YSL All Hours Concealer ($34) is a new 16 hour-wear, full-coverage concealer that launched several months ago which I’ve had on my wish list for a while but kept forgetting to purchase. Since Sephora has 20% Off at the moment now was a good time as any to finally purchase this.

It’s formulated to not only hide dark circles, bags, finer lines, etc…but also promises a long-wearing with a creamy matte finish. The matte finish did concern me but lately the makeup world is filled with matte finish concealers that are actually quite hydrating and not dry looking. Matte really isn’t what it used to be and the beauty world has made vast improvements on the finish across a variety of formulas from eyeshadow to concealer and beyond…!

Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Concealer Perfect in almost every way but it falls victim to a problem that plagues many concealers like this.

It’s too sheer.

It’s actually marketed as a 16 hour-wear, full coverage concealer and the wear isn’t an issue but full coverage? No way. Not even close. I find fluid formulas like this and ones that are creamy and hydrating end up being perfect in terms of texture but fail miserably in the coverage department. I guess you can’t have something loaded with pigment and also, have a lightweight, creamy texture to go along with it. Seems an impossible situation. I recently purchased the new Jeffree Star Magic Star Concealer and is beyond brilliant. Creamy, hydrating, blends like a dream, but it just doesn’t provide the coverage I want and need under my eyes.

Likewise for YSL’s All Hours Concealer.

This formula is divine. It’s lightly creamy with a fluid-like texture that blends like an absolutely dream. They say it has a matte finish but honestly, it feels very hydrating and sets to a light satiny finish. I was very, very impressed with the texture. It just feels amazing and it blends like butter! It’s really difficult to find a concealer with a nice hydrating base but this is quite lovely under my dry eyes and doesn’t crease or fall into those lines. It has a nice brightening look under my eyes without being pasty or chalky and the coverage does seem to last quite long and sort of blends and moves with your skin which means it doesn’t settle into finer lines if you have them or cake up under eyes.

However, the pigment leaves a lot to be desired. Sigh. This is such a common issue for lightweight, hydrating concealers. I always think I’ve found the perfect concealer formula that’s hydrating, light, and easy to blend only it almost always lacks pigmentation.

The goods news is YSL All Hours Concealer is great for days I don’t require a ton of coverage or want a more natural look. It’s also fab for anyone that really goes minimal with concealer and just needs something to brighten your under eye area up. It’s unfortunately not ideal if you have dark circles, puffiness, or other under eye issues to conceal.

Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Concealer is beautifully formulated and perfect in almost every way but really lacks the most important aspect of any good concealer, pigment.

Where to buy

Sephora Nordstrom

Yves Saint Laurent All Hours Concealer Perfect is $34, 0.17 oz, and available in 12 shade selections. YSL markets it as a full-coverage concealer that’s matte in finish and wears for 16 hours. I thought the formula was lightly hydrating with a satiny finish that didn’t crease or fade for about seven hours on my drier eyes. It blends beautifully and the texture is delightful with a creamy fluid feel that applies like butter. I was very happy with the overall performance of the concealer and formula. It brightens the eye area up beautifully and it applies quite easily however, it’s major downfall was the lack of pigment. It’s quite sheer and is no way a full-coverage concealer as promised by the brand.

Pros

  • Beautiful texture that blends easily and has a light, hydrating feel.
  • Doesn’t crease, cake, or settle into finer lines.
  • Looks and feels very natural.
  • Brightens up the eye area nicely.

Cons

  • Lacks pigment and doesn’t provide coverage for dark circles, puffiness, finer lines, or tired looking eyes.
  • Expensive.

This product is definitely not strong enough for my under-eye issues!! Also, I just wanted to tell you how much I love that you summarize your reviews with a pros/cons section at the end. It is so helpful. 🙂

oh thank you! I’m so glad you found it helpful! ;-D I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE this formula but it’s such a shame it lacks pigment!

This can go on the TBYB list for Nov. been flunking concealer purchase 6.0 recently. Glasses go a long ways towards in mitigating the need for opacity.

    Muse….
So is there actually a good concealer to buy from the Sephora sale for a girl in her 50s???? Should I try the Nars one??? Any advice would be appreciated!!!

I wonder if combining two YSL concealers will give the best results. This new one with YSL’s small brush applicator concealer for enough pigmentation.

Felt the same way about this concealer! I was hoping it would be a better option than my shape tape, but sadly I’m still a shape tape (or MAC pro longwear) girl. I also found the shade range lacking.

AGREED! Great formula for me but pigment lacking! Back to Shape Tape!

Thank goodness that I’m not the only one who thinks that this product doesn’t provide enough cover. I’ve used it multiple times to see if it will improve, even with YSL all hours foundation but it always felt short. Real shame.
