3 stars out of 5

Kosas BB Burst Tinted Moisturizer Gel Cream ($38) tinted gel cream moisturizer that provides light coverage, hydration, and even skincare benefits. I decided to purchase this one because I’m not only a fan of Kosas because also, because I love a good BB Cream moment. The big claim to fame with this formula is it contains copper peptides that act to plump and firm skin while supporting collage. I didn’t really buy it for skincare benefits as I’m not a big believer in foundations that contain skincare or sunscreen. I did however, grab it because I’m really into natural, lightweight foundations since I don’t require a ton of heavy coverage as my skin is in good shape and all I really need is something to ease dullness and brighten.

I actually like this formula but I need to be real about it as well and understand it has limits. One thing I’m really not a big fan of is the price. It’s $38 for a 1 oz bottle where as Kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation SPF 25 with Hyaluronic Acid and Niacinamide is $42 for the same size. Revealer has a hell of a lot more pigment for an extra $4. I really wish they’d have considered putting this at around the $30 mark. Almost $40 for a sheer formula that’s essentially a tinted moisturizer is a bit much.

There’s a lot more to discuss in this review so let’s get into it.

Kosas BB Burst Tinted Moisturizer Gel Cream is not a formula everyone is going to love. I would say if you enjoy products like Chanel LES BEIGES Water-Fresh Tint or Covergirl Simply Ageless Skin Perfector Essence you’ll enjoy this formula. It’s not a DUPE by any means of those formulas but it does apply like them! I’ll get into that in a bit.

This comes in a pump that holds 1 oz of product. The pump works just fine dispensing the perfect amount of product. The formula is a light gel-like consistency that “bursts” upon application. It sort of goes watery and that’s actually why I’d compare it to Les Beiges or Covergirl’s new Skin Perfector. It sort of thins out as soon as it hits your skin. If you have drier skin you’ll enjoy this as it feels refreshing and lightly hydrating. But that’s not to say oily (or combo) skin users can’t use it as it’ll work fine for them as well considering it’s so lightweight and isn’t oily. I’m going to recommend something I normally would never recommend and that’s to apply this without a primer. I can’t speak for a silicone-based primer but I use hydrating primers and I’m big on making sure I’m super prepped before I apply foundation. As someone with dry skin I want my skin smooth, well hydrated, and almost dewy to the touch before I put any sort of foundation on my skin. This formula seems to apply very streaky over a hydrating primer. Now, if you’re familiar with Covergirl’s formula that actually has the same issue as does the Rose Inc Skin Enhance Skin Tint Serum Foundation. But this seems a little pickier during application. So you might want to try it without a primer first as it seems to apply much, much smoother without it. I’ve played with a lot of methods and one of the ones that works best is applying it on the back of my hand and taking a good buffer brush like Real Techniques Bubble Blending Makeup Brush and swirling into the cream. Once your brush is loaded up go ahead and swipe it onto your skin! Don’t buff! It’ll only streak if you try to press it in. I recommend swiping it and after that do a few circles and you’ll get a smoother finish. I know in my swatches this appears to have a glowy finish but it does not. Unfortunately, I can’t really speak for the skincare benefits as I haven’t been losing this long enough to see any visible results. I will say I’m always a little skeptical of foundation that contains sunscreen or skincare benefits.

I do think it’s a formula that can only only look steaky but also, can accentuate dryness or uneven skin texture. It needs a little TLC to apply correctly and if you do get a good technique for application down you’ll be really happy with the results. It took me a few times to get it right but now that I understand better how to apply it I really like it. It’s very sheer so don’t expect this to cover any major skin issues. It’s enhances your own skin and brightens it while easing dullness and evening out your skin tone. It’s has that your skin but better finish that looks very natural. It’s the type of coverage you’ll want to wear when you aren’t going for a full glam look. It does wear a shorter time as well! I can get about four hours out of this (not set with powder) before it shows signs of wearing away.

There are faults here but I actually really like the way makes my skin look! But there’s no doubt that the Kosas BB Burst Tinted Moisturizer Gel Cream can be frustrating to apply and it does wear a shorter time making it a no go for a lot of people! If you can snag this one on sale you might want to check it out!

Where to buy

Sephora Kosas

Kosas BB Burst Tinted Moisturizer Gel Cream is a newly launched tinted moisturizer that’s available in 24 shades which is priced at $38 for 1 oz. According to Kosas this is formulated with Copper Peptides to visibly plump and firm skin, Saccharide Isomerate and Sodium PCA to hydrate and zinc to help with redness. I haven’t used it nearly long enough to speak for any skincare benefits. This is a very lightweight gel formula that gets thinner and almost watery when it makes contact with skin. It feels refreshingly hydrating but not greasy nor does it create any shine on my face. It’s sheerer but has enough pigment to even out my skin tone and ease dullness with a nice brighter, fresher finish. It does apply fairly streaky and you need to find a good method of application to avoid this. I thought it best applied without a primer and to make sure your skin is completely dry after applying it to ensure the best application. Also, applying to the back of your hand and swiping a brush into the formula worked best for applying to your face with a fully loaded brush. It does wear a shorter time without powder. I got about four hours of wear before it faded off. It contained no fragrance.

I just tried this over the weekend. I applied it with my fingers, which worked fine. My skin is more oily, and I was pleased that my face never looked greasy. I had a little more glow by the end of the day. I do agree with you about the price!

I was wondering how well it would work on oily skin! I really do like it but I think the key to good application for me is to avoid primer! It works best and smoothest on my bare skin!
