Lipgloss Sets for Holiday 2012

I hate to rush the Fall away because it is my favorite season. But…now is a good time as any to start creating my Sephora Friends and Family Wish List. It’s also a great time to muse over what I’ll be stuffing into makeup lover’s stockings this season. Dude, I so sincerely lack makeup loving friends outside you guys! All my friends have other interests and aren’t as obsessed with beauty as I am.

I feel so lonely. Thank the makeup gods I’m blessed with all you wonderful like minded folk!

In the spirit of Holiday Gift Sets I’ve run across some amazing lipgloss sets we might all want this season.

Take a look!

Smashbox Studio Pop For Lips $26
A set of five limited-edition lip glosses in an irresistible, collectible tin.

Includes:

  • 2 x Reflection High Shine Lip Glosses in Candy (bubblegum pink), Star (clear pearl shimmer)
  • 3 x Lip Enhancing Glosses in Razzle (opalescent bright pink), Illume (pale nude with iridescence), Spiceberry (nude creamy pink)

What I think:
Too expensive and uneventful. Smashbox likes to round up what appears to be the same Lip Enhancing Glosses year after year. I’m a little tired of them to be honest and they tend to have a drier texture without much shine. I can skip this one.

Sephora IZAK Mini Lip Gloss Set $14
A five piece collection of mini lip glosses decorated with whimsical illustrations.

Includes:

  • Candy Floss
  • Sunset
  • Tea Rose
  • Fiesta Red
  • Berrylicious

What I think:
We’ve seen some of the Izak for Sephora Collection earlier this year and it seemed quite nice. I have yet to try in all honesty but this gloss set might change my mind. Although small, 0.05 oz each, they still have a friendly price tag which makes them a nice stocking stuffer.

NARS Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret $55
A Sephora exclusive lip gloss coffret featuring five Larger Than Life Lip Gloss shades.

Shades:

  • Silver Factory (aluminum glitter)
  • Chelsea Girls (flesh-toned beige)
  • Drella (ultra sheer hot pink)
  • Blue Movie (pink sherbet)
  • Myths (rosy pink)

What I think:
Way too costly! Larger Than Life Lip Gloss is a great formula but the brush kills the entire deal for me. Until NARS revamps the brush applicator I won’t be splurging near $60 on a mini gloss set. There are far TOO many gloss sets under $30 or a little shy of the $34 mark which entitle you to a bigger selection which a far friendly applicator. NARS fan girls need apply only on this one. I count myself one but this isn’t for me. Plus the shades are a boo….I def can’t see myself sporting Silver Factory even as an overcoat.

Stila All Is Bright Lip Glaze Set $25
A limited-edition annual holiday favorite featuring eight gorgeous, ultra-high shine lip glosses.

Shades:

  • Jack Frost
  • Jingle
  • Holly
  • Jolly
  • Joy
  • Splendor
  • Black Cherry
  • Sugar Plum

What I think:
One of my FAVORITE deals and steals of the season. It wouldn’t be Christmas without a Stila Lip Glaze Set! Love ’em or hate ’em it’s a great bargain that includes a large range of gloss with a formula that’s glossy with a beautiful tint. And $25 dollars? Steal!

Lorac Sweet Temptations Lip Gloss Collection $25
A limited-edition set of six sweetly scented, hydrating lip glosses infused with nourishing antioxidants.

Shades:

  • Candy Apple (warm red)
  • Frosted Gumdrop (bright pink)
  • Sugar Plum (berry)
  • Cotton Candy (medium pink)
  • Butterscotch (pale peach)
  • Crème Brulée (light pink)

What I think:
Another top pick for my Holiday wish list. I’ve purchased Lorac Gloss Sets almost every single year for the past several years and have always been very pleased with them. Great range of color, totally inexpensive, and such a fabulous little gift if you aren’t greedy and want to keep ’em for yourself!

Benefit High Flyin Glosses $26
A limited-edition set of six gorgeous mini lip glosses.

What I think:
A complete range of all the Ultra Gloss shades? Wicked! If you’re a Benefit Box Powder fan this set is absolutely essential! They are the perfect complimentary shades to your boxed powders. Absolute must have and a great formula too that’s plush, glossy, and ranges from sheer to medium pigmentation! Dallas=AWESOME!

Laura Mercier Mini Lip Glacé Collection $36
A set of four high-shine, perfectly pigmented lip glosses with rich, long-lasting color and brilliant shine for creating the appearance of fuller lips.

