Kitsch Lip Balms Are Totally a Thing at Sephora

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Meet Taste Beauty’s Felicia the Flamingo Lip Balm which is a ten dollar lip balm available now at Sephora.com. This happens to be strawberry scented lip balm that hydrates and nourishes dry lips and just happens to come in a flamingo float shaped pot!

Did your brow slowly inch up there?

I had a brief flashback for a second there. I was 8 years old, I was shopping the Oriental Trading Company’s Catalog with my sister for lip balms to include in my gift bags at my birthday.

Sure, I’m as obsessed with cute lip balms as everyone else around here. No shame, I’ve always admitted to owning far too many of them but I admit to be slightly shocked to see such a kitsch-y lip balm on Sephora’s site. Hmmm…!

Speaking of beauty incubators, Taste Beauty is a fairly newish brand (2015) that creates a wide array of different pop culture inspired lip balms. For example, if you ever run across a lip balm scented like your favorite candy at the .99 cent store, Taste Beauty is likely responsible for it’s production.

So yeah, this was a little weird to see at Sephora. Ulta adds MAC, NARS, and Cover FX to their line up, Sephora adds flamingo shaped lip balms. Yes, eye brows are raising now! Cute, but an odd pick for Sephora.

Hmmm…!

Your next big beauty buy, kitch-y lip balms at Sephora.

Milk Makeup Mars Holographic Stick Entering Your Universe for Spring

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Heads up Milk Makeup Holographic Stick fans there’s a new shade on the loose called Mars. Milk Makeup Mars Holographic Stick is a retake on the popular Color Supernova shade that launched several months ago. This new golden peach is packed with meteorite powder, don’t ask, I have no idea where they got meteorite powder that gives skin an iridescent sheen. It’s in a hydrating stick formula so, all you have to do is twist, swipe, and blend it out. It leaves behind a gorgeous dewy glow anywhere you apply it. Don’t limit yourself to swiping on your cheeks! Milk says you can use it on your eyes, lips, and even your body.

Get it now at Sephora.com.

Oh by the way, Mars reminds me of Doctor Who. I’m behind on the new season, two episodes are keeping my Tivo warm at the moment. Without giving away any spoilers, how’s it going with the new companion? Do share if you watched.

And P.S. Speaking of universes and galaxies I think we all need this C-3PO R2-D2 bomber! Already ordered it! Use promo code YASPLZ to get 20% off at hottopic.com. Wink, wink nudge, nudge!

10% Off Makeup and Beauty at Macys and How About That Dirty Dancing Trailer?

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Hey there!

Quick heads up about Macy’s Friends and Family sale! You can enter promo code FRIEND on select makeup, beauty, and fragrance to get 10% off at macys.com. It looks like Chanel might be the only exclusion. Anything available at 10% has a small banner located on the bottom marking it as being available for the discount. I was looking through fragrance and most are discounted 10%!

Happy Shopping!

And P.S. How about that teasing clip of Dirty Dancing? Whoever that is playing Johnny is pretty hot but he kind of looks considerably older than Baby (and Abigail Breslin for that matter)! I’m looking forward to seeing this. Hopefully it isn’t as crushingly bad as Rocky Horror Picture Show!

P.S.S. I may or may not have watched the trailer like 3 times back to back. I admit nothing.

P.S.S.S. I promise not all New Yawkers have a horribly bad accent like that.

CVS Removes Parabens, Phthalates, And Other Gunk from Their Beauty Line

Remember a few years ago when natural and green beauty was everything. How many people remember Cargo Plant Love or Physicians Formula Organic Wear? Green is taking a new turn in the beauty world in the next two years as CVS plans to completely remove parabens, phthalates, and other gunk from their in store beauty brands. By 2019, all of the CVS in store brands will not contain these ingredients and that includes anything from the CVS Health, Beauty 360, and Essence of Beauty lines.

Apparently, that makes up over 600 products that are currently by these brands. CVS’s, Vice President was quoted as saying, “We listened when customers voiced their desire for products that still provide the benefits they need with fewer ingredients of concern. Todays announcement is a natural step in the evolution of our comprehensive approach to chemical safety.” While there isnt conclusive research to show the effects of parabens, phthalates, and formaldehyde, this is just a further sign of the coming “natural” beauty revolution. Its getting a little easier to be “green.”

So, if these ingredients are ones that you avoid using in your daily beauty and makeup routine you’ll be happy to know there are many “green” friendly products that will be available soon at your local CVS.

Imagine A World Where The Next Big Makeup Release Is Being Cooked Up in An Incubator

I don’t think we have to imagine a world where the next big makeup release is being cooked up in an incubator somewhere in the Valley. This is literally happening right now, this very second. Makeup releases are accelerated to a point that you wonder how much work was actually put into releasing the product. I remember a time when brands were busy cooking up their next release years in advance but nowadays it seems like within a 5 month period they already have their latest big release on the table and ready to go.

You might think of Jobs and Woz hanging out in a garage somewhere in Los Altos baking up Apple but incubators have come a long way since 1976 and no, they aren’t all run by Erlich Bachmans of the world.

I read a really interesting article recently on Racked about beauty incubators that got me thinking, let’s chat this a little more below.
