Tarte, When All Else Fails Look to Korea for Inspiration!

Tarte is busy channeling Korean brand, Labiotte, today with a new Wine Not Lipgloss & Brush Set and Rose is Bae Lipgloss & Brush Set (please stop with these horrible makeup brushes) for Spring 2019.

Tarte, Tarte, Tarte y u do this to yourself? I mean, Labiotte is sort of cute but you guys are trying a little too hard. You see, you might have just had me on the cute wine bottle shaped lipgloss but you KILLED things with the glass shaped brush! Don’t you understand no one likes these brushes!? They are awkward to use and cumbersome to store. Not everyone wants to have a set of brushes that we can take photos of and post on Instagram. We actually want to buy a brush we can like use on our face to apply makeup and stuff. Weren’t the flamingo brushes enough!?

Ok, I’ll stop ranting!

These two new sets do have a Labiotte vibe. If you’re familiar with Labiotte you know they have some rather cute wine bottle and goblet packaging. Seems like Tarte took a little inspiration from them! I think Labiotte does a little bit of a better job though packaging wise. Their version is cute where as Tarte’s feels a little too try hard.

Anyway, these two new Tarte “Wine” themed sets are available now.

Do you think you’d buy them?

Jump ahead for the deets on the sets!

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. But she’s passionate about makeup and is seeking like-minded individuals that like pina coladas, getting caught in the rain, and ones that enjoy spending hundreds of dollars at Sephora without feeling buyer’s remorse. I’m sorry but this is out and out tacky. AF.
    I’m embarrassed for Tarte.

I agree. I don’t mean to be a snark but I totally agree. It’s just dumb. Sorry.

My thoughts exactly…… between Tarte & Too Faced, it looks like my options for makeup brands are shrinking by the minute. Lately both have had weird and useless collections.

  • Dee

I have a few Tarte brushes that I love and use on a regular basis, but these are just not practical. Same with the lip products.

  • Maria

Muse, I really laughed so hard on this one. What happened to normal shaped brushes ? This new Tart e set is just ridiculous.

  • Serena Kay

That brush would be so cute if it didnt have the wine glass stem on it!

  • Chelsey

I just don’t understand tarte! I love the tarteist palettes. And I will keep repurchasing as the In Bloom is my go to. However, I haven’t had any desire to purchase their new collections. I’ll stick with the in bloom and the rainforest of the sea palettes and that’s it. This new trend of insane brushes is impractical and a waste of money.

No way, Jose. Didn’t they learn anything, from their fishtails, unicorns, and flamingoes going straight to remainder, and having clones available at dollar stores? Have to admit to undying and unsatisfied curiosity about the Labiottes, though. Figure i’m duped enough. The thing about Tarte is that the brushes seem like caricatures, and not fxnl in the least. Do Asian Kose cos come out with this dreck? The other thing is that this kind of puerile crap takes away from Tarte’s recent advances on the more color front. Boo, Tarte.

  • Christina

Ahh, no. It looks cheap and tacky. I’ll stick with the Labiotte because at least the packaging on those look like little wine bottles. I’m not sure what Tarte is doing…

I don’t understand why sometimes tarte hits it out of the park and other times pulls a Too Faced. It’s almost like they’re trying to cast the widest net for the largest profit margin; it’s almost like each collection has a different target audience. For example, tarte speaks to me with their Rainforest of the Sea collection but that’s about it.

BTW, Labiotte revolves their entire brand around the wine antioxidant/resveratrol as a brand concept and does it much classier, IMO. tarte must be making money off their crazy brushes or they wouldn’t keep putting them out there, would they?? I bought one once, an eye brush with the first RotS palette, and it was such a poor quality brush I never made i work and ended up tossing it. I was a little frustrated at that waste of money.

Uuuuuugghhh Tarte is one of my favorite brands but when they do this silly stuff it just makes me cringe. I love the tartelette palettes, the pro line, shape tape, lip quenches but these gimmicky things are totally turning me off.

  • Nicole

I really don’t love the look of these products. I like classy packagings, no bottles and whatnot. I also really don’t appreciate the copying. Not cool Tarte!

  • Zoe

I actually ended up buying the Rosé is Bae set because I thought it would look cute on my vanity, but the lip gloss is so sheer that it doesn’t really have a purpose and the brush doesn’t pick up any product. honestly, not worth the $25 (and $6 shipping ).
