Physicians Formula Rose All Play Eyeshadow Bouquet Review & Swatches
Have you been waiting for my review of the new Physicians Formula Rose All Play Eyeshadow Bouquet ($17.99)? Well, it’s here! Just in time for Spring 2020 and Valentine’s Day releases! I picked this up when it launched on Physicians Formula’s website back in December because I’m really struggled locating it at CVS. Apparently it launched at select CVS locations but I know every single one I’ve visited hasn’t had a single one. I finally caved when Physicians Formula had free shipping and purchased it. It is now available at Ulta.com! Strangely enough, I was SHOCKED at the size. This thing looks huge on Instagram and on their site but it’s actually a portable palette that will store and travel easily. I dunno why I was under the impression it was some big ass palette.
It holds 12 shades which are 0.04 oz each and it is Made in China. The price does make me cringe slightly. $17.99 for a drugstore eyeshadow palette? Ouch! I mean, Maybelline’s new Nudes of New York Eyeshadow Palette contains 16 shades and that’s $13.99. I don’t mind paying for something if the quality is good but also, I have some reservations about spending near $20 on an eyeshadow palette from the drugstore you know? That being said, so many coupons apply that you might never even have to pay that much for it but regardless, I still think the original retail is a tiny bit high.
Price aside I think the Physicians Formula Rose All Play Eyeshadow Bouquet is quite cute. It’s also, something that would have done a bit better if it launched in February. They launched back in December which was likely a money grab when spending was high but I think makeup fans would have been way more eager for it as a Valentine’s Day/early Spring launch. I’m pretty much in love with the entire rose theme of this collection!
I have to admit I love the rose theme! I’ve always been partial to rose makeup launches! The recent Milani Rose Blush Trio Palette and the of course, the Milani Rose Powder Blush not to mention the The Body Shop RoseFlower Blush from their Rose Collection that launched a few years ago! Roses are just a pretty pick for Spring launches for some reason! But this palette isn’t all rose, there’s some very pretty mauves and neutrals as well!
The palette comes housed in a lightweight cardboard compact with a clear plastic window and a magnetic closure. There’s a get the look guide located on the back that gives you instructions for creating three different looks but shades can be combined, mixed, and matched anyway you like! Also, on the back, you’ll find each shade name but I do wish they were printed below the shadow wells. As I said above you get 12 shades in a mix of finishes. There are 7 silky mattes, 1 satin, and and 4 creamy shimmers. Heads up, for $17.99, the packaging could probably be a little better. I mean, they could have sprung for some plastic right? That being said, they should pop out of the compact a lot easier in cardboard should you wish to depot. The palette does have a light rose fragrance but it seems to have disappeared since I used it a few times. It is Made in China which may or may not be a big deal for you! I have no issues with that but it deserves mentioning for those that do.
I dunno if Physicians Formula Rose All Play Eyeshadow Bouquet offers up any truly unique shades but it sure is a pretty assortment of dusky roses, mauves, raspberries, and a few subtle neutrals. The palettes matte formula was soft and silky but didn’t have a ton of powdery kick up. The mattes were sort of a cross between a satin and a matte. These applied quite well for me but worked best when applied with a sponge eyeshadow applicator. I did get a little bit of fall out with all the shades aside from the shimmers which had a creamier, chunky texture and acts as a overcoat of sorts! The shimmers were a bit sheerer and I used them in my looks as a top coat for a bit of shimmer. You can use them on their own but they do apply sheerer. They do apply best using your finger as they don’t pick up very well with a brush due the hybrid powdery cream formula. The sole satin in the mix was soft and silky as well! Many of the “rose” shades, I use quotes because they can’t all be classified as rose, were very pigmented with excellent color pay off. Even the softer, base and highlighter shades were quite pigmented. They all wore well on my drier eyes without primer and I experienced no creasing through the eight hour wear.
So, moral of the story…This isn’t the best eyeshadow palette I ever tried but it isn’t the worst either. I actually liked it a lot and I enjoyed the shade line up. I think there are some pretty shades here that are very flattering. I do wish it was cheaper as I feel like for near $20 the formula isn’t quite good enough for that big a splurge. But if you can snag it on sale I’d recommend trying it out for yourself!
Or have you already?

Where to buy
Physicians Formula Rose All Play Eyeshadow Bouquet is a new Spring 2020 eyeshadow palette inspired by roses. This palette is $17.99 and contains 12 shades that are 0.04 oz each. There’s a mix of shimmer, matte, and satin finishes but the palette is dominated by satiny matte shades overall. I think the price is a little high here for a drugstore palette and although the formula is nice it isn’t great or groundbreaking enough to warrant the near $20 price tag. I created some nice looks using the shades and I felt the formula was soft, silky, and easy to blend and apply! The shimmer shades might prove disappointing and I felt they were more of a topper eyeshadow as they apply sheerer but using them to compliment other shades they look lovely! The pigment on the other shades proved quite good. As I mentioned in my detailed review above the palette is nice but the formula isn’t groundbreaking enough to warrant the higher price tag.
