Revlon Sandstorm Ultra HD Lip Lacquer Review & Swatches
Revlon Sandstorm Ultra HD Lip Lacquer is a new, permanent shade that launched with the Revlon Floating in Love Spring 2016 Collection and happens to be a shade I love in a formula I hate. You ever have that happen? You end up loving the shade of a product but simply can’t stand the formula?
That’s Sandstorm!
Sandstorm a most popular name for Revlon as they also have a Sandstorm Super Lustrous Lipstick or Sandstorm Super Lustrous Lipgloss of the same name although the colors do differ from formula to formula. In the case of the Ultra HD Lip Lacquer shade, this is a golden nude beige with fine multicolor shimmer that’s considerably darker than the light Sandstorm Lustrious Lipgloss shade of the same name and much, much lighter than the lipstick color. For me, Sandstorm is an iconic much beloved lipstick shade and Revlon keeps recycling the name to garner interest from fans. But weirdly enough all these newer shades are nothing at all like the lipstick color.
None the less this version of Sandstorm is still delightful. It’s a beautiful nude but the formula leaves a little to be desired.
Originally, Revlon Ultra HD Lip Lacquer launched in 12 permanent shades in 2014 and it looks like Revlon will be adding two more shades to that collection with this color and another called Pink Amethyst which I reviewed earlier this month.
This comes housed in a square barrel with a pretty diamond that decorates the top. It includes a brush applicator versus a sponge which is one of the downfalls of this formula in my opinion. The formula is hybrid gloss and liquid lipstick that has the shine of a gloss and the color and pigment of a lipstick. The formula is pretty gooey and tacky but it seems Sandstorm is even worst than many of the shade I already own. I couldn’t get it smooth enough and the shade kept falling into my natural lip lines. It was quite messy and looked less than smooth unless I applied clear gloss on top. I’m trying hard to forgive the goopeyness because the color itself is quite lovely. I’ve always felt this formula might prove easier to apply and might look smoother if they included a sponge applicator versus the lip brush. I just couldn’t get Sandstorm to look good on me and application was very sloppy. The color wears for a solid four to five hours but during that wear it didn’t have an exactly perfect finish.
