Trader Joe’s Cleansing + Conditioning Hair Wash Review

5 stars out of 5

I picked up tube of the new Trader Joe’s Cleansing + Conditioning Hair Wash ($4.99) on a recent grocery shopping trip and I regret nothing. I normally love and use Kristen Ess Frizz Management Cleansing Co-Wash but I decided to give Trader Joe’s formula a go.

Trader Joe’s Cleansing + Conditioning Hair Wash is a paraben, silicone, sulfate, and detergent-free formula. I try to keep silicones out of my haircare but if I’m honest sometimes my hair craves them so, sure, I purchased a tube of this but was thinking it probably wouldn’t make its way into my normal haircare rotation just because I refuse to give up silicones. Well, I was surprised.

Somehow, someway, Trader Joe’s left out the silicones but still created a formula that’s thick, creamy, hydrating, and coats hair wonderfully well. This formula has a delightful fresh grapefruit and mint scent with a creamy consistency that my hair absolutely loves. It leaves my hair soft, smooth, and manageable plus it rinses clean away without weighting hair down and causing any buildup!

I was surprised. I really expected an Lush American Cream-like formula that didn’t really hydrate as well as one would want or expect from a conditioner or in this case, a conditioning formula. But it provides plenty of moisture and hydration after a single wash.

Just apply it to wet your hair! It won’t foam up but it does cleanse hair and gets it clean without the need for shampoo not to mention it leaves it soft, tangle and frizz-free and smells lovely.

This is a keeper! It’s inexpensive and does the job. I’ll buy it again.

I purchased this item.

I love it as well….I probably have 10 bottles hoarded up for in case they decide to discontinue it 🙂 Speaking of cleansing conditioners, my hairstylist got me hooked on an Etsy cowash called Long Hair Dont Care and it’s the best I’ve ever tried

Hi! Do you know what the “fragrance” is derived from? Is it essential oils or straight up perfume toxicity? I have such a sensitive scalp and currently use New wash which is what they’re copying and theirs is derived from oils, it’s so expensive, would love to use this as a dupe !

Sorry I have no idea. I take fragrance as being something chemical otherwise they’d have “essential oil” in the ingredients.
