Trader Joe’s Leave In Conditioner Review

Gather around haircare girlies and guys because the new Trader Joe’s Leave In Conditioner has been restocked! This has been out a few weeks but as with all things TJ it went viral and was impossible to find. I finally found it at my local TJ and hauled a bottle. Stupidly, I hauled a bottle. Just a bottle. As in one, as in only one. I read reports it was heavily scented and the scent was as pleasant as the OUAI Detangling and Frizz Fighting Leave In Conditioner that’s it’s a dupe for so I decided to just snag one. I’m planning on going back for another just in case it disappears ago or they decide it’s a seasonal item only. I compared OUAI Detangling and Frizz Fighting Leave In Conditioner and Trader Joe’s Leave In Conditioner ingredients below for you but as far as I’m concerned the two aren’t quite dupes especially if you take a look at the ingredients. But I’ll speak more about that in a bit! Let’s dive into this review.
Trader Joe’s Leave In Conditioner is available in a 6 oz bottle for $5.99. It’s a light, creamy consistency that works best on wet hair in my opinion. It has a light, fresh rose and citrus scent that’s very pleasant but is very strong. It does linger in your hair and as pleasant as I thought it was I do understand the reviews saying the smell is overpowering. It’s a pretty heavy scent! According to TJ the notes are rose, apple blossom, and jasmine, with hints of bright raspberry and lemon, over a base of bergamot and white musk. I smell rose, lemon and a bit of fruitiness but don’t really get the white musk, jasmine, or bergamot. But mind if you’re sensitive to fragrance it is pretty heavy! This formula protects hair from heat up to 450°F which is a plus if you use heating irons or a blow dryer. Plus it acts to detangle and smooth.
I am a SUPER hardcore Lush Super Milk fan girl and I’d liken the consistency and texture of this Leave In to that formula. It’s not a fine mist but more of a creamy one. I typically mist onto my hair as soon as I step out of the shower and wrap my hair in a towel and just let it do its thing as I get dressed. It does a super job of detangling and making my hair super hydrated and more manageable so my brush just glides through my hair. It seems like it retains water in my hair which is odd. I leave my hair to air dry most days unless I’m doing something fancy like straightening it and I noticed when I use this my hair stays damp for a longer period of time than it normally would. That’s not a big issue for me but thought it was worth mentioning in case you airdry your hair as well and need to do a style that requires your hair to be a lot less damp this than leaves it.
As for the formula and how it compares to OUAI I’d say the OUAI formula is a bit more of a finer mist, doesn’t detangle as well (I felt like I could slice through my hair when I used the TJ formula where as with QUAI I had to be a more careful with my comb through) but both did smooth and hydrate well. OUAI’s formula I get a bit more citrus from the scent where as TJ’s version I get the rose and citrus. Obviously, the TJ’s price is way sweeter as well at $6 bucks compared to $30!
All in all, for under six bucks this is a keeper! It made my hair super smooth, detangled instantly, and made my hair smell lovely! I’ll def get the extra bottle I want but I hope they keep it around as I would like to have the option of picking it when I head in for a shop! I hate when they do these beauty items only seasonal or just don’t bring them back at all!
