Neutrogena Sheer Smooch Lip Oil ($7.37) is a new lip oil that contains Vitamin E, Camellia Seed Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil and Jojoba Oil. It’s been my mission to try and and all lip oils since Milani introduced Lock Oil Infused Lip Treatment a few years ago. I just love the idea of a hydrating lip oil since I’m prone to drier lips. But I haven’t quite found an holy grail one as of yet so, I keep trying out new ones as they launch.

Neutrogena released a few new products exclusively Walmart items and Sheer Smooch Lip Oil is one of those items. It’s available in four shades and each one will set you back seven bucks and some change. I’d like to throw it out there and say that’s crazy expensive for this product due to lack of pigment and formula issues.

Thankfully enough, I’m your favorite guinea pig and I took the plunge for you. Now you can safely save your seven bucks because this is a pretty disappointing formula.

Ok, so here’s what they promise! Sheer hint of color, high-impact shine, and hydration. You get none of those things. I purchased the shade I’m Blushing which appeared to be a coral if the packaging was anything to go by but it applies pretty much clear on my lips. Ok, fair enough! I won’t judge on lack of pigment because there are a few lip oils out there and promise the same with little to no pigment.

The formula is a gel-like consistency and it feels very comfortable on my lips! No stickiness, no tackiness, just a lightweight gel-like texture that feels lightly hydrating. The formula won’t win any major awards for hydration but through the short hour wear you get a nice bit of moisture for about 20 minutes or so into the wear. The high-impact shine isn’t quite there either! It’s a pretty standard, natural hint of shine but nothing too dramatic which was disappointing when you’re tossing “high-impact shine” descriptions around.

Ok, so far, not so great. The good news is the formula doesn’t contain fragrance nor flavor so sensitive users can rejoice!

Here’s my issue! I actually pack this in my makeup bag and I reach for it often. It provides a hint of shine and a nice hydrating feel. But it wears shorter, contains no pigment, and does lack the the super glossy shine they promise. However, for quickie moisture on the go it does the trick! But sadly, I felt like the price was way too high for what you get! If they marked this down to $3.99 I might consider a repurchase but near $8 thanks but no thanks!

Neutrogena Sheer Smooch Lip Oil is 0.18 in size, $7.37, and available in four shade selections. This formula promises a hint of color, high-impact shine, and moisture. I felt it lacks much of what it promises. It provides no tint, the hydration is lighter and felt pleasant enough but the formula wears for about an hour at best before disappearing. As for the “high-impact shine” I felt like it did provide some shine but nothing dramatic. It’s a nice one and done product to give lips a little bit of moisture and shine on the go but all in all, it promises more than it delivers.

Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate, Octyldodecanol, Dextrin Palmitate/Ethylhexanoate, Diisostearyl Malate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dehydroacetic Acid, Red 33 Lake (CI 17200), Polyglyceryl-2 Triisostearate, Red 27 (CI 45410), Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil

Pros

  • Comfortable formula that isn’t tacky nor sticky.
  • Nice one and done product to put in your makeup bag for a bit of shine and moisture but does wear for a very short time.

Cons

  • Short wear, needs to be reapplied often.
  • No pigment or tint.
  • Subtle shine nothing “high-impact” as promised.
  • Expensive at nearly $8.

Who

Neutrogena Sheer Smooch Lip Oil is a nice pick for lightweight moisture if you don’t mind the shorter wear, lack of tint and shine.

Muse, have you tried the Chapstick lip oils yet? They are really my favorite as far as lip oils go. There is pigmentation although you do need to reapply often.

OMG you just saved me from wasting $8. I love a good sheer but $8 for short wear and zero color payoff would make me so angry -_- Thanks!
