Lush Shipping Sucks and I’m Ready to Admit That Now

I’ve always been a huge fan of Lush Cosmetics and I still am on some levels. It’s expensive (especially in recent years) but it’s always been a significant part of my bath and body routine and years and years ago it was part of my skincare routine as well. I’ve since stopped using a lot of their skincare because as you get older you become wiser and realize not everything is good for your skin as you believed it to be. I got a little smarter about what I was putting on my skin and realized Lush Cosmetics wasn’t really a great pick when it came to skincare. But I was still very much a fan of their shower gels, shampoos, soaps, bubble bars, etc…!

I used to love to shop on the Lush UK website but they sadly no longer ship to the USA. I’m not a big Lush store girl for a few reasons, one of which is how aggressive the sales reps have become. Years and years ago it wasn’t nearly as awful as it is now. But the past several years they’ve literally ruined the entire experience of shopping at a store. They are way too pushy, even when kindly saying, “Thanks, I’ll let you know if I need anything!” They just come at you so forcefully. “Oh you have this shower gel in your cart you need to try this product too as they smell the same!” “Oh, try this on your skin. It feels amazing!” “Oh you really need to check out our gift boxes!” “Oh this new and it’s a must!” It’s just an endless stream of pushiness to a point you get a migraine within minutes of walking in the door. There is no peace when shopping at a physical store. The other thing I never really liked about Lush stores is the fact the soaps, bombs, bubble bars, and a few other items are all “naked” with no packaging. Lush stores always have a ton of foot traffic be from curious new shoppers or seasoned veterans. That means everyone is touching everything and so are their kids and teenagers. I just find it gross that hundreds of people are touching the same bath bomb, sniffing it, and putting it back into the bin for someone else to buy. It just seems disgusting.

So, about 99% of my shopping experience with Lush has been done online and up to a few years ago it’s been an ok experience but as of now I’d go so far as to say Lush shipping sucks.

Several months ago my favorite over consumer, I’mJulieKay, spent $424 on a Lush haul and proceeded to do a Tiktok about how awful it was packaged. And I couldn’t agree more. I’ve been there several hundred times and it’s exhausting. I dunno how but Lush manages to ship every single shower gel, body spray, perfume, or pot of anything with the lid or cap partially screwed on which results in a leak every time. I’ve gotten so used to my orders arriving like this I don’t even bother contacting customer service anymore as it’s a pain to take pictures of the box, pictures of the product, and explain to them what happened only to have someone else take over the support ticket and proceed to ask for the same thing again. I just deal with it now.

But I got my last order and it was all dusty and sticky because they refuse to wrap bath bombs and bubble bars so everything is just tossed in the box. I’m sort of fed up and done with this. I hate having to take the time out to wash off every bottle and pot as soon as it arrives because it’s full of bath bomb dust or glitter. I understand they want to do something great for the environment by doing “naked” packaging but there has to be a better way than getting a very expensive box of leaky, dusty products.

Here’s my latest order. It’s the Kitchen Box Gift Set basically arrived all dusky and the shower gel dripped a little! Thank god it was only a little drip but everything else was a big dusty, sticky mess. This was a $70+ order. For almost $100 I’d love a little more tender loving care when packaging it up!

I just ordered their new body sprays and I’m 99% sure at least one (that’s my hope anyway) will arrive leaking and ruin the rest. But knowing my luck I’ll probably get more than one bottle that isn’t screwed on tight. I think I’m finally ready to admit that Lush shipping sucks and they really need to overhaul how they do things because I think I’m getting to a point that I want out of my toxic relationship with them.

How’s your experience been with Lush shipping? Do share!

I’m glad you posted this. I’ve also stopped buying from Lush for all the reasons you list and more recently from Bath & Body Works. The outrageous price hikes, things destroyed when they get to you, and scammy sale structure with surprise 1 day sales w/ no doubling up on offers, etc. It just seems so clear they’re taking everything they can get. I’ve started ordering Greenwich Bay Trading Co again which used to be my go to before BBW.

I’m sad to say I think I’m done with it. It’s exhausting to work with CS on getting a replacement for something I paid for and they ruined by tossing into a box. BBW hasn’t QUITE hit my nerve yet but it’s getting there. Never heard of Greenwich Bay Trading Co, I’ll have to check it out!

I’d send that picture to their customer service and pictures of anything that leaked out or got damaged. If you are losing ounces with leaking or things crumbling to dust in shipping then you are not getting the full amount of product you paid for and dealing with the mess. I’ve had similar experiences with other companies and they sent me replacements.
With BBW their customer service was quick to send me out a replacement for damaged items the one time I let them know, but I’ve also gotten sticky items or just a tiny bit of something leaked and I just wind up washing it off and it doesn’t seem worth the effort to contact customer service. It sucks.

honestly, I’m too exhausted to bother anymore LOL! I just wash it off and continue on. Because CS sucks as they start the ticket with one person and you send them all they need but they proceed to have someone else reply the next day requesting the same pictures and info. It’s like oh god forget it. I’ll just wash it off.

I just received my LUSH order. My Karma Cream was runny, do to the heat, but it survived. My issue is how long it took to get, over 10 days. I also like to skip the LUSH store at our mall because it’s so tiny and always hectic. I sure hope Ulta gets more so I can order from them!
