Makeup and Skincare I'm Really Loving

Summer’s here which means my skin is sort of freaking out. I’m typically a vampire and I try to avoid the sun as much as possible and SPF myself to death but when the warmer weather hits I’m outside a lot more and it can’t be avoided. I tend to tan easily as well even with a high level of SPF on my face plus add in air conditioner and humidity and suddenly my dry skin is doing all sorts of weird stuff like being oily one minute and super dry the next.

This all means I have to take time out and switch up my skincare as well as shades of my concealer and foundation!

Here’s some makeup and skincare I’m really loving on my face at the moment during the warmer weather.

As soon as I’m out of the shower and hitting my vanity the first thing I’m putting on my face in the morning Kanebo Allie Extra UV Gel Mineral Moist N SPF SPF 50+ PA++++ (Review). The Allie formula is a tried and true favorite for me with a lightweight cream texture that absorbs easily and doesn’t leave behind a white cast.

After my SPF I put on Clinique’s new Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly (Review). Love, love, love this stuff. It’s a little tacky at first but it absorbs super fast and leave my skin hydrated but not greasy or shiny. I’m having a severely hard time with my regular moisturizers of choice lately because they create a bit too much shine and this is perfectly lightweight with being heavy or shiny.

At the moment I’m having a big love affair with Volition Beauty and their Helix AM/PM Eye Gel (Review) is my BFF eye cream of choice. This is a thicker eye gel that really, really wears well under concealer if you have drier eyes. I can sincerely tell the difference in my eye bags, dryness, and concealer coverage when I’m wearing this vs another eye cream. It seems like it extends the wear of concealer and fills in finer lines while minimizing the look of my puffy eyes.

Speaking of awesome products from Volition Beauty, another item I’m loving on my face at the moment is their Turmeric Brightening Polish! Oh my god! This stuff is so amazing! I have a review upcoming later today of it. I pictured this a few months ago when Sephora had 15% off and I’m actually almost done with my tube and ready for a refill! This is a nice physical facial scrub that leaves my skin not only smooth but also glowing! I swear after using it my entire face takes on a healthy rosy glow! Love it! Stay tuned for my review.

Speaking of smooth skin, as you know I reviewed the CosRX Two in One Poreless Power Liquid (Review) a few months ago and it didn’t quite work out for me as I felt like it my skin drier. I started injecting it back into my skincare routine towards the middle of June and WOW it’s really working out well. I still likely won’t be able to use this come Winter but right now it’s really doing great things for my skin. I really wish I had a before and after shot my nose as that’s where I have visible pores and I swear they just disappeared. My nose is so smooth now! Not to mention my skin appears a lot smoother as well! Plus it’s really do a nice job with excess oil! As my skin has been quite shiny lately.

Speaking of CosRX, Galactomyces 95 Tone Balancing Essence has been treating me very well! This little number contains 95% galactomyces ferment filtrate that help hydrate my skin but also the entire formula seems to really restore the glow to my skin so I look a hell of a lot duller when I’m using this as part of my nightly routine!

Let’s get past the skincare though and on to some makeup!

I always really like lightweight, sheer foundation since my skin is pretty clear and I require something that brightens but not necessarily something that conceals. I like a “my skin but better” type of foundation and that’s been coming at me through Benefit’s Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation (Review) lately. I got this a few weeks ago and I have to say it’s been my best friend through my Summer travels. It’s so lightweight! It evens out my skin tone, eases dullness, and just gives my skin a beautifully fresh look! I’m really enjoy this one! If you’re not interested in committing to a new foundation you can give the mini version a try out as it’s a mere $10 bucks!

Also, it’s sort of old and I’ve been using it a while now but damn that seven buck Makeup Revolution Conceal & Define Full Coverage Conceal & Contour is ridiculously awesome. It’s a refreshing change from Tarte Shape Tape as the formula is super creamy and a heck of a lot more hydrating with excellent full coverage! I started using it a few months ago and it’s become my go for Summer since it looks a lot less dry than Shape Tape!

As for blush, the award for best Summer blush always goes to NARS Orgasm and thank god it’s available in a bigger size for Summer. If you hate it, try using a fiber brush to apply it! It’ll change your life promise!

And of course, my absolute favorite that I hope MAC brings back one day, is Sweet Vision Magic Dust Powder. Ugh this stuff is like my perfect golden coral pink blush for Summer. Ebay.com is still a fairly reliable source to score one of these on and well worth the effort because it’s such a gorgeous blush shade!

As for my lips, I’m all about Maybelline Color Sensational Shine Compulsion Lipstick (Review) all day everyday! These are so soft and melt-y with a high shine finish and beautiful color! Totally a great Summer lipstick!

Speaking of Maybelline I finally tried Molten Peach Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter (Review) and that blew my mind! Such a great peachy highlighter that gives me a beautiful Summer glow! Well worth a pick up! I liked it so much I purchased a backup!

So, that’s the makeup and skincare I’m loving on my face at the moment.

What are your Summer loves?

    Happy summer, Muse!

A big “Yes!” to the Maybelline Shine Compulsion lipsticks. Love them! My Walgreens has the “exclusive colors” and a BOGO deal right now, which makes them even nicer.

And while I know you didn’t love it, the Revlon ColorStay Full Cover foundation was a great travel foundation for me. I was on the road across the country for over three weeks, so the small plastic tube is RV-friendly and the foundation worked on my dry skin in all sorts of different weather conditions from humid and rainy to dry and dusty.

