Spring Cleaning? Don’t Forget Makeup Donations!

Summer is creeping up on us now and I sure do hope you got most of your Spring cleansing done. I am officially finished. I switched over my closet so all my warmer weather clothing is more accessible, I put away all the comforters and warmer blankets away, I’ve swept out all the fireplaces (chimney cleaners typically come late August)…I’ve pretty much cleaned everything I can at this point or had someone come in to do it (pool people, etc…). I love the switch of seasons as it gives me an excuse to clean and organize stuff. I’ve just finished packing up my boyfriend’s luggage as well. He’s back California at the end of the month for work….! I’m not ready to travel yet so, I’ll be here safe and sound in New York.

The most important part of my Spring cleaning was de-stashing makeup, skincare, etc…!

Just a heads up if you have unopened or new beauty items, skincare, etc…you can ship them to Family-to-Family or drop them off at one of their locations here in New York. It’s an org that’s close to my heart and I’ve donated to them several times in the past! They focus on hunger and poverty. They sponsor families with monthly groceries as well as other hands on family programs.

They also accept unused beauty donations! Beauty donations are shared with women and teens in crisis. Donations go to women who are homeless of victims of domestic violence. I’ve always said makeup is an empowering tool! It helps restore confidence and makes women (and men) feel their very best. I hope if you have some unloved, unused beauty you’ll consider donating it. It’ll make a world of difference in someone’s life. I typically divide my beauty donations between Family to Family and an organization in the city that helps impoverished teens with makeup for proms, homecoming, etc..! It’s a wonderful organization! However, since COVID they have not accepted beauty items (for obvious reasons, as proms, homecoming, etc have all been cancelled)! This year Family to Family got the bulk of all the donations this year.

Visit www.family-to-family.org for more info about donations.

If Family to Family isn’t the organization for you I’d recommend doing some research on local orgs in your hometown or city. There are many, many different programs helping young girls and woman that accept makeup or beauty items. I’ve always made it a point to take advantage of BOGO offers when purchasing deodorant, shower gel, etc…I’ll keep one and the extra stow in a bag. When I have enough items I’ll take a bag to Midnight Run (I used to volunteer for them a long time ago). They do prefer men’s items over women (it’s just because they see more homeless men than they do women or children). So, if you happen to get a BOGO offer at the drugstore it’s always nice to pick up an extra and put it in a bag! When you have a few items donate it to charities like Midnight Run. Believe me you’re making a massive difference in someone’s life.

I am not affiliated with them, they didn’t ask me to write this, they don’t even know who I am. This is just an organization I’ve seen for myself doing good and in turn has made me want to support them.

Good luck with your Spring cleaning 🙂

Inspiration Isn’t Here Today but She’ll Be Back Soon But There’s Still Time for a Fiery Trip to Mordor Shelob Awaits!

I receive a small commission if you shop through my link.

Oh my god I’m struggling so hard today to get some work done. I went to bed early last night, earlier than normal, and it totally fracked with my sleep. I went to bed at 10:30 and and just fell off mighty fast but at around 2-2:30 I was wide awake. I ended up falling back asleep at 3:45ish and my alarm was ringing at 4:45.

Blah….

I’m a sad, uninspired blogger today. I actually have a crumb load of work on my desk to get done for my real job. I’m sort of slowly working through that with a little peppering of procrastination thrown in. There’s some reviews scheduled for later today that I need to upload pics too so expect those shortly.

BUT WAIT….

Let’s discuss that time I suffered the the pits of Mordor for that deodorant I can no longer find….

If you know, you KNOW….

Story time. I know you love my crazy stories…

I’ve been trying to find Secret Va Va Vanilla Deodorant since the pandemic happened in store and it’s like impossible to find. They actually realized how bad and corny the name “Va Va Vanilla” is so they changed it. It’s now renamed to a very sophisticated “Secret Vanilla”.

Now, this has always been some sort of weird, elusive product. It was always difficult to locate for some odd reason or another. Harmons, CVS, Walgreens…they never carry it around here…! I have however, managed to locate it at the evilest of empires, the Deathstar, Walmart. Possibly one of the few reasons I’ll venture into Walmart is to buy Secret Vanilla Deoderant because it makes my armpits smell like a fluffy cupcake with vanilla frosting. Shrug….the things we do because we like pretty, stupid stuff….!

But every since April of last year it’s became impossible to find in store. Who’s hoarding it away? You’re the same person that grabbed all the Campbell’s Alphabet Soup, toilet paper, and paper towel aren’t you?

I’ve resorted to ordering it online and Walmart’s shipping takes forever and three to four years not counting weekends. I’ve been pretty close to just eating the Shipt’s cost and getting it from Target or paying the shipping from Rite Aide or Walgreens which both carry it…! Sometimes you gotta just pay shipping…!

So, cheers, to being inspired by deodorant today.

Today’s rant is brought to you by the letter R.

No deos, giant spiders, or Hobbits were harmed in making of this post.

I hope you find inspiration in all the things around you today. Sometimes it’s the small, tiny things that can inspire the biggest ideas!

-XO
