A Love List To Finding the Strength To Unfollow People That Don’t Support You, Good Eats, and Beauty Loves

Wakey wakey my friends. It’s FriYAY! Are you ready for this? I am. As I said in my prior post, I’m so very tired of staying home all the time. I see so many people traveling and I’m NOT quite ready for that yet. We went to Rhode Island recently but we drove. Honestly, I dunno when I’m going to hop a plane but we’re planning Disney for my Birthday in the Fall (We go every year and I’m so so sad that we didn’t get the chance last year!), Paris, and possibly New Orleans as well.

I just wanna to do it all when I feel the safest though and right now with cases rising I’m not feeling so safe again!

I sure hope you’re having a great Summer but also, that you’re being safe. Take care of yourself, your family, and of course, others around you! I hope mentally you’re at your very best! And you’re keeping your mind and heart free from stress. I hope physically you’re drinking enough water and being active if possible.

Oddly this week I had some weird epiphany (Well, maybe not weird! It started with a friend being hurt over something and it rolled into a bigger thing across many different platforms I use!) to start unfollowing people across social platforms that didn’t support me. I spend so much time lifting people up, liking their content, commenting on their content, and they don’t return that at all. It’s sort of sad. Brands are particularly guilty of sucking all the likes and comments from a person but absolutely doing nothing in return. But also, people, creators, influencers, gurus, etc…, in general do this too and it sucks. This week I was like, ya know what, I think I really need to look at this situation. Am I bugging these people by following them? Maybe my comments are annoying? Would they miss me if I was gone? I finally concluded they probably wouldn’t even notice the lack of likes or comments from me at all and I couldn’t miss theirs since they never bothered liking my content anyway. So, yeah, mission “unfollow people that don’t support me as a person and a creator” was on like donkey kong. I think it sort of gives me more time to concentrate on people that do support me and enjoy what I do and I can have more time to enjoy their content and interact with them as they do me. I’ll readily admit it was harder with some people than it was with others. Because some people you start have this weird fuzzy line where you think of them as friends and in reality they are simply not that at all.

Am I making sense? Let me know ;-D

So yeah, my boyfriend is back in CA working and he’s been back every other weekend but obviously during the week it’s just me and sadly, my cook all the things mission has gone out the door. I was really enjoying those pandemic moments with him where I’d cook dinner every night. The panoramic made me into celebrity super chef. I was taking master classes online, I was reading food blogs, I was texting my best friend “How do you cook a turkey?” because Thanksgiving was scary (I never cooked one before!). I mean, I burn boiling water! I learned so much about cooking during lock down and I really had a great time with it. But when he left cooking for one person became less fun. Now I normally do a quinoa salad with grilled chicken most nights because it’s easy to make and I love it (I get that cheat meal in though! Chickie Nuggie Happy Meals are bomb dot com!) Sometimes I do milk and cereal in true frat boy living style. Muesli with cold milk, strawberries, and bananas just hits different after a long work day. But I recently discovered the Food Dolls and now I’m back to cooking again. I tried three different pasta bakes recently and ugh….so good! It’s just hard making it for one person though! I’m in love with these two ladies (they are sisters actually!). Their recipes are simple yet very tasty and easy to make! I made the Baked Feta Salmon on Monday and swoon! So good!

On to the beauty…or the skincare in this case!

This week I’m in love with….

Drum roll please!

Fleur & Bee Eyes Eyes Baby ($22) is slowly becoming my go to eye cream in the AM. I got a PR email about this recently and they offered me a sample but I don’t really like taking samples of skincare anymore so I went and purchased it myself on Amazon and it’s actually divine. I don’t recommend it for sensitive users because it does have a lavender fragrance. It’s quite thick, creamy, absorbs easily and seems to work great at depuffing my eyes and providing excellent hydrating. My under eye area looks so much more smoother using it.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Eye Cream ($39) is also really making me happy lately. You know I’m an absolutely h0r for anything Dr Jr Ceramidin. I was beyond excited that they went and added an eye cream to the collection. This is light but it hydrates very well! I’ll review soon as I only have it for a short time so more testing is required but so far so good!

Ok, alright, serious talk! If you don’t own Cheirosa ’71 Body Mist you need it. It’s pure caramel bliss! But…but….Brazilian Crush Cheirosa 40 Bom Dia Hair & Body Fragrance Mist…LIKE WOW! It smells so good. It’s sort of been my Summer weekend staple. It’s just sultry and delicious and oh la la I smell so pretty. YOU NEED IT!

