Rohto Mentholatum released a new Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++ this Spring in Japan and it’s an excellent pick for anyone with drier skin. I’m a big fan of the original Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ but the filters aren’t as great as the ones you’ll find in this new UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++!

Ok, so, don’t kill me but I did say this was ideal for drier skin….! Keep in mind it does contain alcohol which may or may not play nicely with your skin. I’m having no issues with it at all! No tightness, no dryness after use, all I get is smooth, lightly hydrated skin when this sets. Even in air conditioner the alcohol doesn’t seem to play havoc with my drier skin. However, if you’re avoiding alcohol you might need to look elsewhere for your sun protection as this contains plenty of it.

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++ arrives in a squeeze tube that’s 2.8 oz in size and $16 on the secondary market (in Japan it’ll run you about 1,000 yen not on sale which is roughly around $9 and a bit of change).

It’s formulated for both body and face and they consider it sweat proof in higher temperatures. I am the mentality it’s a good lightweight sunscreen but I have my doubts about using it in stronger sun situations like say at a theme park or an outdoor concert. It’s also, not something I’d use on my body nor do I think it’s completely sweat-proof. This is however, a good daily SPF that uses Octinoxate to filter UV”B rays, tinosorb s for UVA protection, Bisoctrizole for protection against both UVB as well as UVA rays and diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate that acts to absorb UV.

The best part of the formula is the essence-like texture. It’s a runnier gel-like consistency that absorbs easily into skin leaving behind a slightly dewy finish that takes a few seconds to fully absorbs before setting to a lightly hydrated, smooth surface that isn’t greasy nor sticky. It contains no fragrance and doesn’t have an odd sunscreen scent. It feels quite moisturizing to me but not so much so that my skin feels slick or greasy after using it. They do promote it as being “super” waterproof but as I said above I have some doubts about that. It removes easily with makeup remover at the end of the day. It plays quite nicely with my makeup and sets a very nice canvas for application.

For lighter coverage days and days you aren’t out and about in the beating sun this is a perfect SPF formula. It’s very absorbs easily, wears comfortably, and feels just as great the original Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Gel SPF 50+ PA++++ but with a far thinner consistency.

All in all, a great pick for anyone that dislikes wearing heavy sunscreen!

YesStyle

Skin Aqua UV Super Moisture Essence Gold SPF 50+ PA++++ is a new, lightweight, fragrance-free, moisturizing essence suncreen created for drier skin. This formula has a thin, watery consistency that absorbs very easily into skin. Although it contains alcohol I didn’t feel it left my skin dry or tight after use. It was actually quite moisturizing and initially a bit dewy but set to a smooth, lightly hydrated finish that wore well under makeup! It contains a host of great filters such as Octinoxate to filter UV”B rays, tinosorb s for UVA protection, Bisoctrizole for protection against both UVB as well as UVA rays and diethylamino hydroxybenzoyl hexyl benzoate that acts to absorb UV. I personally would use this as a daily sunscreen if I’m not spending long periods of time in the sun however, you may require something stronger if you’re doing activities in the sun for longer periods of time.

Does it feel texturally like Allie or any of the other regular ones, like canmake or biore (last year’s formula, not this year’s). Trying to gauge the level of hydrating. Haha! I just realized that my canmake is actually more hydrating than biore’s skin aqua after using it straight for two weeks and is less tacky than Allie’s, not that Allie’s is tacky, but you know what I mean. I feel like I’m going to have 7 bottles of sunscreen opened at the same time because of you. Haha!

No, not at all imho! It’s very thin and runny! I think Allie is much thicker as is Biore! Canmake’s is still thin but creamier! Canmake’s formula is ideal imho! It’s sets quickly! No dewiness and it has a very smooth finish! This is nice but it takes a few minutes before the dewiness disappears which means you’ll need a few minutes before makeup application. Haha that isn’t a bad thing right?

I actually really love that dewiness that Canmake imparts. It’s shiny and smooth, which is a pretty rare combo. Normally, shiny makes pores look bigger, but not with Canmake. I’m going to buy the Skin Aqua, too! Try all the sunscreens!

I didn’t know they made an Essence version, but I love the Skin Aqua Super Moisture Gel Gold!

Have you considered doing a sunscreen roundup post for summer? I used to use the biore, but I don’t care for the formula change.