Includes:

  • Blush
  • Baby Doll
  • Rose
  • Bare Beige

What I think:
Laura’s Lip Glace is so underrated. It’s a fabulous formula with full color payoff and yes, $38 does seem a bit much to splurge. But truly the value is here considering the amount of pigment each “gloss” has. I’m always terribly pleased with this collection. If you like higher end this is the Holiday Gloss Set for you!

Sephora Gloss Lab $25
A ten-piece collection of gorgeous glosses for a customized pout.

Shades:

  • Pink Shimmer
  • Peach Shimmer
  • Coral Pink
  • Pink
  • Hot Pink
  • Neutral Rose
  • Rose With Shimmer
  • Clear Shine
  • Shimmer
  • Glitter

What I think:
Yes, sometimes Sephora gets it right. This is a nice selection of glosses in a variety of shades and finishes. 0.068 oz is a little small for the price but they do make up for it in variety however, sometimes the formula isn’t all that great. Will have to try them in store before indulging!

Anastasia Beverly Hills Kisses On My List Volume 2 Hydrafull Gloss Set $30
A limited-edition HydraFull Gloss set that includes three sheer, ultra-hydrating glosses and three new and exclusive Hypercolor glosses.

What I think:
I’ve fallen in love with this glossy formula. It’s plush, glossy, and makes my lips look ultra pouty! At $5 each for a 0.07 oz gloss it isn’t too shabby a deal either. Made up for 50% Pink and 50% Peach shades it caters to those who desire a more nude, natural range of color.

These are only SOME of the vast array of glosses that will be available this Holiday Season. This is an excellent time to start deciding which sets you want to add to your own stash. It’s also a great time to try out something new as you aren’t splurging on a single shade that will set you back $20 or more dollars. It’s the time of the year that $25 to $35 will not get you one lipgloss but several. Even in mini size this is still a most excellent deal plus brands like Tarte are extra generous and create sets will all full size products.

Dontcha just love the Holidays?

Feel free to tell me your thoughts on each of these sets!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. So many lipglosses! I think the Lorac set has the most diverse colors, but I can’t wait to see/test the other ones too.

  • Somayea

I feel the EXACT same way. None of my friends are into makeup as much as me, and those who are…well. I feel like I know more than them, but don’t want to come off as rude if I say “oh well, it’s not applied like this” or “you could do this”..so I usually keep my mouth shut. I don’t think anyone knows how much of a makeup addict I am. & I’m not stopping!

    • the Muse

LOL somayea! ;-D I feel that way with MAs sometimes. I know what they are saying is wrong about a release date or a collection but don’t want to be rude and correct them!

  • Jaz

I am thinking that I want Lorac and Tarte. Maybe Laura Mercier. The Stila one is a great deal ( I got mine last year for next to nothing. ) , but unfortunately my lips hate the formula. The stila glosses burned like no ones business. No likey

      • Jaz

Not surprised that it burned. All my life , I have had sensitive lips. A lot of brands irritate me, including some Mac lipglasses. That just means there is more Stila to go around for you:)

        • the Muse

hehe awwww that must stink 🙁 aquafina used this amazing gloss, you should check e-bay for it, I swore by it for my sensitive chapped lips in the winter! It was SUPER shiny too!

  • Robin

LORAC and Anastasia are on my wish list. I love Stila and it’s a maybe because I really want to try the Anastasia line. Sephiras is also a maybe. Been very pleased with their Hot Hues blushes. You didn’t mention Mally, but I’m skipping her set. Her lip colors were always too for me.

  • Angie Estrada

I love this season because there are soo many holiday sets!!! BTW do you know if Giorgio Armani will be having friends and family sale coming up? I missed out on the last one 🙁 I want to get the Maestro foundation and the corrector!! Thanks!

  • Amy Amethyst

I know what ya mean about not having friends obsessed with makeup. My sister is as bad as I am though. Probably because I made her get addicted to makeup like I am. haha So we have fun talking about it together. Since she moved to another state we don’t get to go makeup shopping together as often. It’s more fun to go with someone else!

    • the Muse

my sis likes it by default b/c of me Amy but she isn’t CRAZED. ;-D I wish I had more crazed friends hehe! My best friend thankfully keeps me sane as I think he might be more diseased than I am sometimes!

  • Susan K

The Lorac set is no brainer. Full size, lovely pigmented colors, great formula. If I could only have one holiday mu set this would be it. Sephora gloss lab looks interesting color wise, I’ll be checking out the formula in store. Anatasia, I wouldn’t normally be drawn to this but based on your recommendation will be trying. And Nars, get out of town. Where’s your holiday spirit? $55 for a mini set?! Thats no deal!

