4 stars out of 5

I picked up Summer Fridays R + R Mask ($52) about two months ago because for some reason or another the line is very appealing to me. I still haven’t quite figured out the mystery of what it is that intrigues me about this brand as I did review the Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask and it was fun to use, it smells great, but I didn’t feel it was doing anything super beneficial for my skin. This didn’t really swap me from indulging in the R + R Mask though!

Is it the fun name? Is it the chic tubes that look so fantastic on my bathroom vanity? I dunno but I have some odd pull to this brand!

Summer Fridays R + R Mask is a two-in-one mask that acts to exfoliate skin physically. I guess it chemically exfoliate as well because they make you sit around with it on your face for a few minutes. I started using this once a week about two months ago and I’m really quite liking it but it isn’t for the faint of heart as it is a really scratchy, harsher formula. I would NOT recommend this for anyone with sensitive skin, redness, rosacea, etc…! If you’re prone to drier skin you might just love it as much as I do!

It quite reminds me of Kate Somerville ExfoliKate from the texture to the strong cinnamon fragrance but the formulas are quite different. They do perform in the same way! Same thinner creamy paste-like texture, same fragrance, and same light tingle when applied. The tingle is a little stronger on Kate’s version though compared to Summer Fridays’!

The cream formula contains a blend of sugar and ground rose powder that forms a paste of sorts which can be applied to your dry face and gently massaged in for about a minute. After that you’ll sit around with it on your face for ten minutes and rinse with lukewarm water after. I don’t really see the point of sitting around with it on your face for ten minutes but ok!?

It contains a host of great hydrating oils such as argan, grape, safflower, and more as well as Vitamin C. The ingredients are actually quite good overall, and quite beneficial in providing a nice, hydrating feel after the mask has been removed. However, for some reason or another the blend of sugar and rose powder is quite harsh and the fragrance is very strong which will prove irritating for many users. Personally, neither bothered me since I like a harsher facial scrub. It really gives me a super deep exfoliation that leaves my skin super smooth.

My skin has been sooooo dry lately. I think it’s a combination of my SPF which contains alcohol as well as air conditioning and also, travel. Prior to applying a sheet mask I’ve been using this once a week and it really whisks away all the flaky skin and leaves it smooth and prepped for my facial mask. Not to mention my skin gets a nice glow after I use it.

All in all, Summer Fridays R + R Mask isn’t going to win any major awards with most skin types but if you’re try this might just do the trick at whisking away all that flakiness and leaving you with a nice, smooth complexion!

Summer Fridays R + R Mask is available now at Sephora.

Where to buy

Sephora

Summer Fridays R + R Mask is an exfoliating mask that contains a host of hydrating oils such as argan and grape. The creamy paste is meant to be applied to dry skin and gently massaged in and left on for ten minutes before rinsing. I didn’t see the benefits of waiting around with it on my face for ten minutes in all honesty but I did feel it gave my skin a very deep exfoliation but the grains are quite scratchy which means sensitive skin or those that suffer from rosacea should avoid it as it will prove very irritating. It reminded me a lot of Kate Somerville ExfoliKate in texture and scent (it smells like cinnamon). It did leave me with very smooth skin that wasn’t tight nor dry after use! I did feel once a week was plenty with this formula as it was quite strong.

Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Sucrose, Silica, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Argania Spinosa (Argan) Kernel Oil, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate (Vitamin C), Rosa Damascene (Bulgarian Rose) Flower Oil, Rosa Gallica (Rose) Flower Powder, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl (Vitamin E) Acetate, All Natural Fragrance, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin.

Pros

  • Super exfoliating! Left me with very smooth, flake-free skin!
  • Didn’t dry me out nor strip my skin.

Cons

  • Very harsh and scratchy.
  • Not at all recommended for sensitive users.

Umm…that’s not the R+R mask, you used the Overtime mask. The Overtime mask is not meant to be hydrating, so yeah that’s probably why you weren’t satisfied..
