
Il Profvmo is an Italian Niche Perfume House founded by Silvana Casoli with a price range of $95 to $110. If had I choose a particular country for niche perfume it would likely be France as many of my favorite brands are from France but if there wasn’t France I’d always have Italy. There are many, many prolific Italian Niche Perfume Houses to love and Il Profvmo is one of those houses.
Il Profvmo has been around since 2004 but discovered the fragrances in 2013 when a friend of mine gifted me with Black Dianthus because they knew I was a fond fan and collector of Annick Goutal.
I hated it on first smell but it taught me a valuable lesson about fragrance. Never, ever judge a perfume by first sniff alone! As not to insult my friend I quickly tried to mask my disapproval of the pungent aroma of Black Dianthus when sniffing it from the bottle. I quickly understood why it was gifted to me after trying it. Black Dianthus is a sophisticated oriental with interesting floral notes like carnation and belladona swirled with fruity layers of berries, rhubarb, and vetiver. To me, it smells like a rainy day in an English garden. It’s actually a unisex fragrance so it has some warming notes from thyme and licorice but it also has a clean, yet deep, complex layer of floral notes that’s reminiscent of fragtrances from Annick Goutal like Eau du Sud.
