Don’t Buy That But Do Buy This During the Sephora

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

It’s a little too easy to get carried away during the Sephora Holiday Bonus Event! When you got 20% off in your pocket on a variety of luxury brands how in the world can you say no? I made a list of some items shouldn’t bother buying and other that you might want to consider as I’ve tested them out personally and do like them!

Take a look!

Tatcha The Silk Peony Melting Eye Cream
Don’t buy Tatcha’s new eye cream. Just don’t. Trust me! It’s tempting with 20% off but if you have drier eyes it’s going to do NOTHING for you. I purchased it when it launched and felt like I wasted money. Don’t bother!

It Cosmetics Confidence in a Gel Lotion
Don’t buy Confidence in a Cream! I hate it. It’s not moisturizing enough, it’s over hyped as hell, and it has a really strong scent. Do however, buy Confidence in a Gel Lotion! It’s a gel that quickly absorbs, smooths, softens, and hydrates skin very nicely!

Too Faced Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer
Don’t buy Too Faced’s Born This Way Concealer no matter what you’ve heard! I know most people say this is hydrating and creamy and pigmented. It is quite creamy but it sheers out to nothingness which is upsetting if you’re hoping to conceal pesky eye issues with this!

Too Faced Born This Way Concealer

Too Faced Born This Way Super Coverage Multi-Use Sculpting Concealer
Do buy Born This Way Super Coverage Concealer instead! It’s a little drier than other Born This Way products but the coverage is excellent and it multitasks as both a foundation and a concealer.

Milk Makeup Flex Concealer
Don’t buy Milk Makeup concealer anything especially Flex Concealer which promises pigmented coverage but it’s really sheer and drags under eyes during application and blending. Meh!

Milk Makeup Hydro Grip Primer
Do buy Milk Makeup’s awesome primer but full disclosure it contains alcohol! I wish they’d do away with the alcohol here but I’ll use it anyway! This formula is so beautiful! It’s a gel-like texture that absorbs easily and hydrates skin for makeup beautifully.

Peter Thomas Roth Skin to Die For Darkness-Reducing Under-Eye Treatment Primer
Don’t buy Peter Thomas’s Roth ridiculous new eye treatment primer. Apparently this is supposed to act to prep eyes for concealer as well as treats dark circles but it didn’t work for either job.

Yves Saint Laurent Water Stain Lip Stain
Don’t buy YSL’s Water Stain! The formula sounds tempting with the promise of hydrating long wear but it’s sheer and wears for two seconds before disappearing!

Bare Minerals Bare Pro Longwear Matte Lipstick
DO buy as many Bare Pro Lipsticks as your cart can handle! These creamy, gorgeous mattes wear long with excellent pigment and a very hydrating feel on lips! Better still do buy

Bare Minerals BarePro Longwear Lipstick Swatches (Nutmeg)

Tarte Baba Bomb Moisturizer
Loaded with great botanicals and antioxidants do try out Tarte’s Baba Bomb that smooths, softens, and plumps up skin!

The Inkey List Brighten-i Eye Cream
Don’t buy Inkey List’s new eye cream! The promise of brighter well hydrated eyes makes it tempting but in reality this formula does very little!

The Inkey List Q10 Serum
Do try the Inkey List’s Q10 Serum! It’s very hydrating, quickly absorbs, and will protect skin from free radicals!

Sephora Keep On Masking Face Mask Holder
Do spend a few bucks on Sephora’s Face Mask Holder! This handy little silcone mask goes over your sheet mask to hold it tightly in place so it doesn’t slip around while you’re doing other stuff!

Fenty Beauty Pro Filtr Instant Retouch Setting Powder
If you’re on the hunt for a good, silky finishing powder or one to lock in concealer do try out Fenty’s beautiful powder! Non-drying, great shade range (including a nice yellow for setting concealer), and it’s blends like a dream!

Fenty Beauty Banana Pro Filt’r Instant Retouch Setting Powder

Natasha Denona Bloom Blush & Glow Palette
Do take the plunge on Natasha’s stunning Bloom Blush Palette if you love peachy pink golden glow looks!

The Inkey List Oil and Water Double Cleanser
Don’t buy Inkey’s Oil and Water Double Cleanser! It feels awful oily and leaves behind a good deal of makeup.

