L’Oreal Pure Sugar Purify & Unclog Face Scrub is a new pure sugar and kiwi face and lip scrub that launched along with a few new face scrubs for Spring 2018 at drugstores. As you know, L’Oreal introduced a selection of mud masks last Summer that gained quite a social following when the multimasking trend hit the skincare world. I tried a few of them such as the LOreal Pure-Clay Mask Exfoliate and Refine Pores and LOreal Pure-Clay Mask Detox & Brighten Treatment Mask. They were nice enough but I did experience some drying from some of the formulas and the fragrance plus ingredients weren’t quite right for my skin type. These new scrubs are a re-take on those formulas but where as before you left them on and rinsed them off these new formulas work more as an exfoliating treatment.

I had some skepticism about a face slash lip scrub formula in all honesty plus I had some worry about drying out my skin as physically exfoliating my face sometimes results in even drier skin than when I started out but of course, my curiosity won out and I decided to purchase L’Oreal Pure Sugar Purify & Unclog Face Scrub.

This is wonderful and I will happily purchase it again. I was shocked and delighted how well it worked out!

L’Oreal Pure Sugar Purify & Unclog Face Scrub arrives in a 1.7 oz square glass jar that holds a bright translucent green gel scrub. It’s formulated with larger kiwi seeds which do absolutely nothing and I found irritating as I was concerned I’d get one in my eye. Granted, I wasn’t using it by my eyes nor should you but as I massaged it on the seeds kept creeping up the sides of my face and onto my upper cheek area which was quite near my eye. I just felt these were unnecessary and didn’t add anything to the formula or exfoliating process.

The gel texture gives the formula a more refined finish finish which results in a less harsher scrub. It contains very fine sugar crystals that aren’t super gritty but still manage to do an excellent job of exfoliating my skin. I typically like a harsher scrub but this did just fine at removing flaky skin and smoothing my skin. I think the gel gives the formula an overall easier glide on my skin and I never felt like I was overdoing things as I gently massaged it on. It felt very gentle to me and almost like I was using a chemical treatment.

You’ll want to use it on a clean, dry face and wet your fingers before starting to massage it in. As you massage it in it doesn’t lather up or change texture. It has an easy glide across my skin and a little went a long way plus it wasn’t sticky and it washed clean away without lathering. I used it on my lips as well but it isn’t quite as good in this area as it was on my face as my lips are prone to being quite dry and cracked in the winter and a gritter, grainier lip scrub is needed to smooth all that dryness away.

I do have some concerns though as although, I love the formula some of the ingredients were questionable but thankfully lower down on the list. One thing would be it does have a fresher scent that isn’t terribly strong but sensitive users won’t be thrilled with it and no, it doesn’t smell like kiwis. It also contains linalool and limonene lower on the list of ingredients thankfully but it is still work mentioning. I do think the easy glide and softness I experienced was because it contains so much glycerin. I never felt tight or dryness after using it and in all honestly, I’d probably feel comfortable using it a few times a week versus once.

All in all, I’d definitely re-purchase this. My drier skin seems to like it and it was quite gentle.

L’Oreal Pure Sugar Purify & Unclog Face Scrub is available now at drugstores and ulta.com, walmart.com, and amazon.com.

Off topic, but related: which reminds me to scour the net for Mizon Seaweed Scrub. The usual listings are 5x the regular price, grrrr.

I think it’s a great concept, but may not work for users that have sensitive skin. I have really sensitive skin and didn’t care for this. The three samples of the Pure Clay Masks came in one of Target’s Beauty Boxes. These dried out my skin and stung.

Personally, I’d rather use bentonite clay that I can buy at a health food store, with water.

I agree completely! I think all the formulas they launched so far aren’t great for sensitive skin types! they also contain kaolin clay which causes the dryness you may be experiencing! (not this one but many of the others do).

Thanks for that info. I didn’t know that! That will help me check ingredients in packaging better 🙂

My pleasure! I’m always dumbfounded when they say it is a hydrating mask and it contains kaolin clay because it is as drying as hell for me. Makes me terribly tight and flaky!

Ooo this looks really interesting! I’ll definitely keep my eyes peeled for it for when it comes out in the UK!

I love the idea of using this all over my face in the morning, as well as on my lips. 😛

This one is nice, but the cocoa one is absolutely dreamy on drier skins. This is one of the only scrubs that leave me feeling moisturized after using it. In fact I feel like I have new skin. Best part is there are no large seeds to deal with. It is smooth with a light grit that does the job but does not irritate. My skin is not only dry, but sensitive and this doesn’t even make me the slightest bit pink.