    • the Muse

ugh and don’t forget the shatty applicators…seriously it brings the level of the glosses so low in my book!

  • Sarah S.

Aw, Muse, that’s why we’re so glad we have you, too! Plus the awesome nods to geekery xoxo

  • Kim

I have no makeup-loving friends, either. That why I love your blog, Muse. This was a great list. I still haven’t decided what I want to buy myself (cuz it’s the only way I’ll get makeup I want) for Christmas yet, though. 🙂

    • the Muse

<3 Kim! awww poor us! hehe! My friends think I'm quite mad at this point. Thankfully my BFF is into makeup, he's as obsessed as I am! me either, I'm making my list but it keeps changing ;D!

  • K.B.

Great idea for a post, although I’m limiting myself to the Benefit set (if it’s still available by the time the F&F sale rolls around) because I already have too much lip gloss (too many lip glosses? whatever). My Sephora cart is ready for the sale, though. lol

  • Cindy

Oh Muse, I feel your pain! I don’t have any beauty obsessed friends either!!! My poor boyfriend has to deal with my rant and raves. Every morning (If I’m not working) I have my breakfast and a coffee, plop down in front of my computer and hit up your blog. I love you/your blog/everyone here. You/they keep my makeup side sane!

    • the Muse

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww right back atcha cindy! <3! I love you back! thank you for taking time to comment/spend time with me/everyone/etc I can't begin to tell you how much I appreciate it!

  • OrangeLipstickBlog

Lorac Sweet Temptations is on my hitlist! I need it!

I don’t have any beauty obsessed friends here either! Boo. I try to get my sisters to play along but they’re not really into it. My oldest sister let me do her makeup the other night and she kept asking, “How much did THAT cost?” I’m like, “Beth, you’re ruining all the fun by making me tell you how torn up my wallet is!” LOL!

    • the Muse

LOL Kaitlin! awwww! My sis is into it by default of me. I give her stuff, we makeup shop a bit, etc..but she isn’t CRAZED like me ;-D damn…!

      • OrangeLipstickBlog

Sometimes I wish all the makeup-obsessed people like us could all just live in a town together!!! LOL. Your sister is lucky – if any of my sisters ever gave me a beauty product I’d fall down from shock!

(Granted, one of my sisters is into nail polish but not to a crazy extent. I gave her one of my bottles because it ended up being a dupe for something I had and now she wears it all the time. Always makes me smile a little when I see her with it on her nails. Sisters are the best!)

  • Jackie Diane

I’m right with you, I have no one obsessed like me either. There’s a lot of eye rolling when i pass out my wish list every year, but I don’t care. My sister looks lost when I tell her what products I’m wearing. The closest thing I have is my friend who likes the stuff but certainly doesn’t keep up with it and doesn’t keep more than one of any product. Two bronzers? Madness! I’m around the boys more than anything and they couldn’t care less. The rest of what I do is so not girly I guess I need this as my balance.
I have more lippies than anyone could ever lose in a lifetime but I really have to have the Benefit set! I’m so excited to have that one in my possession! The Sephora IZAK Mini Lip Gloss Set is also a must have. So cute and and and the Laura Mercier. I love holiday set season!

    • the Muse

sigh! isn’t it the worst?! I want to convert the world Jackie! LOL! Who cares though right? So long as we are happy hehehe! even if our friends are missing out on that joy :-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!! they just don’t get it ;-D

      • Jackie Diane

Oh yeah let’s convert the world! My obsession makes me happy and others have their thing. It’s all good. It would be cool to have someone to shop with or show off my new pretties though.

  • Jenn

*squee* I’ve been wanting to try the Benefit glosses…this is so perfect. And I am right there with you Muse….I only have 1 friend really who is make-up crazed like me…and still not quite like me, LOL. Most of my friends are like…don’t you just start repeating colors after a while? *gasp*

    • the Muse

LOL jenn what?! nooooo ;-D all shades are different hehehehe ;-D I totally know what you mean though, my friend Jamie thinks all green eyeshadow is the same. EH!?

  • Lori

I can’t decide between the Anastasia set or the Stila set! I feel like Stila is super easy to apply and I don’t need a mirror to make sure it looks okay. But I have Moi by Anastasia and I love it!!! Uhg, decisions decisions!
