Lunch Time Poll Says Maybe CBD Is Making a Comeback

Today’s Lunch Time Poll is sponsored and inspired by Andrew. Our fine New York governor has legalized cannabis and I do believe it’s somehow made the world of CBD beauty boom again (or maybe it’s booming because Summer’s here! For some reason CBD beauty gets a mighty push and starts to trend in the warmer weather!). Cheers Andrew! I don’t smoke but the rest of the state of New York is very excited about this news.

No but seriously, anyone notice that little trickle of new CBD items popping up here and there. From what I’m seeing drugstore beauty is starting to embrace the use of CBD in some of their latest launches. Flower Beauty just launched their Summer 2021 Collection which is all infused with CBD. Considering the trend has had a run with mid and high-end brands it’s just about time that the drugstore world caught on.

I actually lean towards the gimmick side of things when it comes to CBD. I question how much CBD is used and if it’ll have any skin benefits at all. The hype around cannabidiol is the fact that it’s a great antioxidant and has many anti-inflammatory benefits. But most important it’s an excellent way to treat free radical damage. Those with sensitive skin will experience the most benefits from it.

One thing to note is that if it is formulated into your favorite serum or moisturizer it can be absorbed easily into the skin. However, I think my skepticism doesn’t stem from the actually benefit of using it in skincare but more when it’s used in makeup. For example, I don’t see the point of it making an appearance in concealer, mascara, or lipgloss. Believe me there’s been many times where I stared blankly at Milk Makeup’s kush and hemp products and raised a mental brow.

I’m curious to see who else starts pushing CBD beauty on us this year!

What are your thoughts on CBD?

Will you embrace it trending again?

Or is it an old and tired already?

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. Until I see a peer-reviewed study of effectiveness, this is a gimmick and one I studiously avoid as i can’t risk anything that might cause me to fail a urinalysis for work. It would be a Eliane eats poppyseed bagel-like episode from Seinfeld.

oh my gosh lol! I dunno if it would show up in your urine or blood for that matter since the amount is likely very tiny but that would be funny if it did ;-D

My 1st exposure to CBD was at a vape shop a couple of yrs ago. I accompanied a friend who needed a fix & was complaining about my aching knees to her. The store clerk overheard me & applied CBD oil from a roller onto my knees. I am not susceptible to placebo affects & was leery, but it did ease most of my pain. I brought some home to hubby & he found that it eased his knee pain too. When Lord Jones appeared on Sephora, I tried it out on my rosacea when it flared up and the redness & inflammation was soothed. Then I learned LJ can be used sublingually and/or topically on the temples for anxiety & stress. Def helped that too, so I am a CBD fan, although I do think it’s prob only hype for makeup.
CBD isolates will not show up as THC in tests, cos there’s absolutely no THC in it, but full spectrum has a trace amt, so there’s an extremely rare chance it could show up in drug testing. My husband is a commercial pilot, so he’s afraid to take chances & uses the isolates. I like full spectrum, cause it seems a bit more powerful for relaxation.

I don’t doubt CBD has great benefits like the ones you experienced Violet but in makeup I’m a little more skeptical what it can actually do! I’ve always wanted to purchase something for my mom in the CBD healing realm as she has bad knees (she had a knee replacement a few years ago but her other knee is giving her issues now) but I can’t convince her to try it! I’m going to show her your comment 😀

Nope. Totally agree with Swoozy. My work already sent out emails warning us not to use these items due to random tests that we may have to take.

I think CBD in makeup is a complete gimmick, however I do know some folks, especially with arthritis who swear by CBD oils and creams to help with their pain. IMO CBD in makeup is old and tired, but think you’re right, it’ll capture a second wave of folks post-pandemic.

in the use of oils and creams for pain I agree, it likely works but in makeup naaa what’s the point? I think brands think it makes them appear cool or edgy by adding in CBD. Indeed! There was a slowing of the trend the past year but it’ll pick up again soon!

Lol – I think it’s been more of a flood than a trickle!! And I agree its’ nearly pure hype. It’s just the ingredient du jour – in a few months time, it’ll be passe….. Tho I have to say, I’ve used a few things with cannabis oil in them , and it seems quite moisturizing.
But I don’t smoke- I hate the smell – I have 60 acres and lotsa ditchweed, which responds nicely to a dose of herbicide. The stuff’s just a damn weed to me, tho I leave it in less visible areas, as the doves like to feed on the seeds. 🙂

Not so much though the past year. It was kind of slowing down for a while there now it seems to be regaining steam. Agreed, it is. It’s something that brands use to garner attention as it makes them seem edgy. HA maybe you need to harvest and sell it or something!

I’m very skeptical of ingredients that suddenly go from being illegal to popping up everywhere like mushrooms after the rain. It feels like cosmetic companies are trying to capitalise on an ingredient du-jour. I’ll wait until enough reliable, scientific data is available about CBD oil instead of being a guinea pig in another social experiment called “CBD oil in cosmetics.” No, I’m not worried about failing a drug test at work. I just don’t know how it’ll affect my body in the long run.
