5 stars out of 5

Charlotte Tilbury Palette of Pops Luxury Eyeshadow Palette ($53) is a new, limited edition that contains four sparkling, sheer eyeshadow toppers inspired by the original and bestselling Pillow Talk Luxury Eyeshadow Palette.

The palette was created as a companion piece of sorts to work with the original palette which I loved the idea of as the original palette is lovely but subtle and I wasn’t averse to add a bit more “pop” the look that Pillow Talk creates. I was very, very surprised that the palette isn’t only a companion piece but also, a perfectly great eyeshadow palette all itself.

Let’s jumps ahead to my review and swatches.

Charlotte Tilbury Palette of Pops Luxury Eyeshadow Palette comes in a simple, small compact with a nicely sized mirror inside marked with Charlotte’s signature little star. Was a little disappointed initially that the palette was priced the same as the original palette and also the same size at 0.18 oz total weight. You see, I felt a little guilty purchasing a topper palette that would prove sheer for that amount of money. I just thought if it was a companion piece with sheerer said that it should been cheaper. After using it I realized the price was completely justified but we’ll get into that shortly.

Upon opening the palette I was delighted how perfectly Pillow Talk this shades were. I expected some variation in the shades due to the different finish but they are perfect nude-pink Pillow Talk shades. The shades have “reflective pearls” and a “glossy ester” all of which gives your eyes a vibrant, sparkly look. The formula is firm with a gel powder texture that is best applied with fingers. If you’re going to go into these with a brush prepared to be disappointed as that’s just not going to work out well. They were created and meant to be used with your fingers. I know, this is sort of gross but I promise application goes so much smoother and easier when you’re applying them with your fingers.

I had absolutely no problem applying these. They apply and blend like a dream. Although firm the touch they have a lightly creamy almost gel texture that was lightly emollient and spread easily on my eye. On my bare lid, they applied easily and wore well without creasing on my drier eyes and providing a very pretty, sparkly look without being too frosty nor overly metallic. There was no fall out at all during the application nor the wear. The biggest surprise of all was the pigment which is why I am justifying the luxury price (it is, after all, a luxury brand). I expected sheer and sparkly but not color but what I got was sparkle and plenty of color. The gorgeous brown called Pillow Talk Smoke is the most pigmented but the other two pinks aren’t slackers. The primer shade, a beige champagne, was a bit on the sheer side but aside from that one shade the others had excellent pigment. I was very pleasantly surprised about this because it meant I couldn’t easily do an eye look without bringing in the original Pillow Talk Eyeshadow Palette. Of course, if you want to do that the option is there and you can get more dept to your look by using both but believe me you’ll have trouble using this palette all its own. For those curious, the shades do apply very easily over powders and didn’t crease nor fade on my drier eyes.

Each shade is broken down easily for application. Pillow Talk Primer is a soft champagne beige meant to use as a primer all over the lid, next up is Pillow Talk Enhance with is a sparkly pink meant to be applied all over the lid, after that is Pillow Talk Smoke to be applied on the outer corner and v of the eye. And finally you’ll end the look by patting on a little Pillow Talk Pop a pretty metallic rose pink on the center of the eye. It’s really simple to create a look using all four shades but of course, you can wear them individually as well! Pillow Talk Smoke for example all over the eye creates a very pretty sparkly brown eye look!

Charlotte Tilbury Palette of Pops Luxury Eyeshadow Palette gets five stars. It’s delightful! I loved playing with this and I’m glad I purchased it. I’m sure I’ll get plenty of use out of it. If you’re a bit older, have finer lines, or drier eyes don’t be scared of it! It’s a gorgeous palette.

Where to buy

Sephora Charlotte Tilbury

Charlotte Tilbury Palette of Pops Luxury Eyeshadow Palette is a new sparkly companion palette introduced for the Holiday 2019 season to be used in conjunction with the original Pillow Talk Luxury Palette. The price of $53 and the total size of 0.18 oz is the same as the original palette. The palette contains four shades that can be used individually, together, or over powder eyeshadows. The description reads that they are sheer and meant to be used as toppers but I was pleasantly surprised how pigmented they were and how easily they worked without the need to bring in any other eyeshadows or palettes. The shades have a firm gel texture with a creamy, lightly emollient texture that applies and blends easily with fingers. You’ll be disappointed if you try using these with a brush as they prove impossible to pick up. They applied very easily with my fingers and I had zero fall out! The formula wore well on my dry eyes without creasing nor fading. Over powder you can get a bit more dept but all in all, the palette performs solidly all by itself!

Pros

  • Gorgeous, sparkly shades that aren’t overly frosty or metallic looking.
  • Easy to apply and blend.
  • More pigmented than one would expect.
  • Can be used alone or on top of powders easily!

Cons

  • Finger application a must.