Drunk Elephant T.L.C. Sukari Babyfacial™ 25% AHA + 2% BHA Mask
Do try out Drunk Elephant’s great exfoliating mask! I use this once a week and I have to say I love it. It’s a heck of a lot easier using this than my physical exfoliating treatments and it isn’t as drying! Not to mention it makes my skin smoother and brighter after every use!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I have the tarte baba bomb stuff on my list because of your review! I figure if my skin twin likes it, I’ll like it!! Plus I have always liked the container/dispenser that it’s in!!

gotta finalize my order and get it made!! 🙂 But I need to leave *something* out so I can use the discount that sephora always seems to send out in late November/early December… 😀

    • Isabella Muse

yay! ;-D haha I love I’m we’re twins! <3! I like the container too! I keep forgetting the Nov/Dec offer too!

  • Kish

Don’t buy Naturally Serious 3-in-1 Lip Serum, it’s thin and runny and doesn’t moisturize at all. For me, Tarte Blemish Bully Spot Treatment was also a waste as it didn’t do a thing for me.

I made a small order today, I got the ND mini gold palette since you liked it so much, a Commodity set of three mini perfumes and three mini candles, and the Sephora brand Hemp Oil to try. Plus, I just made my Ulta $125 rewards order 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

I never tried that lip serum but got that on my do not buy list! A lot of Tarte skincare is on my don’t list lol! ;-D YAY! nice haul ;-D I hope you like the commodity! It’s fav brand of mine! w00t! nice rewards at Ulta ;D

  • kjh

Ooooh, noooo! Fell for the PTR, before waiting for your review. not the product the consumer reviewers tout, f’sure. And it doesn’t play well with my HGs, to boot. And I forgot the sheet mask cover. But, as Kimkats noted, there’s another 20 around the corner. The Algenist Reveal eye serum brightener needs a go-back, all dried up. And I’ve become so store-averse. Another effect of the Amazon syndrome.

  • Diana

I have had that Tacha eye cream in sight so thank you!! I agree with the It cream too. For those of us that need serious hydration, you never steer us wrong. I did get Bobbi Brown Extra Hydrating eye cream and Charlotte Tilburys Magic eye cream so we will see. what that combo does For my panda eyes lol

    • Isabella Muse

If you have dry eyes, don’t. It’s really not that hydrating at all 🙁 Let me know what you think of CT’s formula! I love it! It’s very rich!

      • Diana

Will do! I am another skin twin you have for sure..have a great weekend Isabella!

        • Isabella Muse

😀 I love I have all these skin twins hanging around ;-D hehe! You too my dear!

      • F1WILD

I am a Skin Twin, but just can’t afford the CT, even what the Bay offers. Damn cancer is a real bitch when it comes to finances. Could you recommend anything else or should I just save my pennies?
Cheers for all you do for us.

        • Isabella Muse

Wow, I’m sorry! Stay Strong!!!!!! you’re in my thoughts <3! Are you looking for an eye cream or a nightly moisturizer? aw thanks <3! Big thanks to you for reading!

          • F1WILD

Cheers, I’m tenacious and doing well.
I’m just looking for an eye cream. No matter what I try it seems my under eyes are always dry…..didn’t mean to be a poet. Haha

        • Diana

Im so sorry you are going through this! Sending you healing thoughts! I know, it is so expensive… I got mine on Beautylish and as Isabella says took the “beauty mortgage”. Maybe Argan oil? I use that too, i got the mini size and mix it in with my creams or use alone.

          • Isabella Muse

😀 hope the beauty mortgage Diana threw in there made you smile and laugh as much as it did for me 😀

        • Elle

Hi there, I am going thru the same type of health issues as you and I found that using Cerave eye cream was the most effective product for the dryness around my eyes. My doctor thought that I should use that eye cream, too. You can hardly beat the price. Good luck to you and I hope that you have a speedy recovery.

  • Olivia

This is amazing, thank you! Totally agreed on the Tatcha eye cream, I also splurged and bought the tinted eye cream from Tatcha and am seriously underwhelmed at how little hydration it provides. May try out the Tarte Bomba since you’re giving it good vibes!

    • Isabella Muse

my pleasure <3! I got the tinted eye cream too and it was a waste! didn't do anything! The eye cream isn't worth it either! Skip! I'm like the Tarte! Good hydration for the cold weather ahead ;D

  • genevieve

Thank you so much for your Do/Don’t list as it makes it so much easier for consumers to know which is the real deal and which is a waste of money.
Coming from the other side of the world, Sephora, currently on their website here, has no stated plans to introduce a Holiday discount event….sad to say.
I find most of the skincare products at Sephora to be hideously expensive, especially considering the way I slather it on.
I can recommend A’kin’s Firming Night cream (if Sephora sell it over there) and Skinn Physics Intensive Day cream.
