I didn’t even know Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water Replumping Hyaluronic Acid + Aloe ($10.49-$13.49) existed. Oops! Garnier has come out with so many variations of their Micellar Water formula that I’m way behind on trying the all. Rose, Vitamin C, Waterproof, and now we have a version with Hyaluronic Acid. Well, sign me up because I’m passionate about any and all Hyaluronic Acid products. I’m convinced Hyaluronic Acid makes my skin look brighter, smoother, and more hydrated. It can’t hurt having it in my micellar water right?

Fun fact about my skincare routine. It’s rare I use Micellar Water. GASP! Oh my god! I know simple and fast is the order of business in our lives but when it comes to removing my makeup I’m not quick and fast about it. I do a double cleanse. Hell, maybe we can consider it a triple one as I remove my eye makeup with an eye makeup remover first, followed by an oil or balm cleanser, and followed by a more hydration cleansing foam or milk. I do keep micellar cleansing water handy though because some days you come home, you’re tired, it’s late, and you don’t want to go to bed with your makeup on. That’s when this formula comes in very handy! It’s great for quick removal.

For a while, Micellar Cleansing Waters were all the rage until more recently when dermatologists started telling us, “well, maybe leaving micellar water on your face isn’t a good idea!” When you use micellar water no rinsing is required and that’s ok because it might not bother you at all leaving it on but some people can’t tolerate residual surfactants and might find it irritates their skin and possibly causes breakouts. If you love your micellar water though and still want to use it but you are prone to such issues just rinse your face with cool water after using it to remove any residue that it may have left behind. However, the benefits of something like Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water Replumping Hyaluronic Acid + Aloe may be lost on you. Or any formula that contains additives such as Niacinamide or Vitamin C as you’re essentially rinsing that away! In this case, we’re dealing with Sodium Hyaluronate aka Hyaluronic Acid.

One thing that I was concerned about when trying this formula would be if I’d feel tight after use or even dry. I use Hyaluronic Acid on damp skin as Hyaluronic Acid is a humectant. It binds and retains water molecules to plump and hydrates dehydrated or dry skin. As a humectant it attracts water to the skin however, it also needs water to work. I tend to apply Hyaluronic Acid on damp skin. I have dry skin and if I’m applying Hyaluronic Acid on my skin it literally has nothing to soak up. My skin is dry and therefore, it’s overworking to try and grab any and all moisture. This in turn makes my skin feel tight and drier. If I apply it on damp skin it grabs up that extra moisture and allows it to soak back into my skin.

That’s why using this on dry skin had me a little skeptical about how it would work. I was essentially using it on my try skin and I was concerned I’d feel tight after use. A few reviews I read did in fact say they felt rather tight and dry after use but thankfully, I didn’t experience this for myself. The formula isn’t a bi-phase one like the Waterproof formula in the blue bottle. This is like the original pink bottle consistency which is essentially a watery consistency. It felt cool and refreshing on my skin and didn’t leave a sticky feeling behind or any tackiness. It left my skin smooth without any tightness or dryness. However, I would not say I felt any more hydrated after use nor would I say my skin felt plumped. Believe it or not but when using products like Youth to the People Triple Peptide Hydrating + Firming Oasis Serum with Hyaluronic Acid, Hadalabo Gokujun Hyaluronic Lotion Moist, and Tatcha’s The Dewy Serum I can feel how bouncy my skin feels after use. This didn’t produce that feeling. It just removed my makeup. Nothing more, nothing less. Would I have liked it if plumped my skin? Absolutely. It would be rather awesome if my micellar water acted as a skincare as well but sadly, I really didn’t experience much in the ways of plumping or even feeling more moist and hydrated after use.

How did it do with removing makeup? Ok. It didn’t have any fragrance that I noticed and it removed my makeup quite well. It struggled a bit with regular and waterproof mascara. I tend to just saturate a cotton pad, hold it over my eye for a few moments, and wipe. This seems to help remove eye makeup a little better. It didn’t experience any stickiness after use nor did it leave me with cloudy vision. It didn’t sting my eyes either. I gotta admit though I don’t feel fully cleansed when using micellar water. I always feel like there’s some makeup left behind (even if there isn’t). So, in the end, it’s just an ok way to remove makeup. I feel I get a better cleanse with an oil or balm.

Where to buy

Ulta Walmart Target Amazon

Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water Replumping Hyaluronic Acid + Aloe is a fairly new Hyaluronic Acid-infused micellar water that removes makeup and is advertised to plump and hydrate skin as it does. Personally, I felt this formula was a lot like the original pink bottle. It has a runny, watery consistency that was light, refreshing, and cool. It removes makeup ok but struggled with mascara, particularly waterproof ones. The formula felt light on my skin but I didn’t feel like it had the normal bouncy, plumping effect that a Hyaluronic Acid serum would provide.

Aqua / Water / Eau, Hexylene Glycol, Glycerin, Poloxamer 184, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ppg-26-Buteth-26, Peg-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Myrtrimonium Bromide, Disodium Cocoamphodiacetate, Disodium Edta, Potassium Hydroxide.
