My reader Lana commented today and said, “Will the palette madness never end?” and it really got me thinking about makeup as it was in the old days. Does anyone remember a time when color collections were much more popular than palettes? Makeup palettes were reserved more for the Holidays versus being a standard seasonal release. Seasonal releases for Fall, Spring, and Summer typically included individual product launches or color collections but palettes were not something that played a huge role in those releases unless it was the Holiday season.
I remember Spring was always a time for Japanese brands to concentrate on many of their core collections but in the US it typically marks the time for newer base products such as concealer and foundation as well as skincare. Fall was always a hard hitter for new color products in the Western market.
Lana has such a point though doesn’t she? It really has been palette madness for the past several years. It’s one palette after the next after the next and after a while you realize, “Hey, I already have these shades in the dozen other palettes I already own!”

I’ve never actually celebrated a blogging anniversary on Musings of a Muse and today isn’t an anniversary but I realized while looking at some of my numbers today that I’ve been blogging over 10 years, and I’ve done 21,824 posts, gotten 315,895 comments, and uploaded over 78,000 photos.
How’s that for history? I’m officially a dinosaur! Beauty, makeup, and the community it lives and thrives off of has changed dramatically over the years. Nowadays most millennials don’t have the attention span for a regular beauty blog but instead turn to social media, Instagram in particular, for their daily fix of makeup and beauty. I get it. We live very busy lives and the quickest fix of beauty we can get the more time we have to be doing the dozen other things we have going on.
But I continue to chug on as I have the best readers around. You guys make doing this so much fun. There are days I wake up at 4AM so I can take photos and write posts for the day ahead. And some of those days I just want to throw my comforter over my head and sleep until 6ish like most normal people. But I remind myself there are brilliant people eagerly waiting for new posts and news on beauty and I wouldn’t want to disappoint any of you. Waking up at stupid o’clock to work on posts for the day is worth it when I’m surrounded by you, my friends and extended family, to share the love of makeup and beauty with.
So, thanks. Thanks for making me laugh out loud daily with your comments and commentary on makeup. Thanks for teaching me some new technique to achieve that “perfect flick” with liquid liner. Thanks for educating me on a host of different things. I feel like I learn something new daily from all of you!
