It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer+ ($39) is a new hydrating gel primer that promises to moisturize skin all day while “gripping” makeup so it wears long and strong. This is my dream facial primer! It’s so so hydrating! As someone with drier skin it is absolute perfection!

But..

It has a few minor issues!

You can see my review and thoughts below!

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer is an oil-free facial primer that does contain silicones. It’s $39, arrives in a squeeze tube, and it’s 1 oz in size. I purchased it the day it launched and soon after It Cosmetics sent me a sample which was great as I don’t mind having a backup of this.

First off, THIS IS NO GOOD for my skin right now. Although, they do market it for all skin types I think it is best for drier skin. Right now my skin is a bit on the oily side and this makes me feel rather greasy and oily in the warmer weather. This will be perfect in the Winter when my skin is dry as hell. The main formula is a combination of water and glycerin as well as Dimethicone as well as Propanediol which actually helps the primer to absorb quickly into the skin. Thankfully enough, this formula contains no alcohol.

The texture is a gel-like consistency that has a silicone-like texture which absorbs very, very quickly however, it does leave skin a bit dewy to the touch for a few seconds after application which means you might want to wait until it sets and dries down before applying foundation. It’s super hydrating! It really provides dramatic moisture and does leave skin feel very smooth and fresh. To me, it gives me that look and feel of having just washed my face. It’s just really refreshing and makes my skin look brighter and happier. Moisture will do for ya!

I’ve tried this for about two weeks now and here’s how things go with it.

First off, the weather has been weird but it worked in my favor because I got to use the primer in both warmer and cooler weather. My first week using this the weather was cooler and I got on great with this. The second week I used it the weather was warmer but this formula made me oily. I felt like my chin and down the sides of my face had excess oil plus I looked shiny. I did feel at this point my foundation faded quickly. That oiliness seemed to contribute to my foundation disappearing fast. That’s why I feel like this would be ideal for my Winter routine.

Now, I do think that “Makeup-gripping” promise was a little farfetched for me. I actually didn’t feel like this extended the wear of my foundation if anything it almost felt like it made my foundation fade a little faster whether it was warmer or cooler outside. It does provide a very hydrating base for foundation though which makes foundation looks smoother on my skin. The fact it contains some silicone might mean that it’ll make your skin appear smoother as well if you have visible pores.

So, I love this but it does have some hiccups! It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer is worth a try out for those of us with oily skin but don’t expect it to keep your foundation in place for a longer amount of time.

Where to buy

Sephora

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better Makeup Primer is a new “makeup gripping” facial primer. I didn’t feel this extended the wear of my foundation but it is very, very moisturizing which makes it a great base for matte foundations or for anyone with drier skin. Although, it is recommended for all skin types I do believe it’ll work best on drier skin as it felt very oily and greasy on my skin during the warmer weather! It’ll definitely be a best friend and comfort in the cold weather and winter!

I returned mine. I didn’t have an increase in wear time nor did I notice any blurring. It didn’t make my skin oily or particularly shiny. I just thought, for me, it wasn’t worth it. But, everyone’s skin is different.

Can you wear this alone I guess is what I was wanting to know. It’s still early. My mind isn’t fully engaged yet. For the IT Primer.
