Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick Review & Swatches

Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick ($7.49 or Buy 1, Get 1 50% Off at Ulta) is a new collection of universal lipstick shades that was created to compliment a wide array of skin tones. Available in seven shades these lipstick colors were created with specially selected pigmented and tested over 50 different skin tones to be universally flattering. I think we all sort of cringe whenever the makeup world throws “universally flattering” at us. I’m of the mentality that you should wear whatever shades you like to wear but I’m also logically when it comes to certain nude lipstick shades I can’t pull off or certain eyeshadows that are too dark and make me look tired.

I like that Maybelline created these shades but I’m unsure if they are perfect for all skin tones. I personally have a hard time figuring out what shade compliments my own skin tone and never would feel like I have enough knowledge to recommend a shade for someone with a different tone than my own. That being said, I can speak from my own experience with the shades I purchased and I have to say I was pretty pleased with them and can see myself buying more. They just worked for me and I loved that and have hopes that other skin tones can say the same thing!

I tend to have a love hate relationship with the Maybelline Color Sensation Lipstick Collection. I like the shades but some of the formulas and finishes aren’t always to my liking! That being said I can safely say I really likeed the Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick formula and finish!

These come in a square barrel featuring a I rather elegant cap that has a tiny Maybelline New York print on the side. I’ve always been a fan of the Sensational packaging but these are particularly nice! They are sort of non-descriptive and simple yet quite pretty at the same time. Each lipstick is 0.15 oz each and will set you back $5.50 to $7.50 depending where you purchase them.

I got two of the seven shades which were Pink for Me and Mauve for Me. Ironically Mauve for Me isn’t mauve but Pink for Me is…! Not sure what happened there with the shade names but yeah, that seems wrong. None the less both shades worked incredibly well for me. These seem like the perfect nudes even though they aren’t conventional nude shades. Both were my lips but better shades that looked quite great on my lips.

Apparently Maybelline says the finishes are mattes and satins but it looks like I ended up with both satins! However, they aren’t a traditional satin as the texture had a nice creaminess and the finish had a hint of a shine to it. The creaminess of the formula made application very easy on my dry lips and the color had a smooth look with a lightly hydrating feel with a wear of about five hours without migration of feathering issues. Like all the Color Sensational Lipstick these do have a faint Play-doh like flavor that disappears quickly enough after application.

All in all, the Maybelline Color Sensational Made For All Lipstick is quite delightful and I’d like to explore more of the shades as the two I did get were very flattering. I’d love to see them expand on this collection with more shade options in the future.
