Here’s What I Did This 4 of July and Here’s The Sales I Hit Up

Good Morning!

How was your weekend? I hope you had a lovely one! It was nice that the 4th fell on the weekend but kind of crappy that we’re all still quarantining here (friends, family, and my BF who got back from CA last week)! But it’s ok! I made a list of things I wanted to do by myself over the weekend and I had fun even if it wasn’t with a big BBQ, friends, and family. I was a little uncomfortable with the sheer amount of people walking around upstate this weekend without masks. At one point I saw a bunch of people crammed into an outdoor tent at a local pub with a live band. I have to admit I was that Karen thinking, “Whoa guys! Maybe that’s not a good idea!” I was jealous of their good time but I wasn’t jealous of the potential they had to spread the virus.

So, instead of being out and about I stayed in. I went in the pool, if you watched my Insta-stories I went all DIY and created tie-dye sneakers, I did a little self care with some Flora & Curl hair care, I sanded down an old vanity I purchased at an antique store last year and I repainted it white (I plan on using it in one of the guest bedrooms), I put up new lemon curtains in my kitchen (because it’s Summer and my obsession with lemons is full on), I made my own Pinkberry, I switched out all the cherry blossom seat cushions on the porch furniture with lemon ones (told you I was obsessed with lemons), I power washed the entire driveway, I mowed the lawn, weeded, and worked in the garden a bit. I also planted two trees I purchased at my favorite garden center in Hudson, the Secret Gardener. I really, really wanted to go antiquing but none of my favorite antique stores are open yet. If you’ve ever been to the Hudson Valley area there’s a lot of cute little places to walk around and enjoy the scenery. One of my favorites is Warren Street in Hudson. Maybe you heard me talk about it before especially when I did my little ode to 2Note (who are now sadly closed forever but still filling orders online). I did manage to walk around Warren Street this weekend. They actually pulled a New Orleans on us all by shutting the street down and letting little traffic through which allows a lot of outdoor dining to spill into the streets. I walked around window shopping at some of my favorite Antique Stores which are still closed. I also managed to snag some yummies at Talbott & Arding which I took home and ate on the grass in front of my house on a picnic blanket. Sometimes you gotta have a a quiet picnic by yourself.

I also went to Home Goods all by myself! Yay me! But man, Home Goods had nothing on the shelves. It was really bare. I went to Marshall’s as well but again, nothing available! It’s ok though! I have plenty of stuff! I don’t need more ;-D I did go to Target as well and it was luxurious! It was just so quiet and no one was there! I skipped down the aisles in glee.

Finally, last night I got some work prepared for today as I wanted to be on top of everything before my work day started. I did decide to stay up here and I’ll return to the city tomorrow for work. But right now, I’m working from home and less stressed since I did a little preparation for my day yesterday!

I also did a little retail therapy online! Did you? The sales were good but I wouldn’t say they were great. Feels like more stuff was on sale last year. I took advantage of those Pat Mcgrath singles for $12 as I own some but not all of ’em and a few shades caught my eye that I didn’t have. I also, finally caved on the Etude House Tsum Tsum stuff! That Jelly Blur was tempting!

What did you do this weekend?

Did you hit up any good sales?

Do share!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. You were a busy person! We had a quiet 4th, except my next door neighbor had a party which had fireworks in the street once it got dark. I worried about our roof since they were so close by. Yesterday I found a cardboard cylinder by our bird feeders. I hope there are none on our roof!

I visited online Sephora & ordered my birthday present “ mini Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream & Coco Cabana cream set, a regular sized Sol de Janeiro Bum Bum cream & a Bite Beauty Agave Lip Balm. I use the lip balm at night before sleep. No mall stores are open by us yet in downstate N.Y. unless you have an entrance only from the exterior.

Everyone is still masked up here. We ate hot dogs with a new slaw I was trying out “ cabbage, fennel, apple & red onion with an apple cider vinaigrette dressing. It was good & a change from the mayo based ones. And I boiled some fresh corn & did a cilantro herb butter on them.

If anything, this stay at home has sharpened my cooking skills even more.

I def made a large list of things to do ;-D It was kind of fun to make time for projects I wanted to do! EEP! I have to admit I’m a killjoy! I hate fireworks. It’s ok for the one night but I tend to hear them like a month before and a month after LOL! It’s annoying! Oh my god that would scare me! People are so careless! SWEET! Nice haul! Love me some Sol De Janeiro! Happy Birthday 🙂 Where downstate are you? Not much open for us either downstate. Salons haven’t opened around our area! That sounds something I’d like because I don’t like mayo! I did some elote last week on the grill with the TJ seasoning and it actually came out nicely. I mixed it with the butter, grilled the corn, and slathered it on! Yum! I am too! I don’t cook tbh but I’ve been doing a lot more since being home!

I’ve lived in SE FL for many years now (28yrs) but I grew up in Rockland County and lived in Orange County for a number of years. Orange and Ulster counties were my favorite haunts, so many great little towns! I lived near Sugar Loaf, but I also loved Washingtonville, Pine Bush, Walden, Montgomery. And of course Woodstock and New Paltz in Ulster! Nyack is nice in Rockland.

