The Marsala Lip Look on the Cheap

This or That Beauty!

I can’t believe how quickly the Sephora Marsala Pantone Color of the Year Collection sold out online. One of the items that sold out quickly was the Sephora + Pantone Universe Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick! It was rather a gorgeous shade in my opinion! Not quite marsala mind you but still lovely none the less.

If you didn’t get it for some reason due to cost you can cheap things up with this alternative.

Mind you this isn’t a dupe but the new Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturizing Balm Stain in Fresh Fig is a nice switch up for the Pure Marsala Matte Lip Creme Lipstick! This is a nice raspberry shade! It’s not nearly as deep as the Sephora version and it’s a little bit lighter but if you missed Sephora’s version, you’re embracing the marsala trend at the moment, or just want the look on the cheap this is a nice shade to go with. It’s not nearly as brown based as Sephora’s that’s for sure but the raspberry aspect makes it a little more wearable as well. Fresh Fig kinda makes the shade a little more fun and Spring friendly! As I said it’s not a dupe for Sephora’s version but still a nice lighter more Spring forward way to wear the color!

Marsala is described as more of a wine shade but I’m noticing that the color is getting a little twisted with makeup releases and it falls more into a brown based berry shade or wine brown. Which is fine by me as I’m liking what I see brands doing with the shade! It’s surprisingly wearable and lovely.

I’m REALLY looking forward to Sephora Summer 2015 as I imagine they have something incredible planned for the shade!

What’s your favorite marsala shaded products of the moment?

I got my hands on the Sephora + Pantone cooling multiple stick. I just love it!

🙂 yay! I thought they did a great job with the collection this year, can’t wait to see what Summer brings!

Love my Marsala lipstick!! I love the packaging. I feel like I’m unleashing a samarai sword every time I open it. I bought the last one at the Sephora I was at right after Christmas. I’m tempted to buy one on Ebay because I love it that much.

my pleasure, not really a dupe but it’s a nice way to get a lighter marsala look 😀

as soon as i bought my sephora marasala lipstick and tried it on, i knew i already had a shade so similar – Revlon lipstick in Rose Velvet. On my golden tan skin tone, those two lipsticks almost look the same, although the Revlon one has a much creamier finish. So i tell myself it’ll be alright when i use up my marsala lipstick 😀

My favorite (more or less I wear it everyday) is the Maybelline Matt Touch of Spice. It’s not that drying so that makes it ever better.

  • Holly

I found the Sephora-Pantone formula to be too dry–too much drag.
My favorite non-dupes but rather “Marsala My Way” products are:
Sephora Rouge Cream Lipstick in Oh, Oh!
E.L.F.Jumbo Stick in Sangria Starters (although it is sheer and glossy)
Beauty For Real Lip Cream in Almost There
Ulta Lip Crayon in Daredevil (a little goes a long way)

Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey may come out Marsala-ish on certain skin tones. And I bet we all own one from a GWP at some point.

my favorite Marsala shades of lipsticks right now:

    Revlon -“rum raisin” (brown based)
Wet and wild “spiked with rum”
    Loreal “toasted almond” (brown based)

these are not exactly “Marsala”, but very similar when worn with a wine or plummy gloss, it looks great!

    • Isabella Muse

thank ya reen checking my stash for those I’m positive I have rum raisin somewhere 😀

L’Oreal “toasted almond” is one of my all time fav lipsticks. For tan girls like me, nude lipsticks aren’t our nude and not very flattering but toasted almond is one of those lip colors that go with almost every look! 🙂

  • Genevieve

To my mind the Marsala shade is a mix of the berry colour and warm brown shades with a hint of red – a bit like russet. So I really love these lip colours as I think the nude lipstick phenomena leaves a person looking unfinished or even too sickly looking – very unflattering. I must try the L’Oreal toasted almond one. Milani has a really nice one out in Brandied Toffee. I often combine two lipsticks together to get the look I want.

  • Shiza

Hi, can you please suggest a dupe for stila’s lip pencil in marsala and pink moscato?

    • Isabella Muse

I don’t have either of those products Shiza so can’t really recommend a dupe 🙁 sorry!
