L’Oreal Got the Memo We Sent And Now Has Press To Release Jars To Preserve Ingredients

Do you remember that memo we sent out several hundred years ago to brands begging them for more hygienic and airtight jars? Well, it’s happening finally! L’Oreal Revitalift Pressed Night Moisturizer with Retinol launches today and it features a new fresh-pressed jar which keeps the moisturizer not only tightly locked away but also, by not allowing air into the packaging the ingredients and most importantly the retinol won’t breakdown and will remain fresh and well preserved.

This is amazing because we’ve literally been begging brands to do this for ages. The more light and air you’re letting into your moisturizer the bigger the chances are the ingredients are going break down quickly rendering your favorite, and likely expensive, moisturizer useless.

We’ve been begging for tubes for years but the press release jars that have been pretty popular in the Eastern market have slowly trickled to our own shores. We’ve seen a few brands introduce products in these jars lately like Tarte Baba Bomb Moisturizer.

It’s long been my belief they put things in a jar to encourage more sales. If you’re moisturizer suddenly stops working you start to believe it went off, you’ll toss it out, and buy a new one. I’m convinced that’s why they haven’t changed the horrible jar packaging. Most of us do NOT want to dip our entire finger into a jar of moisturizer! This new packaging allows you to press down and a small amount of moisturizer is released while the rest remains tightly sealed in the jar. Genius and long overdue.

Sadly, this packaging hasn’t extended to L’Oreal’s complete line of moisturizers but hopefully, with time they’ll understand how much we appreciate this packaging and redesign other products in their main line with it.

The new L’Oreal Revitalift Pressed Night Moisturizer is available now!

Yeah, that kind of packaging is partly why I love the Protini and Lala Retro moisturizers from Drunk Elephant.

I personally think all these creams and gels should come in tubes. It’s clean, there is minimal exposure to air, you can squeeze every last drop out of it, and there is far less plastic waste. They don’t look as elegant, so it’s a hard sell for those $250 creams, I guess. My issue with those air pump jars are the excess packaging and the fact that most leave a good 10% in the jar that can’t be pumped out.

I am so dating myself but Chers skincare line had a twist jar that would dispense the cream similar to this pump jar. This was over 25 years ago. Revolutionary.

wait wait wait wait….cher had skincare? Tell me more I’m listening!

Cher Aquascentials. Pretty blue packaging. Nice cleanser and scrub. She also sold a hair care line with Lori Davis. All on infomercials. Loved them.

She also had an online shop that sold the most amazing (and expensive) dark, gothy jewelry, clothes, housewares, etc. it was amaze balls!

Its a start. I actually got 2 jars in a recent derm store order. Actually surprised. Unless the product needs room temperature, I refrigerate it and pop out a bit with a spatula. Like I said before, jar packaging is bad retro. Cher??? Really? My thoughts lean more towards work than skincare.

Finally. I love both an Olay and a Eucerin moisturizer but theyre both jarred and its like whyyyyy. Frankly Id be over the moon if they came in recyclable aluminum tubes with a flip cap, but Ill take the push top jar!

Unless this jar is fully recyclable, I’m not too impressed. This is more wasteful than a tube, in my opinion. It also takes up way more space than a tube would. In this day and age, where I’m trying to be most environmentally conscious and saving up my packages to take them to a facility that’ll actually recycle them or dropping them off at a Terra Cycle box, a plastic jar encapsulated within another plastic jar that probably isn’t recyclable (my experience with these types of designs), just doesn’t cut it.
