Florence by Mills Mane Character Vibes Hydrating Hair Mask ($19) is a fairly new smoothing and hydrating hair mask created with rose bran oils and watermelon seed to nourish and soften your hair. I picked this up at 50% off during the Hair Event several months ago and I realized I never reviewed it.
Remember how I went on a mad hair care spree when during lock down? For some odd reason or another self care became self hair care. I was creating all these new hair styles, trying all these new hair products, it was all about my hair for some reason. This happened to be one of the products that passed by my desk during that time.
I know, I know! I’m not exactly the demographic for Florence by Mills anything but I still actually like the brand a lot. And hey, you don’t exactly have to be a teenager to enjoy Mane Character Vibes Hydrating Hair Mask as it’s just a simple little hair mask.
That’s actually part of its problem sadly. It’s just simple, nothing dramatic to see here. It’s a bit expensive at $19 for a 5 oz tube. I paid half that and even at $9.50 I would call it expensive just because it’s very basic mask for my hair type.
It’s a lightly creamy texture which can be applied generously to wet hair and left in for 3-5 minutes before rinsing. It contains rice bran oils as well as linseed and watermelon seed to hydrate hair while preventing dryness, frizz, and brittleness. It has an light aquatic watermelon fragrance that doesn’t leave a lasting fragrance behind.
I wouldn’t call it a revolutionary by any means particularly for hair as long as mine and as dry. It’s just a basic mask that provides some moisture but nothing too intense. I can see it being a great pick for anyone with thinner less dry hair. On the upside it doesn’t have a ton of harsh chemicals plus it rinses clean away without leaving behind build up. The downfall of a good, rich hair mask is it provides moisture but also, leaves behind a ton of ‘cones resulting in quite a bit of build up. This doesn’t have that issues. It made my hair soft, eases some frizziness, but in the end I needed a lot more moisture to be happy with the formula.
Do you need it? Probably not. It’s a bit expensive for what it does! It might be a nice pick if you have thinner hair and some frizz or even flyaways but the price prevents me from recommending this one fully. It’s just a basic hair mask at near $20.

The mask is marketed to treat frizz, flyaway hair, and dryness. In my experience, the hair mask is very basic and probably would be best suitable for thinner hair that isn’t as long or as dry as my own. It’s a very light creamy consistency with a fresh watermelon fragrance that doesn’t leave behind a lasting scent in hair. It rinses clean away and doesn’t contain a ton of chemicals or silicones which results in less build up when using it. Sadly, the lack of cones also means it doesn’t provide much moisture either which makes it a mediocre hair mask for anyone with drier hair!
