Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick

Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick ($9.99) is a new shaping lip duo that consists of a matte lipstick and matching lipgloss shade housed in a tapered pencil for easy application and travel. I happen to always apply lipgloss on top of my favorite lipstick because I like a glossier lip look. This is one reason I love products like this. I happen to be a really big fan of Tarte’s The Lip Sculptor Lipstick & Lipgloss which is what drew me towards trying out Plumper, Please! Lipstick. I just love the idea of having a matching lipstick and lipgloss in one spot plus I like the way the two products look together. It’s also nice to keep the two products together and isolated as when you have two different products you’re using it often means when you combine the lipstick and gloss you might forget which shades you used to create the look. Also, I hate having my mucking up my favorite lipgloss by applying it on top of my lipstick. Even after you wipe off the sponge tip sometimes the lipstick shade contaminates the lipgloss. You know what I mean?

So, little duos like this are awesome as they are all matchy match and are meant to be used together without messing anything up plus they are swell for travel to have a lipstick and a lipgloss in one easy to carry pencil!

I ran across Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick at Walgreens and the display says “Exclusive” but it’s widely available at other locations as of now. I only got one shade as the display was sort picked over and I may just go back for a few others or order them online but I’m debating it at the moment. There are ten shades available and the average price is about $9.99 (some places $8.99). The lipgloss is 0.14 oz in size and the lipstick is 0.035 oz in size.

As you can see this is tapered barrel that holds both products together in one spot making it great for travel. The lipstick has a rounded tip which should have made for easy application however, the matte formula prevented that but more on that later. The lipgloss has a sponge applicator for easy application.

The two products combined create a great look however, used individually not so much. Out of the two products the lipgloss was the best product. It’s a thicker, mildly sticky lipgloss with full pigmentation that can be easily be worn alone for a glossy, colorful look. I got the shade Hot & Spicy and it’s a beautiful, intense red. The gloss shade was surprisingly pigmented with a ton of lacquer-like shine that thrilled me. Both the gloss and lipstick had a strong peppermint fragrance and flavor and did cause a tingle/sting when applied. That sting might cause lips to swell and produce the “plumping” effect but I honestly, didn’t notice my lips looking any plumper and the lipgloss isn’t thick enough to give the illusion of it. I honestly don’t mind this but if you were going in hoping for fuller lips it might disappoint.

Sadly, the lipstick side is a bit meh. It’s awesome once gloss is applied as the lipstick underneath does intensify the color and just really makes the whole look. However, the formula is rather dry and drags across lips uncomfortably not to mention it applies patchy. Once the lipgloss is applied all is forgiven and the completed looks fab. But it’s pretty sad they paired up such great lipgloss with such a mediocre lipstick formula!

If you don’t mind the crummy lipstick formula the Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick is something worthy of a checkout for a gorgeous lip look!

Where to buy

Ulta Amazon Target

Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick is a new lipstick and lipgloss duo that launched for Summer 2019. I was very, very impressed with the lipgloss as it’s pigmented and has a great lacquer shine however, the lipstick was a little disappointing as it was drier and applied a bit patchy. Even though the lipstick was a pain I did think the overall lip look it created was really pretty!

Pros

  • Great gloss formula that’s lightweight, with a lacquer finish, and tons of pigment!
  • Fabulous travel-friendly packaging!

Cons

  • Crummy lipstick that was dry and applied patchy.
  • Tingles, stings a bit which might be an issue for sensitive users.
  • Peppermint flavor and fragrance that might be an issue for sensitive users.

Who

Maybelline Plumper, Please! Lipstick isn’t perfect but those who like shiny, pigmented lip looks might just dig it!
