoint me.

Polybutene, Phenylpropyldimethylsiloxysilicate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Synthetic Beeswax, Flavor, Menthone Glycerin Acetal, Phenoxyethanol, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Calcium Sodium Borosilicate, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Silica, Tocopherol, Saccharin, Tribehenin, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Tin Oxide, Sorb…

Pros

  • Anyone who loves super thick lipglosses.
  • Great pick for thinner lips that want more volume.

Cons

As long as they’re thinner than MAC lipglass (like maybe Lancôme juicy tubes texture which… Is probably not a coincidence with the name being what it is haha), I’d probably try it out for the price. I never understand why those lip glasses are still a thing because they’re just SO thick and sticky. Like rubber cement! Lol.

    • Isabella Muse

oh no about five times thicker than a MAC lipglass and about two times thicker than juicy tubes. VERY thick ;D LOL I totally get you about lipglass! I sort of made peace with it because all that stickiness works to let them wear super long but yup, I’ve always felt like they are so damn sticky and tacky!

Sigh… you’d think after all these years somebody could come up with a shiny formula that didn’t be sticky or wear off in half a minute. They made mattes that wear like iron lips and even require special remover formulas. Why can’t someone do that with a gloss? I love wearing glossy eyelids especially in the summertime, but everything glossy has that greasy vaseline-like quality that runs, smears, is sticky and doesn’t stay put where you want it.

    • Isabella Muse

haha I know ;-D I agree! I guess the stickiness helps it stay ;-D

I love thick and sticky! I feel like such formulas are longer lasting.
Can anyone recommend me some glosses as thick and sticky as Mac’s dazzleglasses?

  • Charlotte Grubbs

I may be in the minority, but I LOVE super thick, sticky glosses. This formula sounds similar to Butter London’s old Lippy Lip Gloss, which was my jam. I might have to pick a couple of these up.

Also I too LOVE thick and sticky!! They are the MOST hydrating AND longwearing always. I cannot stand thin and oily lip gloss, there is no point in wearing it. I also prefer scented/flavored too. I’ve always loved MAC Lipglass and Dazzleglass. I also loved Victoria’s Secret Beauty Rush glosses which weren’t sticky but thick and wore well and came is the most delicious flavors.

I ended up picking these up at Ulta and am really impressed. I don’t really buy any drugstore lip gloss since Bonne Bell went away but these are fantastic!! They’re also not annoyingly menthol-y like Buxom which I appreciate. I hope ColourPop will do another version of these but with flavors and no minty-ness. <3

Hello, may i ask if we need to use a makeup remover after applying this product?

    • Isabella Muse

Hello there! No, you can wipe it off with tissue! It’s a lipgloss so easy clean up!
