Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick ($8.99) is a new lightweight, color rich lipstick available in ten shades that launched for Spring 2021 as a permanent part of the Maybelline lipstick collection.

I’m not a big fan of matte lipsticks I am however, a huge supporter, cheerleader, and user of Bare Minerals BarePro Longwear Lipstick. It’s one of my favorite slim line matte lipsticks! It’s creamy, it’s lightweight, it’s pigmented, and it looks incredible on! Very smooth, flawless, and just perfect even on my dry lips!

When Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick I was hopeful that it would be a cheaper dupe of Bare Minerals BarePro Longwear Lipstick!

Sadly, it’s not!

Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick arrives in a slim ombre tube. It’s very stylish, slick looking, and it stores and travels easily due to the slim case and small size. It’s 0.06 oz in size and around $7-$9 depending where you purchase it.

I’d recommend taking my review with a grain of salt because from what I’ve seen and read everyone but me loves this formula. I like the Bare Minerals formula because it feels like I have nothing on not to mention it’s soft and creamy. This formula isn’t as lovely for me nor as lightweight!

The formula is soft but it drags every so lightly during application. It is quite pigmented will full color pay off even with the lighter shade I selected called More Buff. Once on my lips I started to immediately notice that the color was creeping into my natural lip lines making the finish less than smooth. I also felt a very light tackiness to the color and sadly, some dryness as well. During the wear it does like to migrate around my lips. It sort of breaks up and moves to my upper lip line and give my lips a dry, wrinkly appearance. Hey, listen, I do have fine lines under my eyes but not on my face and not on my lips but this stuff made me look like my grandmother wearing lipstick. Not a good look! It’s not crazy heavy but this is a formula that does make itself known on lips. It made my lips feel dry. As for wear time you start experiencing issues within minutes of application so, really, you just wanna wipe it off when it starts creeping into your natural lip lines and migrating around within the first twenty or so minutes of wear. It does have a light vanilla flavor that was a bit bitter tasting.

The shade I got was gorgeous! It looks amazing paired with a little clear gloss which means it’s not a complete waste. The color is More Buff and it’s a rosy nude neutral.

I’m actually sort of surprised Maybelline bothered with another matte lipstick launch as it did seem we were getting a bit of a break from matte lipsticks!

Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick was a no go for me. Overall, this isn’t pleasant to wear! The migration issues and the dryness are key reasons to avoid it in my opinion especially if you’re not a lover of matte lipstick!

Where to buy

Ulta Walmart

Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick is a new lightweight matte lipstick available in ten shades that’s around $7-$9 for 0.06 oz of lipstick. This comes in a lightweight, slim line barrel that stores and travels easily. I wasn’t personally a fan of the formula! It feels dry and a bit tacky upon application and sadly, almost immediately sinks into my natural lip lines making my lips look old and wrinkly. The wear time is debatable since it tends to migrate around and looks less than smooth on my lips. It has a vanilla flavor that was slightly bitter.

Pros

  • Lovely packaging.
  • Great shade line up.

Cons

  • Feels dry.
  • Migrates and feathers.
  • Ages lips due to the color creeping into natural lip lines.

Who

Maybelline Color Sensational Ultimatte Slim Lipstick might be a good formula to haul if you want to pair it with a little clear, light lipgloss.

This is sad because I love Maybelline’s Superstay Ink Crayon lipsticks. I guess I’ll just stick with those. You’re right when you say why bother with another matte lipstick line. Thanks for taking one for the team Muse, and saving us some bills.

aw my pleasure ;-D I like the Crayons as well! Those aren’t half bad but how many mattes do we need?

I don’t like it either. I don’t know why every You Tuber is raving about it. It’s very drying on the lips and drags a lot during application. I also don’t like Superstay Ink Crayons. They feel moisturizing at first but after some time it feels like they have sucked every moisture out of the lips.

glad I’m not alone! I thought these would be much, much creamier after seeing/reading reviews : (
