Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream ($7.99) are a new range of soft, butter lip balms with an SPF 15 that launched in 12 shade selections for Spring 2019 at the drugstore.

I was pretty excited to find Murumuru Butter Lip Cream at my local Harmons in a few shades. The entire shade range isn’t quite available in stores yet though but as soon as they do fully launch I’ll be hauling a few more shades considering how much I love them. At the moment Physicians Formula has these available on their site which is an outlet they’ve been using for the past several months to launch new products. It does seem to take a bit longer for their newer products to pop into stores as they appear to be cutting out the middleman (the drugstore) in favor of generating traffic and sales to their own freshly launched website. This makes it challenging to find any of their new items in stores which I find a bit irritating since I’m Miss Frugal Gourmet when it comes to paying for shipping.

None the less, I guess I got lucky because these were at Harmon’s and I snatched up the shades they had available.

Here’s my thoughts, review, and swatches of the new Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream!

Well, well, aren’t these a pleasant surprise? I know the entire makeup world loves Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Blush but I’m not sorry for not liking it. I tried it when it launched and haven’t tried it since as it did nothing for me! Maybe the formula is somehow better now? Maybe the newer shades are nicer? I dunno but I didn’t like them when I tried them on the original launch.

Since these new lip creams are inspired by that formula I sort of had this prejudice towards them from the get go and I was expecting to hate them but they are just delightful! They bring back my fondness for Almay Smart Shade Butter Kiss Lipstick and Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter but in a way softer, creamier formula.

Physicians Formula packages these in a simple palm decorated barrel with a clear cap. Each lip cream contains 0.15 oz of product and will set you back $6-$8 each shade. I paid $6.79 at Harmons but I imagine they’ll be closed to $8 at stores like CVS and Walgreens.

I’ve read a few reviews on these already and I’ve also watched a few and no one mentions any faulty packaging but all five my of shades did have some weird packaging issues. First off, four out of my five shades wouldn’t swivel down. Well, actually, they did swivel down but they’d proceed to slowly pop back up after I swiveled them down. Thankfully enough it wasn’t too big an issue since I had plenty of room to replace the cap without squishing the head of the lip cream but it was an annoying issue I couldn’t get them to swivel back down once I swiveled them up. Secondly, they are a bit like Tare’s Rainforest of the Sea Drench Lip Splash Lipstick in the fact they are super melt-y! I think it’s safe to say you aren’t going to want to travel with these in your makeup bag in the Summer. The formula is very, very soft and melt-y! I felt some shades got ruined because I pressed too hard during application and chunks of the tip sort of melted off as I applied. I have steam heat in my house (I live in an old Victorian house) so, perhaps my makeup room was a little to warm for these guys? I’m not sure but they seem very, very soft to me.

That being said, I loved them.

They have a very light coconut fragrance and flavor which I found very pleasant and a creamy, buttery texture that glided onto lips like liquid butter. They pack super pigment and provide incredible opaque color on a single application which I didn’t expect from something that looked like a lip balm. They feel very moisturizing on my drier lips and have a smooth look with a shiny finish and a long wear of around four hours without migration or feathering issues. All the shades I purchased were incredibly flattering as well! The nudes are simply gorgeous!

I did have some issues with packaging but all in all, the formula was very luxurious and beautifully formulated! Very soft, glided onto my lips easily, produced a very nice shiny look with plenty of color, plus they wore as long as a lipstick!

Physicians Formula did an excellent job with these and I’m sure you’ll be hearing plenty of raves in the next several weeks about them from other bloggers and influencers.

I’m Muse Approving them!

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream are starting to launch now at drugstores and will be available soon online.

Ulta

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream are a new range of creamy, buttery, pigmented lip creams. As per the name they are in fact a butter cream and not a lip balm formula. I thought the formula was very soft, creamy, and butter with excellent pigmentation, a super moisturizing formula, and a beautiful long wear that added both shine and gorgeous color to my lips. Physicians Formula launched them in 12 shade selections and even went so far as to include an SPF 15 in the mix!

Pros

  • Pigmented, creamy, buttery, moisturizing formula.
  • Fairly inexpensive.
  • A great range of shades for the brand (12 total) which typically only releases their products in two or three shades.

Cons

  • Faulty packaging that doesn’t allow the lip cream to swivel completely down.
  • Very soft and melty which causes some breakage issues!

Who

Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Lip Cream should be a treat for anyone who likes a lip balm that really goes that extra mile. Ideal for anyone with drier lips that wants color and plenty of moisture!

Wow these look fantastic! Finally excited for something. I love their Murumuru Butter bronzer so I was curious to see how these would perform. I am shocked they are opaque as well. Can’t wait to find these in store. I’m with you: hate ordering online something new because one, I want to see the shade in person and two, I hate to pay for shipping too. I understand they have an eyeshadow palette (or palettes) of the Murumuru Butter formula coming out. I hope those perform well too.

