L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Les Chocolats Scented Liquid Lipstick ($9.99) is a new collection of chocolate scented matte long-wear liquid lipstick available in nude shades. I was pretty excited about these when they launched a few months ago not because they were chocolate-scented but because I was hoping to add a few more nudes to my lip collection. And really, the chocolate-scented thing also caught my attention if I’m being honest here.

Really thought, all this new scented makeup totally brings out my sticker collecting side. Remember scratch and sniff stickers? I was obsessed with them as a child (well, I was obsessed with stickers on a whole and I kinda of still am!) and I think that’s sort of where my passion for all this new scented makeup comes from. L’Oreal seems to be particularly interested in getting us all hyped about scented makeup everything. So far, they have launched scented blushes, a new Enchanted Scented Eyeshadow Palette, and they have a Berry Much Love Palette on the way and a Cherry My Cheri one too all of which are scented!

I know a lot of people hate scented anything but I honestly don’t mind and I think its kind of fun!

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Les Chocolats Scented Liquid Lipstick has all the makings of a great liquid lipstick but it faces the very same dilemma that Too Faced Natural Nudes Intense Color Coconut Butter Lipstick does. What’s that? A really horrible shade selection. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but I think these shades are damn hard to pull off no matter what skin tone you are. I felt they were either too dark or too tan or too gray. It’s just a really weird and poor selection of nudes that were terribly difficult to pull off.

I ended up with selecting the shade Bitter Sweet and I based my selection over what was visible in the barrel and also, the promo swatches I had seen online and sadly the shade is really wrong for me. Totally zombie lip moment going on here. The shade is a light tan beige nude, sort of greige, that looks very chalky and grayish tan on my lips. Need to say it’s very, very unflattering.

On the upside, the formula is brilliant. It’s much like the Infallible Pro Matte Gloss but thinner in texture. It glides on lips really, really easily and has a super thin and lightweight texture that sets to a matte finish. It’s such an easy formula to wear without being intrusive on my lips or drying the way some liquid lipsticks are. It’s very light and feels like I don’t have anything on my lips at all. It even has a rather cool feel when I initially apply it. The pigment is very rich and provides opaque color on a single application. Sadly, it does fall into my natural lip lines a bit and a little smoothing with my finger is needed to get the color to look less patchy. It isn’t moisturizing but it doesn’t feel dry or tight either and wears for six hours without feathering or migration.

Don’t buy it if you’re sensitive to fragrance! It has a very, very strong chocolate scent and flavor. I’m not huge on chocolate-scented products but I thought it was pleasant enough and quite novel but as I said very strong.

It’s a shame they didn’t get the shade range down to my liking because I could see myself purchasing more of these. The formula and texture is very nice and wears comfortably on my lips which is saying something for someone like me who hates matte anything.

L’Oreal Infallible Pro Matte Les Chocolats Scented Liquid Lipstick are launching now at drugstores or at ulta.com and target.com.

L’Oreal does a good job formulating long-wearing liquid lipstick into a comfortable, easy to wear matte formula. All in all the texture, formula, consistency, and pigment of this formula was excellent. I just wish the color range was as forgivable and easier to wear as these shades aren’t easy to pull off.

Available at ulta.com and target.com.

Wow. Shocked the shade was so light! I love the greiges, but am not a big one on fragrances in m/u products. I prefer to mainline my chocolate direct from digestive system to thighs… but, as to stickers, had to decorate that MAC dogs l/s shade with wee Sandylions of my fave breeds. We are not immune, esp if the Co blew it on the pkging.

Did you hear the Post Office is releasing scratch n sniff stamps?
I was an avid sticker collector in my youth. I, too, like scented everything!

I b ought two when they went live at Target and returned them both. I really liked the scent, actually, but the chalky colors were god-awful and the formula was sort of weird and sat on my lips like frosting.

If they broaden their color range on these – which they’re totally not going to do `cause these seem like a novelty release – I’d try more despite the formula. Oh well!

I actually think that color is very flattering on you muse

I love that ‘scented’ or ‘flavored’ makeup is coming back. Otherwise makeup is pretty boring to me. These companies need to pay homage to Bonne Bell who created the flavored makeup category originally with their Lip Smackers. In the 90’s they expanded to flavored lipsticks, body powders and multi-use shimmers and also scented nail polishes and cheek gels that I always coveted. Man, I really miss Bonne Bell. Loved their tinted and flavored Lip Lix balms that came in a ton of flavors and shades too.

Ha ha, I’m usually one of the people complaining about smell, but I put chocolate in my mouth, so this fragrance got a pass from me. The cons you list are correct – kind of weird colors and settles in dry lines – but I kind of love the product anyway. Go figure.

The redesign is really pretty, Muse. I like that the user functionality isn’t hugely altered. I’m still mad at Slate and that was four years ago, I think. : )

I wish wish wish I loved it but the shades are so bad for me. Thanks Jane ;-D really glad you like! thankfully I didn’t make you too upset ;D

So um I did the SAME exact thing as you, judged the color in the tube and bought it thinking it would be a lovely pink. But I like those ‘makes you look dead’ kind of colors! Just wasn’t what I thought it was going to look like.

    • Isabella Muse

It seems like every single shade in this launch was the makes you look dead kinda of color ;-D

would never buy- again a true waste of money-sticky for hours and hours-waste of money-not cheap
