5 stars out of 5

Givenchy Le Rouge Lunar New Year Edition ($40) is a limited edition packaged red lipstick (Shade: 325 Rouge Fetiche) that launched in celebration of the Chinese New Year 2019. Givenchy and a few select higher-end brands have always paid tribute to the Lunar Year by releasing smaller makeup collections that typically include a red lipstick. Because how can you celebrate the Lunar Year without a lucky red lipstick right? 🙂

I’ve collected quite a few of Givenchy’s Lunar releases but never reviewed them however, recently I asked for your feedback about what you’d like to see at Musings of a Muse and many of you had asked for luxury makeup reviews so here we are!

Let’s take a look at the Givenchy Le Rouge Lunar New Year Edition.

One thing to keep in mind is that this shade is part of the permanent Le Rouge Collection. If you do have a few of Givenchy’s Le Rouge Lipsticks you might want to double check before buying the Lunar New Year Edition as the packaging is limited edition but not the shade.

Speaking of packaging this comes in a red leather covered case with silver accents and a gorgeous cherry blossom design. It’s a stunning presentation for the lipstick and the case/cap is reusable should you want to refill it with another shade.

This isn’t quite a traditional red but more of an orange-red that felt cooler to me. The lipstick finish is described as matte but looks has a hint of shine on lips with a gorgeous, hydrating glide during application! It takes little effort to apply it as the formula glides on practically by itself. It’s buttery, slightly balmy, lightly creamy with a moisturizing feel on my drier lips. It does have a subtle perfume flavor/fragrance that I found pleasant but might be an issue for sensitive users.

The shade isn’t quite as pigmented as one would expect as there’s a certain sheerness to it but it still accents lips with a very bold shot of cool red. It wore for about six hours on me and was quite moisturizing without feathering or migrating.

Givenchy Le Rouge Lunar New Year Edition is a delightful addition to anyone’s lipstick collection not to mention a great way to celebrate the Lunar Year!

Where to buy

Sephora Neiman Marcus Givenchy Saks

Givenchy Le Rouge Lunar New Year Edition is $40 and 0.12 oz in size that’s available for a limited time to celebrate the Chinese New Year. The lipstick’s packaging is limited edition however, the shade is not as it is part of Givenchy’s permanent collection of shades. This is a delightful cooler red with an orange undertone. The formula has a slick creamy texture with a slight shine finish that wore for six hours on my lips without feathering or migrating and felt very hydrating.

Pros

  • Beautiful cherry blossom packaging.
  • Shiny, moisturizing finish!
  • Not a traditional red but a beautiful one!
  • Not a limited edition shade which means you can easily repurchase and refill this case!

Cons

  • Could be confusing if you purchase and expect a new shade as you might already own it!

Who

Givenchy Le Rouge Lunar New Year Edition is an ideal pick for those that collect the brand’s limited edition barrels or for those that love a high-end luxurious lipstick! This formula brings it!

What a beautiful shade of red and the packaging is sooo gorgeous, but in the past I’ve had a problem with Givenchy’s lipstick caps falling off in my bag. I don’t know if I just wound up with a bad one, but I wish it had a magnet, like NARS lipstick.

This color looks great on you! You always nail a red lip IMO no matter the shade/tone. I’m jealous. I want to be the badass quirky chic that wears red lip stick to work every day and out And about as like my signature because they’re always so gorgeous on everyone and I can’t seem to pull it off. I’m always self conscious since I don’t do it often. What are your top 5 for red lipsticks?!
