Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer ($11.99) is a new concealer that launched in 12 shade selections with a formula that promises to “instantly” wipe out dark circles courtesy the full-coverage formula.

I was pretty excited to try this formula because I’m a concealer junkie as you know but also, because they were promising full-coverage with a long wear! Yes, please. I don’t need a ton of foundation on my face as my skin is fairly smooth and blemish-free. But concealer? I need tons of it. I’m prone to puffy, baggy eyes and as I get older it seems like it gets worst not to mention lately I feel like my eyes look a bit sunken in. I rely on concealer to conceal these issues and brighten up the area so I appear more rested. I’ve been using Tarte Shape Tape since it launched and it is my go to however, I feel like the formula changed so, between that feeling and the fact I never have problems cheating on my HG products I decided to try out Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer.

And I have mixed feelings.

Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer is available in 12 shade selections as I stated above and weights in at 0.23 oz with a price range of $11.99 to $9.99 depending where you purchase it. There’s already a Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Concealer + Corrector available which is 0.25 oz and around $8 to $9 which is considerably different in finish and color pay off. All these products that are named the same can be very confusing for a consumer I think so, I do like to mention how the products compare in price, formula, and size.

Maybelline SuperStay Better Skin Concealer + Corrector is creamier with a thinner formula and a satiny finish. I do think it is marketed as more of a facial concealer as it contains contains something called Actyl-C, an ingredient known for its antioxidant benefits. Apparently the ingredient energizes skin so it looks renewed and healthier with continued use. Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer provides a bit more coverage, the same thinner yet creamier formula, and is matte in finish.

This comes housed in great packaging. It’s a tube packaging which has an attached wand and sponge tipped applicator for application. It’s a little deceiving with the squeeze tube as I guess people would assume it’s a bring your own brush situation but it actually has a removable wand with an attached sponge to easily apply. I like this packaging because as you near the end of it you can easily squeeze the last of it which isn’t as easy with a barrel concealer!

I purchased three of the twelve shades to try out and ended up settling on Medium 25 as I’m a bit tanned at the moment. Yup, I SPF myself to death, avoid the sun like a vampire, but I can just walk to my car in the morning and get a tan. I tan pretty easy.

So, I have a love/hate relationship with this concealer. I actually urge you to try it if you have oily skin as you might love it. Those of us that are a bit older and a bit drier might experience some issues especially if you have heavier lines under your eyes. So far, I have finer lines but nothing too dramatic. I think it actually hates my eye cream a bit. I tend to go heavy with eye cream in the AM to make my concealer apply smoother but this catches and separates if I use too much eye cream. I suggest going lighter with your eye cream when using this.

On some levels, I felt like it had a lightly whipped texture that was light and creamy. But I think I’m imagining the whipped texture maybe! It spreads easily but during the blending process it can be a bit of a pain. It’s creamy but for some reason it blends a little gets patchy. I chalked up the patchiness to my eye cream as if you use my suggestion above to go lighter with your eye cream application it does feel like the blending is a bit more smoother.

It is pretty correcting as once I applied and blended it felt like my eyes looked brighter. The coverage is matte in finish and it did feel a bit drying and sadly, after some wear (around an hour in) it did fall into my natural lines a bit. To prevent the creasing I dusted a tiny bit of Hard Candy Sheer Envy Bake, Brighten & Set Loose Finishing Powder under my eyes to set and this prevented the creasing a bit.

I think the promise if full-coverage may be misleading as at best it provides almost medium coverage. The marketed 24 hour wear is mostly false as I got about six hours in before it did seem to fade away even when set with powder. The coverage was enough to conceal puffiness and to brighten up my eye area. It may not be able to conceal really dark circles but it should color correct minor ones easily enough!

So, yeah, as you can see it did have faults. But I oddly liked it. It’s not going to become a staple concealer by any means and I might not even repurchase it in the future but right now it seems to be a nice quick and easy concealer for me. I started wearing it on weekends as I liked how it brightened by eye area up and also, I felt like Medium 25 was a great match and melded to my skin nicely giving me a very natural appearance as if I wasn’t wearing makeup at all. Of course, that feeling doesn’t last as there is the creasing issue.

All this being said, I think it might prove a nice pick for those with a smoother under eye area than my own and oily skin. It might apply smoother and look smoother on someone with an oily eye area that isn’t finely lined.

Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer is worth a try if you have younger eyes and oily skin!

Target Walmart Ulta Walgreens

Maybelline Super Stay Full Coverage Under-Eye Concealer is a new matte, long-wearing concealer that launched in 12 shade selections for Summer 2019 that will be apart of the brand’s permanent line of products. Sadly, as per marketing this did not wear 24 hours on me nor did it provide full coverage. I got about six hours of wear from it and almost medium coverage. It was quite brightening and woke up my tired eyes quite nicely. However, it applies a bit patchy and needs a little work to get the smoothest coverage. It does crease very quickly though into my finer lines. The creamier, thinner formula was quite a nice texture and I loved how it brightened my eye area up but I think it might be a better product for those without finer lines and oily skin. Unlike my own eyes which do have finer lines and are drier.