And finally, Paula’s Choice Omega + Complex Cleansing Balm! AMAZING! Paula’s Choice is currently buy one item and get 15% off or buy two or more and get 20% off and please, please, go get yourself some of their cleansing balm. I can honestly say this is probably going to wipe out Farmacy for me. You know I love my Farmacy Cleansing Balm! But this stuff is soooooo good! Melts down to an oil, removes makeup so beautifully, and it never leaves my skin feeling tight or dry! You totally need it! Sephora.com also finally carries it!

And that’s this week’s love list!

I hope you’re doing well and staying well. I hope you have a great weekend. My boyfriend always says, “bella, find your calm” so, I hope if you’re struggling with something lately you find your calm and the peace within yourself. I hope you find courage to unfollow the people that aren’t supporting you. I hope you find new skincare and beauty to love. I hope you find the joy in the littlest things this weekend.

Please share your love list.

Happy Weekend friends!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. If you’re that person feel free to reach out and leave a comment or follow me on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Bloglovin‘.

    • Isabella Muse

Thank you Lily that means the world to me truly. Thank you for this! you all do the same for me too! You make me laugh and always brighten up my day!

  • Jessica B.

Hi I always read you, I’ve done it for at least 6 years but hardly ever comment. I love your content and that’s why I check on it every day. I also love your input in all things other than beauty.
    Best regards!!

    • Isabella Muse

Aw thanks Jessica! That means so much to me! It’s ok if you don’t comment! I understand! Just to clarify I was just talking about social media and interactions with people. Sometimes it’s so weird when you support someone across social outlets but they don’t return that back! But it’s ok if you aren’t commenting here! We all get busy, have lives, etc…! It’s not always an ideal situation to comment and also, sometimes people can be shy and not want to say much 😀 But thank you for commenting today! That means a lot!

  • kimkats

Bravo for you Muse!! I don’t facebook, or tweet, or tik tok or any of that… I don’t have the need or desire for people I don’t know to comment, critique or whatever they want to do on any aspect of my life. I would find it mentally draining and taxing, and I haven’t the patience or time for it. Glad you decided to unburden yourself of that kind of excess baggage. It’s got to feel better/lighter/happier.

And yer killin’ me with the awesome eye creams you find!! Eye cream is my weakness (“Cake makes me explode” – Kevin James, from “Jumanji – Welcome to the Jungle”) and I can’t resist a new eyecream… Plus I love the name of the “eyes eyes baby” one!!

Have a splendid weekend, Muse! Your blog is one of the very first things I check when I log on in the morning! ANd I check it repeatedly thru the day! **Mwah**

hey kim!!! Honestly, making online friends and having fun with them definitely kept me sane during covid! Especially during lockdown! As an extrovert it felt so horrible not being able to be in contact with everyone. So social media, face time, zoom, helped so much with real friends and also, online friends too! I do enjoy the interactions across many platforms but sometimes when you aren’t getting that in return it can feel awkward or even hurtful! And yup, that’s exactly what I did! Just got ride of the baggage and made room for the people that do deserve my time! Unfollowing people has been really an experience for me as I never want to unintentionally hurt someone with an unfollow somehow but I had a good talk with myself and realized most people won’t even notice ;-D LOL! Yay! I’m an eye cream junkie too as you know! LOL Love the Jumanji reference ;-D You too my dear! Enjoy! Thank you for always checking it and always commenting! I always look forward to your comment! Big Hugs!

What you said, on all aspects. Isabella comes from a place of love and hope. Im an ancient cynic who is morphing into a curmudgeon with eyeliner. The Muse is the real deal. She actually IS that positive hardworking person. Right now, it seems there are no others. Most beauty content providers are all about their net.worth. The whole drill is pretty heartless, monetized, and non-supportive. I could go on a major rant here, but wont. Iz is completely right to stop supporting those who are so self-aggrandizing that they only take and never give. She is open and always supportive, no matter what ones opinion is. Isabella thinks long, hard, and deep. She is light-heated, yet never shallow. Now, to revert to my usual form, anyone who does not support the Muse is a fucking idiot.

I totally relate to what you say Muse about social media. I read you everyday and always check your recommendations before I buy. Love your blog and appreciate you!

    • Isabella Muse

Awww linda thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Yeah, social media is weird sometimes! I shouldn’t be discourage or hurt by interactions with people but sometimes I can’t help being a bit sensitive about it.

  • MDW

Yes social media has bumped up parasocial relationships to another level. We are still learning about the effects of it.

