3 stars out of 5

Wet n Wild In Love With Cocoa 9 Pan Shadow Palette is one of four, limited edition eyeshadow palettes that launched with the Wet n Wild Wild Crush Collection that’s now available at Target and online at wetnwildbeauty.com.

As you can see the Wet n Wild In Love With Cocoa Eyeshadow Palette does resemble some of the nine pan palettes we’ve seen from Colourpop like Nude Mood and Going Coconuts but the shades are different! It’s the design that really that gives this palette and the entire collection that Colourpop vibe!

There are some obvious differences like the fact this palette is made in China and the size is smaller too with nine shades that are 0.25 oz total where as Colourpop is made in the USA, $14 in price, and 0.27 oz in total size. Obviously, the Wet n Wild palette is a very nice deal compared to Colourpop’s version. That being said I think that Colourpop’s formula is a bit nicer in terms of pigment, blendability and formula.

This palette comes housed in a hard plastic compact with a clear lid. The eyeshadow wells are tiny bit smaller in size compared to Colourpop’s but my eyeshadow brushes fit in them perfectly fine. The amount of eyeshadow of 0.25 oz is almost identical to Colourpop’s version which is a smidge bigger by 2 oz. There’s no official “unsafe for eye use” on this palette but they basically imply the colors are unsafe by pointing out these are “eyeshadow pigments” and “face pigments”. In the back a small diagram outlines the shades 1, 5, and 9 as being “Face Shades”. Whenever I heard “pigment” I do associate that as being no eye safe. I did use these shades on my eyes but I do like to give a warning about this because the shades could cause irritation in people with sensitive eyes and since Wet n Wild doesn’t feel responsible enough to say as such I feel the need to say it here.

The palette does smell like chocolate but the scent is very light. It’s made up of five mattes and four shimmer shades with refined golden sparkle. It’s a basic nude palette and many of the shades you’ll likely already own several times over but the packaging and smaller travel size might make it appealing to pick up. Personally, I don’t think you need it if you’re a fan of nude eyeshadows because you probably have every single one of the shades already.

The formula is ok. I found the mattes a little dry but they applied and blended quite well for me. They weren’t powder either which was a plus as no fall out. The shimmer shades were ok as well! Not powdery but a little dry as well but very nicely pigmented and had an almost metallic-like finish to them. The formula are nice enough with excellent pigment and application but they dryness might be an issue for some users. It really depends how smooth your lid is as I can see these dragging on someone that has crepiness.

Wet n Wild In Love With Cocoa Eyeshadow Palette is very cute but not a must buy for anyone with a massive stash of nude eyeshadows. The formula performed nice enough but I don’t think it’s one of Wet n Wild’s best in show palettes. This is nice for travel or if you don’t own a lot of nudes and want to try some on for size you might wish to grab it but I don’t think it’s a must have for most makeup lovers.

Where to buy

Target Wet n Wild

Wet n Wild In Love With Cocoa Eyeshadow Palette is a new chocolate scented palette that’s limited edition and $4.99 in price. This palette features five matte shades and four shimmer shades all of which had a drier formula without any powdery kick up. The colors are nicely pigmented and apply well but all in all, it’s just an ok shadow formula and not one of Wet n Wild’s best. The palette does feature a few unsafe shades for eyes as mentioned above but is a nice value at under $5 for 0.25 oz of eyeshadow compared to the Colourpop 9 Pan it’s trying so hard to duplicate which is 0.27 oz and $14 in size. It’s not a must have for anyone who has a larger stash of nude shades as a lot of these colors can be easily duplicated.

Pros

  • Affordable.
  • Nice travel size that will store easily.
  • Pretty selection of shades.

Cons

  • Decent eyeshadow formula (I’ve seen better from Wet n Wild.
  • Light chocolate scent might be an issue for sensitive users.
  • Selection of shades isn’t terribly unique.

Who

Wet n Wild In Love With Cocoa Eyeshadow Palette may be a nice pick up if you don’t own a ton of nude shades and will make a nice travel palette as well!