At home, my go-to summer foundation has been the PF The Healthy Foundation, but that big glass jar and doe foot are not so easy to travel with.

I will have to check out that highlighter!

Happy Summer Melissa! ;-D NICE! I might need to stop by and haul more ;-D I’m glad to hear! That’s great ;-D PF The Healthy Foundation is quite nice and loving those liquid lipsticks they did ;D

I really hope that the Walgreen’s “exclusive ” shades become part of the permanent line everywhere. Secret Blush is one of the most gorgeous lipsticks I’ve ever owned!

Some great stuff here! I currently use the Allie sunblock as well as the Anessa in the silver bottle. I’m also using the BR P400 toner, which I actually like better than P50 because it pairs better with a high Retin-A that I’m using at night. You won’t believe it, but my moisturiser is super duper heavy. Haha! It’s the Skinceuticals Triple Lipid–it’s thick, but it actually melts into the skin and leaves behind sort of a velvet matte finish; not shiny at all! If I’m not using that, then I’m using a moisturizer from Gina; it’s ultra expensive, so I use it sparingly.

For foundation, I’m pretty much using nothing. I’m testing out the new Dior Backstage, but the shades in the 0 range don’t quite match me. The warm is too peachy and the neutrals is a tad pink. That’s too bad because the finish is nice and perfected while still being extremely lightweight. That just leaves me with concealer and brightener for a base. For blush, I’m currently loving my Clinique Pop blush in melon or pansy. I guess I’ve gotten very minimal with my summer makeup. I attempted to wear a full face at Comicon San Diego last weekend and I literally just melted. Haha!

    • Isabella Muse

I use Anessa too! Have for years! One of my favs ;-D I really wanted to try out the new Dior Backstage but not convinced I like that packaging! god how did I forget about my pop blushes? You reminded me to haul those out. I’m terribly jealous! How was it? Did you get into any of the panels!? DW?

      • Christina

It was sooooo crowded this year! I swear it’s getting bigger and bigger each year! I felt like last year’s Comicon was better, though. Maybe it’s because I only had one day this time, but there were more people dressed up and it just felt more fun overall last time. I didn’t go to panels this because I was there on Thursday and everything cool was on Friday or Saturday. Not complaining, though, since I was lucky to even get in! Downtown was pretty fun, too! There were some celebrity sightings!

        • Isabella Muse

Awesome! Who did you see!? ITA! I think since it’s become more “hollywood” and a launch pad for movies/shows that it loss some of the appeal as these things bring in MASSIVE crowds. Plus the new lottery ticket thing really makes it random whether you’ll be able to go or not 🙁 My BF went and I was a bit jealous but I thought about it and I was like, Ok you’ll be miserable waiting on huge lines and camping out for panels so you aren’t missing much or at least I told myself that ;-D

          • Christina

One of the actors from Grey’s Anatomy who voices the Lara Croft game was there. My sister saw others, but I swear I can’t recognize anyone in real life unless someone pointed them out to me. I live under a rock–actually, it’s because I’m too absorbed in Asian dramas right now.

The lottery sucks for sure. Past attendees are supposed to have a higher chance of getting in, but I didn’t get selected during returning registration and had to go through the normal one. Luck had it that I got in, so I took my sister and her BF for the first time (poor hubby had to stay home). She was totally taken aback by the long lines and thought it wasn’t worth it to pay all this money just to wait in line and find out things are sold out or you didn’t get into a panel. At the end of the day, though, you realize it’s still pretty cool to get to experience. LOL!

          • Isabella Muse

Oh wow! Camilla Luddington! I didn’t even know she was British until Rise of the Tomb Raider launched and even after that I thought she was doing a fake Brit accent ;-D Haha what are you currently watching? I’m binging 11/22 finally on Hulu so I haven’t been up on my dramas lately. I totally get how she felt. I think years ago it was a better experience! I think your sis is right on some levels. It feels like things she be better timed and for the price of the ticket you should get into the panels you want. But yeah, the experience is well worth it ;-D I was confused I thought it was two weeks ago and I was like wait, it was last week! Duh! I’m glad you went and enjoyed it! It’s nice just be surrounded by your fellow geeks!

  • Lucia Vallejo

Your makeup looks so pretty and I love your lipstick. Is that the new Maybelline Shine Compulsion Lipstick and if so what is the color! Thanks for sharing your favs for summer. One of my favs is It Cosmetics Bye Bye Under Eye Anti-Age Concealer for concealing and even foundation. Have you seen the new Revlon Matte is Everything lip collection exclusively at Walgreens? I picked up Audacious Mauve a few weeks ago and love the color. You should check out the colors; Revlon has improved the matte formula and so much smoother.

    • Isabella Muse

thanks!!!!!!!!!! No, that was the sweet vision blush. The lipstick is one of the Kat Von D’s Holiday Studded Lipsticks. 🙂 If you click the link I have a review and photos of the Maybelline lipsticks nad me wearing those. if that helps! 🙂 I haven’t seen that! Gotta check it out thanks for the color rec ;-D

  • Brandy

I’m glad you like the new Clinique jelly. It’s cheaper than the Clinique Moisture Surge concentrate that I’m almost out of so I’m going to try the jelly next. That Maybelline highlighter shade looks gorgeous and I really want it, but I have literally a million budget highlighters. My favs are the Wet n Wild Megaglo and Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked highlighters.

    • Isabella Muse

let me know what you think Brandy ;-D I liked it! I really liked the Flights of Fancy Highlighters from WnW those were really lovely ;D
