I know alot of you enjoy drugstore brands (within the US that is) but I haven’t really been on board with them myself. I haven’t caught drugstore fever since I was in high school and rarely do I buy much makeup in drugstores. Up until I started my blog I rarely even ventured into a drugstore to buy much of anything. Well, times have changed since many requests come in daily for cheaper makeup options so I head to various drugstores to see if I can find decent makeup items.
Today, I have a Cheap Beauty Challenge post that’s upcoming in a few. As I was typing it out last week I realized something that could get me excited about drugstore cosmetics. This in turn gave me my idea for today’s Musings of the Day.
If you’re not a fan of drugstore cosmetics or you like them but wish they were a bit better this question should appeal.
How would you make drugstore cosmetics better?
What would make you want to buy more from your local drugstores?
Packaging? Pigmentation? Price?

I thought about this and as much as I wanted to say PACKAGING! I realized one thing that would be even better than packaging would be online advertisement. When you walk into a drugstore it’s rather nifty that they have various displays with new collections however have you ever noticed you can’t find ANY info about these releases on the brands websites? Take for example the Maybelline Focus on Gold Collection (I’m reviewing this in the Cheap Challenge). I can’t find a word about it anywhere on the Maybelline site.
How great would it be if all these little collections they release would have better online push. Maybe e-mail alerts? Or a website for the collections? Something that allows us to know that the releases are out. Most time collection releases are rarely pimped out online. I read someone mention that the Diana Keaton Collection was never on the L’Oreal site and when they called L’Oreal even the company didn’t know about it.
I think, possibly, US drugstore brands would be more appealing if I could get more info about releases and what was released with the collection, etc….at this point it’s more of a “surprise!” whenever you walk into the drugstore.
Packaging definitely would help too but online advertisement would be even better.
What do you think?
Tell the Muse!
Count the Muse beyond please that Soap & Glory didn’t take long at all to bring it’s new skincare collection to the US. Released on Boots UK early in May I was shocked when it popped right into my Target merely a month or less later. Nice work Soap & Glory!
I recently went a little Soap & Glory mad when it was on sale at Target and picked up quite a few staple items plus much of the skincare bits and bobs which accounts for my endless reviews lately on the brand. Hope you aren’t minding too much. As I try hard to search out good beauty budget options as per your requests I thought that Soap & Glory was both budget friendly, high quality, and fun which is why I choose quite a few items for review.
Today I’m taking a look at Soap & Glory Touch & Glow Daily Radiance Moisture Lotion and I’ll tell you what I think after the jump!
Soap & Glory Touch & Glow Daily Radiance Moisture Lotion is quite an interesting little product. It’s a basic facial lotion but with a little something extra that could appeal to those who like bronzers.
The lotion contains little beads that burst (or should burst) upon contact with your skin. These beads are little bronzing beads which deliver the “glow” to your skin that the product advertises. So basically you’re getting a facial lotion that has a tiny hint of tint to it.
The formula is light, decently moisturizing, and quite good for Summer wearin’ and tearin’. I think it might work decently on dry, oily, and sensitive skin as the formula is really light so I’m doubtful it’ll clog pores. I doubt I can make proper use of it in the Winter though as it doesn’t have nearly enough moisturizing benefits for my skin but for light wear in the Summer it’s ideal.
Now…the concept of the bronzing beads is a cute idea however it doesn’t exactly work unless you burst the beads between your finger tips. If you apply the lotion onto your face even with proper pressure the beads just slip and slide around without bursting. However, if you apply a small amount of lotion to your fingertips you can burst them easily and apply from there. It’s not too big a deal but it would work better if I can just apply and burst from the get go.
Honestly, unless you’re super duper pale you won’t really see any “glow”. It gives a decent dewy look to skin but unless you apply a whole lot you really won’t see a considerably different in your skin nor will you experience the glow the product advertises.
I love the concept of Soap & Glory Touch & Glow Daily Radiance Moisture Lotion but buy it for the inexpensive price tag, buy it for the cute packaging, buy it for a nice, light Summer facial lotion, however don’t buy it because you want to glow because sadly you won’t.
I like this. Not a bad moisturizer for the warm days of Summer ahead. I probably won’t purchase it again as I’m more a Lush girl as you already know but it’s a decent enough product if you’re looking for a cheaper facial lotion that won’t make your wallet scream out in pain!
Is it something you’d be willing to try?
Tell your Muse!
Yesterday I was telling you about Clarins Super Restorative Replenishing Comfort Mask which is very nice but pretty expensive too! Sad sigh. Have no fear the Muse can cheap it up for you.
I recently hauled a few bits and bobs from C.O. Bigelow’s Face Collection when it was buy two get two free at Bath and Body Works. One new item they introduced is the Power Berry Mask which is a moisturizing mask treatment for nourishing and restoring moisture to skin.

I dunno if I’d call this cheap as it’s $18, that’s somewhat high for C.O. Bigelow but I do generally like their products so indulge I did (plus the sale didn’t hurt the price too much either).
The C.O. Bigelow Power Berry Mask is a light purple shade and smells subtly of fruit and floral. Of course it makes the wild claims of how incredible the acai berry is for wrinkles, skin, etc….we’ve all heard those before. Simply put it delivers nice hydration to my skin and it’s cheap and that’s what matters most to me. Hey, if it helps with anti-aging in the long wrong I won’t complain!
I apply the mask and leave it on for 20 minutes you can do 10 as per the instructions. I just leave it on longer to get the full benefit of a moisturizing treatment. After the time is up I rinse with cold water and my face feels nicely softened and moisturized. It’s nothing dramatic but it does offer moisture where moisture is needed as my face is dry as all hells lately.
I read some bad reviews that said this made a few folks break out, haven’t experienced that but their was a slight sting when I applied. Barely noticeable to my hard as nail skin but I imagine if you’re sensitive this could possibly irritate or break your skin out so beware. Secondly, I got it free as I got it on sale but I’m really unsure if I’d indulge further at $18 as I’d rather just shell out the rest of my cash for the Clarins mask but if it’s on sale again I can see myself picking it up for sure.
Not an amazing facial treatment but not terrible either.
Good morning lovely ladies!
Quickie note for you. Reviews are coming up shortly (they are scheduled to post throughout the day and into the evenings as per normal) and I’ll have a contest live in a few too. My last Summer Loving Giveaway winner was DM’ed on Twitter and should expect her package shortly! Yay!
It’s a rather nutty day at my office again today and it’s been heaps busy all week, knock wood that’s always a good thing, which means I’m behind on comments, emails, twitter, etc…….I’ll get to it all shortly just give me a few and I promise I’ll reach out and touch you soon.
On another note I think I might have missed a few comments if I didn’t reply go right ahead and leave your comment again and I promise to do so as soon as I can.
Today is the first fab day we had this June in New York City. Sun is out, humidity is high, and it looks like, finally, it’s Summer. Feels like a good day for lunch out with my best mate Jai as it’s ideal weather for sitting on a bench somewhere with a snack while the the world goes by.
Btw do you prefer reading posts in the day or the evening? I’ve been trying to schedule posts both in the day and in the evening and I’m wondering what’s more popular with the masses.
Wherever you are today I hope it’s great weather and you have a friendly face to share a spot of lunch with and not too hard a day of work ahead of you (I have the first two but the last not so much hehe).
Remember theBalm Cabana Boy? No? Click it!
The day after I blogged it disappeared from Sephora forever. My question is where the hell did it go and when can I get my greedy hands on it?
A beauty mystery….
I’m calling the Balm tomorrow, will keep you posted. I need Cabana Boy in my life please for the love of makeup!