  • Beka

    Hi !

I also read all the time but rarely comment. I fully agree with your post. Sometimes you have to consider whether or not the relationship is building you up, or draining you. All relationships can be draining at times, but if the trend is towards consistently draining versus filling you up, it is definitely time to step back. Im proud of you Muse!

    • Isabella Muse

Beka thanks! I really needed to hear that because for a moment I felt immature and even a little selfish and petty stepping back from it. Thank you so much <3! Sometimes I hate how being unseen feels! I don't like attention that's for sure but some acknowledgement is welcome if that makes sense 😀

  • Sakura

Hey Muse, I love your blog and am kinda addicted to it! Lol! I hope that you keep blogging into your ’70’s and beyond. Anyway go you…get rid of that toxic sh*t! I’m not big into social media. Instagram and Twitch are my jam. But you know I’m not a public figure so ppl don’t give me trouble. I only post dog and nature stuff. Hard to hate on that.

    • Isabella Muse

Haha thanks Sakura! I hope that happens girl and I hope you’re here with me to see it 🙂 Love me some Twitch too! I do dogs, food, life, etc…but it’s not so much hate really just people really fail on an interaction level somehow. And it’s discouraging!

  • Dena Mcclure

Good for you!! I don’t do content just a consumer but always appreciate your blog. I am volunteering with young women who are alone often first time mothers to help them and use makeup as one way of doing that. Thanks for your help in this area
    .

  • Michele M

Just wondering why you dont like taking skincare samples? By the way, I read your blog every single day!

  • Andie

I totally understand what you’re saying about people not supporting you. I am very close to weeding out my FBA Friends and getting rid of the ones that for some reason I barely see their posts (algorithm or on purpose?) and that can’t even thumbs up a funny or cute thing I post. I admit that I vent a ton of crap on there because I have no support near me except my therapist every 2 weeks and my dog, so they may set things to not get my content, but why still be my friends if you’re gonna ignore everything from me & just wish me Happy Birthday once a year. Meanwhile, a few of my closest & most supportive friends are on there, so I can’t ditch the entire platform or I’d have no friends at all. The saddest thing is my cousin is one of my ‘friends’ and I don’t know how she has things set up but I rarely see her posts and she never clicks an emoji or posts something supportive on my posts. Never a thumbs up on a cute pic, never a comment on topics I know she’s interested in too. And she has 2 kids that I haven’t met and don’t even know the names of… I didn’t even know she was having the second. Yeah, people suck but at least online we can take measures to avoid a lot of the ones that add nothing to our lives.

  • Jill

Hi Isabella, Ive read your blog for years and I love it, have only commented a few times, I do comment on your IG posts (and I get giddy when you respond )

Anyway maybe check out Six Sister Stiff blog, its a cooking one and not complicated (I need easy) and yummy stuff.

    Thanks

  • MelodyJ

When you are planning your trips keep in mine that the delta variant is projected to peak in the us in October. I try to stay informed without burning out on pandemic news. I stumbled across this information the other day.

  • Jan Kelley

Again Im late to the party! I love all of your posts. Id like to suggest Jordan Samuels skincare. I love his balm cleansers and his newish cream cleanser. Its not loaded with a lot of unnecessary things. ??

  • Jan Kelley

I love your posts. I love reading your reviews, about your boyfriend and your little dog. You brighten my day. Recently I have unsubscribed from a number of influencers on YouTube. I am only interested in people who really like make up and skin care. People who in my opinion are honest and look like they’re having fun. I no longer follow people who only seem to review pr. And, these same people always LOVE the pr. I also no longer follow those who constantly flaunt their designer shoes, jewelry, clothing, designer closets etc.. It’s of to interest to me. I like to follow those who talk about all types of makeup and skincare, high end luxury and drugstore. I also like to see and hear about cooking. So, let me say I love your blog and your posts on Instagram. Thanks for always putting a smile on my face.

    • Isabella Muse

oh god I may sob Jan. Thank you for this. It really, really made my day. I’ve had a heck of a stressful February at work and reading this just totally made me smile! I love all of you so much; comments like this are why I continue to run this blog. Even if I reach ONE person that laughs with me and enjoys what I do here that motivates me to continue. Thank you Jan! Seriously, I can’t say thanks enough 🙂 And I understand how you feel! I feel very old lately (and lord I’m not THAT OLD) but platforms like tiktok make me feel 90! It’s just a lot of stuff I simply can’t relate to at all! You’re not alone! Thank you for following me! I appreciate you!