    • Isabella Muse

Nyack is lovely! So is Woodstock, we aren’t far from it as well as the Catskills, Hudson, Tivoli, and other little smaller town in upstate NY! Kingston is quite nice but more commercial!

  • Cindy

Glad you had a nice 4th! Seeing people do stupid things that risk their own and other’s lives isn’t “Karen thinking,” it’s common sense! It disgusts me how selfish, ignorant and arrogant people are. I wish they would enforce the masking and social distancing rules better. If people don’t get it by now or refuse to comply they should face some serious fines or some other kind of punishment. We shouldn’t have to go through this hell again because of stupid people who think it’s nothing.

    • Isabella Muse

I’m glad to hear you think so sometimes I think I’m alone here thinking people need to be more careful! I agree. I think there should be some sort of ticket/fine issued if you’re gathering in a large group or not wearing a mask! It might urge people to actually comply!

      • Cindy

Oh believe me you aren’t alone! I’m glad NY is doing well in terms of infection rate and containing the virus but people need to realize that it’s not over! It’s raging across the country and the state isn’t immune to going back to where we were before. I don’t understand why the non-complying people don’t get this. Anywho, I had a quiet fourth except for the 1970’s explosion of fireworks all night. It was crazy! Usually I go with the fam to a restaurant but we’re not ready for indoor dining yet and it’s too hot to eat outside. Delivery is fine lol.

        • Isabella Muse

AGREED! Everyone is walking around like oh we had it we won’t get it again. Uhhh guys second wave remember? I’m not ready for indoor dining at all! Even outdoor dining for me was a little scary. It was a good experience overall, but I admit I was still a tiny bit nervous. Too bad we didn’t have a 1980’s 4th of July with Billy ;-D

          • Cindy

Lol that would be awesome! I won’t do outdoor dining either. I’m immunocompromised and I hate that my health and life has to depend on the behavior of others. They may be 6ft away but I don’t know their daily routines and how vigilant they are. Call me paranoid but I don’t care. I’m not dying for someone else’s stupidity.

          • Isabella Muse

lol right? 😀 OMG Kissing Booth 2! So serious about a Facetime sesh! ;-D I feel the same way. I’ve never in my life had such a silly fear of eating out or doing normal, mundane stuff like I do now. How’s your dad btw? He still giving you issues about being out? Mine is a PITA. I swear I might need to have my mom handcuff him to the couch or something.

          • Cindy

HAHA chained to the couch! YES FaceTime sesh! That movie will be epic lol. Everything is ok now, my Mom took control of the situation lol.

          • Isabella Muse

LOL omg yes! I didn’t notice! When is it out!?!??!??!? ;-D It’s a date! Oh that’s good! Sometimes dad’s need a kick in the butt to get them to sit still lol!

          • Isabella Muse

w00t! date night! me, you, facetime, snacks!

  • Christina

I did absolutely nothing except the usual chores of laundry and cleaning around the house. No, wait, I sat in my room and binge watched some C-dramas. LOL! That’s a first for me; I usually only watch an episode or two a day if I have time.

I love fireworks, but I don’t like fireworks from people’s homes. It wreaked havoc on our fields this year! I understand people are bummed out about no fireworks show this year, but think of the dangers of doing it yourself. We’ve been battling fires since Friday, and some of them are pretty big!

I didn’t buy anything this year because I’m waiting to see what the Anniversary sale will bring.

    • Isabella Muse

Hey that’s a lot! ;-D haha you and the dramas girl! I’m coming over one day soon with snacks and we’ll sit in bed all day and watch dramas together ;-D fireworks are lovely in a controlled environment but when people are randomly popping them off it’s annoying AF and feels dangerous! I hope the fires don’t turn into anything major! I’m waiting on Anni sale but I’ll break my promise by that time lol!

  • CatG

It was really nice reading through all you did! I can’t believe how productive you were! I haven’t had a day like that in so long, partly because of lockdown and partly due to ongoing depression.

I liked the sales this year but I’m not sure what I remember last year. The only July 4th makeup sale I did was for some Glam Vice retro liners though! I also bought some nail polish stamping plates on sale though. I look forward to them coming 🙂

    • Isabella Muse

Aw I’m sorry you’re depressed. Anyone would be during this insanity. I hope you feel more like yourself soon! I find making lists helps a lot. If you make a list you feel pressed to complete it 🙂 Beauty confession: I use to be obsessed with stamping plates ;D

  • MDW

Muse has good mental health. So you are not one of those women who we see lose it on those you tube videos.

Like Cindy, I am also puzzled about those not taking simple precautions. And I have social phobia, so the mask is like a psychological protective shield for me along with the sunglasses and scarves.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL thanks ;-D I did have good mental house until covid now I’m all paranoid about getting sick haha 🙂 <3! I don't get people with the "It's my freedom not to wear a mask" Is it also your freedom to get my elder parents sick!? People are so damn selfish! All about them, not about anyone else!
