5 stars out of 5

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick ($15) is a new liquid lipstick formula that launched with the Tarte Sugar Rush Collection in four shades. I’m not a big fan of matte, long-wearing lipsticks as we all know since I tell you this daily and I’m starting to sound like a broken record.

But from time to time a formula will come out and make me change my mind. I have to admit that formula might be Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick!

It’s lightweight, non-drying, and fairly priced.

And the Tarte Sugar Rush Collection just keeps surprising me….! I really though I was outside the demographic for this collection but everything I’ve tried so far I’ve actually enjoyed!

I only tried a mini Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick as I picked it up thanks to their awesome 5 for $25 deal which allows you to select any five miniature Sugar Rush products for $25 bucks. I said it in a prior post and I’ll say it again all brands NEED to do this. It’s actually kind of fun just spending $25 and trying out a whole bunch of different products from a line. It lets me easily weed out what I won’t like and allows me to decide whether or not I need to spend $20+ dollars on a full-size. Props to Tarte for doing this.

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick is a pretty standard liquid lipstick formula with a soft, velvety whipped texture that sets to a matte finish. Apparently it contains sunflower and rosehip oils and does have a subtle vanilla scent and flavor. I think the industry is jammed packed with formulas exactly like it but Tarte’s version is very lightweight, has a smooth finish on my drier lips, and doesn’t set to a soul sucking dry finish! It’s a formula that has a very lightweight finish on lips there’s barely there which I love. It feels hydrating going on but I wouldn’t say that moisture lasts but it doesn’t dry up either and although transfer proof and quite long wearing at around six plus hours it still easily tissues off as well if you’d like to freshen up or reapply your lipstick!

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick Swatches (Shade: Sprinkle)

All in all, a rather great formula that I can easily see myself purchasing more of! The sweet $15 tag isn’t half bad either!

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick is available now.

Where to buy

Tarte Ulta

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick is a new lightweight, matte liquid lipstick available in four shades for $15 each which are 0.151 oz. This formula is a lightly whipped texture that has a velvet feel which sets to a lightweight matte finish that’s very comfortable and smooth on my drier lips. It wears for 6 plus hours without fading nor migrating but it still wipes away considerably easier than other long-wearing lipsticks should you wish to retouch or reapply! I really liked the consistency as it’s barely there and quite weightless!

Pros

  • Very lightweight, barely there feel.
  • Comfortable to wear without being drying.
  • Pigmented.
  • Long-wearing but easy to remove.
  • Affordable.

Cons

  • Lacks a big shade range.

Who

Tarte Sugar Coat Velvet Liquid Lipstick should be appealing to those who dislike matte, long-wearing lipsticks formulas this is a really lightweight formula that’s easy on drier lips!

I adore these and this color is my favorite. I actually top this with Colourpop Dress Code gloss and the combo is super pretty!

I’m not a matte fan either, but these wear much nicer than most (at least for me!)

right? I thought the formula was really lightweight! I also liked they wore long but I could wipe them away easily without removing the skin from my lips lol!

I bought the mini version and have been enjoying it. I’m hoping they bring out a set of minis sometime soon.

Generally not that excited by many Tarte launches, but this color looks beautiful and the thought of a promising liquid lipstick formula reviewed by someone who dislikes many liquid lipsticks is intriguing. Really like the looks of this! Thanks!

nor am I but lately Tarte has been not too damn bad! My pleasure dear!

I picked this color up on a whim not too long ago and I love it!! Leaves a nice little bit of stain behind if you reapply a few times. They definitely need to add more colors?
