Too Faced Candy Cane Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick Review & Swatches
Too Faced Candy Cane Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick ($21) is a new, limited edition red raspberry shade that launched with the Too Faced Holiday 2016 Collection. Actually when I saw the promo photo for Too Faced Melted Matte Candy Cane I felt for sure that it was a mistake. We’ve all been there, we see a promo image, purchase a product, get it in the mail, and turns out the shade is completely and utterly different from what we saw in the promo photos.
I thought that Too Faced Candy Cane Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick would be a festive red but actually is is portrayed exactly like the shade you see online in images!
I’m probably one of the few people that actually like the Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick formula and I reviewed it in detail when it originally launched with the Too Faced Spring 2016 Collection. I realize that long-lasting matte liquid lipsticks are all the rage at the moment but there are very few of these formulas I like and this was one I enjoyed using the first time I tried.
I decided I wanted to try this shade anyway! So, I ordered it up and got it a few days ago. I fear I’m a complete and utter idiot because the key selling point for me was the fact it smells and tastes like peppermint mocha or at least that’s what they promised me. Off topic, but my Too Faced Grand Hotel Cafe does NOT smell at all! I’m crushed. Aside from that, it looks promising let’s hope it proves better than the Too Faced The Chocolate Shop!
Anyway, back to Candy Cane!
This arrives in a festive, limited edition box and packaging. The outer box is festive red and pink candy cane packaging with gold accents and ribbon. The barrel is the same as the permanent shades but features a limited edition candle candy swirl top.
Apparently the formula contains avocado oil and vitamin E to keep lips moist but I actually don’t feel these are terribly hydrating! The formula is a little thinner and less velvety than traditional liquid lipsticks and it has a bit of a runnier texture but applies smoothly and evenly on my drier lips. The formula remains a “wet” for a little but sets to a matte finish at around 40 or so seconds after application. The wear is very light and I didn’t feel like it clung to drier areas! It remained smooth and even and color was intense and pigmented for 12 hours even when eating and drinking. As I said they aren’t hydrating but they aren’t terribly crazy drying either. One of the things I dislike about the formula is the fact I have to remove them with an oil-based eye and lip remover at the end of the night which makes my lips a little dry and chapped.
Candy Candy is an interesting choice for the Holidays. As you know Bare Minerals released a limited edition red, called Naughty, in their Matte Liquid Lipcolor so, I’m pretty much covered for traditional, Holiday reds with this shade. Candy Cane is a little more playful and flirty for the Holiday seasons. It’s not a traditional red but it still reminds me of the Holidays. It’s a pretty bright, red raspberry that’s very pigmented on a single application. It actually reminds me of the Pink Candy Canes my mom used to buy for me because I didn’t like peppermint ones when I was a child.
It does have a strong peppermint scent with hints of vanilla and mocha. It tastes very sweet but doesn’t have a tingly feeling due to the peppermint. It actually tastes like a very sweet vanilla to me with a little bit of mint in the background. So, not really mocha-like exactly but still pleasant if you’re ok with flavored lip products. I liked this a lot but it probably won’t make sensitive users happy.
All in all, Too Faced Candy Cane Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick was a nice purchase! I can see myself working this pretty little shade into my Holiday looks easily!
