Tova Borgnine Passed Away in February

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

I’m very late with this news but Tova Borgnine passed away on February 26th. She passed away peacefully at the age of 80. Tova is best known for her legendary Tova Signature Perfume which is a gorgeous, clean white musk fragrance with notes of lavender, jasmine, sandalwood, and amber.

Tova’s been creating cosmetics and fragrances since the 60s after her plan to become an actress fell through. Her love of Hollywood definately comes through in her fragrances which all have a very old Glam Hollywood feel. Tova was married to Ernest Borgnine since 1973 and even published a book about her married life called Being Married Happily Forever”.

Tova and Marilyn Miglin are the creators of my two favorite white musk fragrances! Seriously, they created the essence of Hollywood in both. They each have such a vintage touch.

I was saddened to hear about Tova’s passing. I was so busy in February I wasn’t paying much attention to the fragrance and beauty world so news of Tova’s passing came a little late to me. I’m sure her fragrance legacy will carry on. QVC will be having a live Memorial Stream in the days that follow. No date has been set but QVC will send out an alert via newsletter if you are subscribed.

Rest in Peace Tova. You’ll be missed. Whenever you are, I know you’ll be smelling pretty!

Makeup Geek Going Out of Business and Closing Up

I’m sure you heard by now that Makeup Geek is closing its doors and going out of business. As per a recent youTube video, the company founder Marlena Stell announced her plans to shut down Makeup Geek. Marlena states the closing as a result of the pandemic and supply chain issues. This wasn’t a choice she had planned to make this year but it seems like she was forced to do so due to the pandemic. This news comes close on the heels of Coastal Scents closing their doors several months ago.

“Having almost an entire year of not having product obviously was financially devastating.” Marlena started her Makeup Geek youTube Channel back in 2008 and in 2012 she started her own makeup brand under the same name.

As some of you know she was involved in some controversy when she posted a long since deleted video about Jaclyn Hill’s business practices and “JH Lipstick-Gate”. She’s also been very vocal about the fact her brand’s struggle to stay relevant in the youTube community with influences charging up to $60k per sponsored post stating that her business was unable to pay that massive amount of money to be featured.

I actually didn’t realize that Marlena was involved in Makeup Geek. I thought her x-husband was running that end of the business and she wasn’t as involved and moved on to other things. I’m obviously not paying attention.

Makeup Geek was highly successful! They even made an appearance in Target stores as many of you know and a ta high point had 22 million in annual sales which is incredible for a small business.

It’s sad that Makeup Geek is yet another brand succumbing to the pandemic but also, to the ever evolving world of beauty and the changes that force businesses to close.

Will you miss Makeup Geek?