    • Isabella Muse

I hate ordering drugstore makeup online for some reason I find it annoying! There’s always a shipping threshold on most of the sites and it bugs me silly ;-D these are quite lovely! I hope you find them in stores. Yup, there are two eyeshadow palettes as well! gonna review those shortly!

  • Linda Whitener

I’m so glad these are Muse-Approved…because curiosity got the better of me and I ordered some earlier this week!

      • Linda Whitener

You were so right, Muse – I loved ’em! Creamy, moisturizing, gorgeous colors that don’t migrate…what more could I ask? I wish PF would keep these in the product line forever.

        • Isabella Muse

Yay! Happy to hear it! Did you have any probs with the packaging?

          • Linda Whitener

They don’t completely retract, as you mentioned – but as long as I exercise just a little caution replacing the cap, it’s not a problem. For me, the moisturizing formula and gorgeous colors more than make up for it…after a couple of years getting inundated with matte lipsticks (which look hideous on a boomer like me), I’m just grateful to get my hands on these!

          • Isabella Muse

ok good bc I thought mine was faulty or something ;-D I def agree! I can deal with this thanks to the great formula ;D!

  • Cheshire Kitten

I only have the Butter Blush in one of their newer shades, Vintage Rouge, and I like it – gives me a nice, in from the cold kind of flush. I didnt get either of the original shades because I knew they wouldn’t show up!

  • Ale

I am so happy to see moisturizing lipsticks making a comeback! I have been really enjoying Brazilian Sunset, it is the perfect pop of color to brighten up winter days, and the SPF and extra creamy formula are a big plus.

  • Shannon

Thank you for the review as I have not seen these yet! I read your bio and think you are lovely and I am sure your shadow is blended beautifully

  • Lori

I’m standing in Bed Bath & Beyond (it’s one with the little Harmon’s corner in it) looking at all the new Physicians Formula stuff…decided to Google for swatches and here I am I’m getting Soaking Up the Sun and Brazilian Nut!

    • Isabella Muse

yay enjoy Lori let me know what you think after you’ve tried them!

  • Adrienne

FYI-Physicians Formula is on sale BOGO Free at Rite Aid. Brazilian Nut and Acai Berry were gone and those were the only two I wanted. I can’t remember the price for them. Large eyeshadow palettes were $16.99. High for drug store but I picked them up because of the sale.

  • Dee

I love them! Just got two shades and they are wonderful hydration and color wise. I agree they may not be the best choice when warm temps hit, but I love them now.

    • Isabella Muse

Ditto! ;-D Agreed! Might be a bit too melty for the warm weather but right now my winter lips love them!

  • Haley

You should take your photos without flash in natural light or daylight balanced light, it’s hard to accurately see the color ☺

  • Cassie

I listened to you and grabbed one of these (“Samba Red”) and you were right, they are AWESOME”great call! However, I forgot what you had said about it being as buttery-soft as it was when I first tried it on, and did just a little bit of the tip-smush myself”I even said out loud to myself afterward, “Isabella WARNED us!” Ha, ha. Regardless, I like pretty much everything about it (…though the balm has a hard time rolling completely back into the barrel like you said, too…), and I’d like to pick up a couple/few more.

    • Isabella Muse

yay! I’m glad you like them and I’m sort of relieved you experienced the same issues! Sometimes I’ll watch or read a review and no one mentions these things and I feel rather alone in nitpicking the faults apart haha! So it’s kind of nice when someone is like, “oh yeah, totally happened to me too!” But all the faults I’d totally pick up a few more too ;-D

  • ashley myers

Bought brazilian nut last night. I love it! Can’t wait to go get more shades! Two of the shades were already sold out. I had problems with it not wanting to go down too. This has Allure best of beauty cheap thrills written all over it.

  • LC Brooks

Thanks for the review! Would you say that the lightest color – Soaking Up the Sun smoothes over dry patches or makes them more obvious? I have pretty pigmented lips and light colors tend to emphasize lines/dryness. That color looks so lovely!
    Cheers! LC

    • Isabella Muse

My pleasure! Not at all! I am prone to dry, flaky lips and it had a very smooth finish! These have a melty texture so they tend to look smoother on my lips due to that! ;-D

I purchased Mauvin’ To Brazil. I love the lipstick but after awhile it turns my lips blue. It stains them and I can’t even rub it off. My coworker tried it and she didn’t have the blue reaction as I did. Am I the only one that this has happened too.

      • Brandy

I know this is old but I just recently bought the shade Mauvin’ To Brazil and a few minutes after applying my lips had ink like blue streaks on them. I looked up the reviews of these on Ulta and other people have complained about this as well with this particular shade. Idk what is causing the blue as there’s no blue on the lip butter before I apply. Seems to be a weird chemical reaction. I hope Physicians Formula pulls this shade from stores and reformulates it because it is a pretty shade before the blue shows up. Just wanted to warn others about this so you don’t waste your money.

  • Joan hunter

Just bought physician formula murumuru butter lip gloss. I’m a little nervous cause now I’m hearing about blue lips! Have you experienced this?
