2 stars out of 5

Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain ($6) is a new lip stain that acts as a creamy lipgloss. You know me! I love a good lip stain! I used to be a fond fan of Morgen Schick’s Schick Stick when that was a thing in a beauty life far in the past. I’ve always just favorite lip and cheek stain especially when I was younger and not quite yet into heavy duty eyeshadow and blush. I also happen to still very much love them for days I just want something quick to slick on my lips for a quick wash of color that will last all day!

Nowadays stains are a lot more common and they come in a range of different formulas and colors (yeah, back in the day pink and mauve red was the only shades you could get). There are a lot of hybrid formulas as well like this Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain.

Please, take this review with a grain of salt because I do think the color caused performance issues for me. Right now, I’ve given it two out of five stars but that rating may change if I decide to try another shade and have better results.

Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain is available in 11 shades selections and I believe they launched earlier in the year for Spring 2020. They come housed in a 0.11 oz rounded barrel and have a flat sponge applicator for application that saturates well with color.

I got the shade Angel Whip which looks like a pretty peachy pink nude in the barrel but applies much lighter and has a nude flesh tone that gives me a rather bad case of zombie lips! This formula is lovely. It’s had an airy quality with a lightly creamy texture that feels very moisturizing. It has a very light fruity sweet flavor but I can’t pinpoint what exactly that is. It does disappear quickly once I applied it though. Sadly, the formula applies very streaky and it looks like I have a severely dry lips even though my lips, which are typically prone to being dry, are fine right now. The color doesn’t look smooth or even once applied and had a really patchy, streaky, uneven appearance. It’s a shame because I actually like the formula a lot! It feels lightweight, creamy, and it has a nice glossiness to the finish. To get around the streaky finish I apply a little clear gloss on top! I can’t say I notice a stain effect though. This wears for around an hour and a half as it does fade fast and during that time it does sort of migrate o the corners of my mouths and up to my upper lip line. As it does I’d say it leaves a little bit of a reddish pink stain behind but that wipes away and isn’t lasting.

I’d like to try another shade though and see if I have better results because I actually really like the formula. I’d go so far as to blame some of the streakiness on the fleshy peach tone of the stain. It’s just not a flattering color and it separates and applies patchy. If I do try another shade I will revise my review with thoughts.

Anyone try Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain? I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain is a fairly new lip stain that launched for Spring 2020 in 11 shades for $6 each that are 0.11 oz each. This formula is actually quite lovely and has a cream gloss-like texture that was moisturizing, glossy in finish, and felt very comfortable on my lips. Sadly, it applied very streaky and patchy and the wear was short at around 90 minutes with some migration issues.

Pros

  • Creamy, lightweight, pigmented.
  • Affordable.
  • Sponge saturates well with color.
  • Wears comfortably.

Cons

  • Shorter wear.
  • Lightly flavored.
  • Applies streaky.
  • No lasting staining effect.

Who

Hard Candy Syrup Kiss Lip Stain is a good pick if you don’t mind doctoring the formula with a little clear gloss to make it smoother.

My first stain, iirc, was Stila. Like a marker, and I got 3 that looked minimally different. No cream, just like magic marker on your lips. Big no. Will enjoy your take on the ABH, should you choose to get it.

I love colors like that, but they look zombie-esque on me too. What I do is take a darker brownish lip liner and use that in a thick line around the lips then fill in the center with the zombie color and blot it outwards. Colourpop BFF3 has saved me from throwing away some too light shades!

I’m gonna try that! Thanks! because I have so many lighter shades that I feel like will look good on me but there’s no contrast to offset that zombie finish lol!

I read your posts a lot and rarely comment but I really wanted to know if you’ve tried the Urban Decay Vice Lip Chemistry! I picked up a couple at the big Ulta sale a little while back bc I really wanted more color on my lips when I go outside but didn’t like lip color sticking to the inside of my mask. I picked up Pink Slip and Physique (Stacked turned too blue for me). Tastes a little bitter but otherwise works awesome.

I have a slew of these and would you believe I have not tried them yet!? def have too! you reminded me ;-D

Oh no! I have a few of these (not Angel Whip) and I love them. I picked them up as soon as they came out and have a coral, berry and a bright pink. The colors are pigmented but translucent as you would expect in a gloss. The gloss part isn’t super shiny but the balmy feel lasts for several hours. The stain part lasts most of the day and it’s not patchy for me. I always have problems with super light colors so I tend to avoid them.

Ok, this convinced me I need to try another shade because I thought it MIGHT be the shade that I was having a problem with and you’ve proved the theory correct 😀

OMG, did you know that I first stumbled across you BECAUSE of your Morgen Schick post!?!? That is what brought me into your world, and I have been a loyal reader ever since! xoxo

I have this in the shade Don’t Be Jelly. I’ve always gravitated towards darker lip color, but the green was definitely an impulse buy. I do have to take my time applying but I think that is due to the straight applicator. I like layering the green over reds because it make a purple/black situation. It does wear well on it’s own though. I would say it has a few hours of wear and then fades into a pale green, definitely not the cutest look. But after reapplying the stain gets darker throughout the day. The fruity smell is not my favorite but the texture is unlike anything I’ve tried before. I recommend if your not afraid of a BOLD lip. *Warning* The stain will leave you looking like a corpse

I tried the shadw hot kiss and ir seems fine. Applies semi glossy, feels a lot like airy lip balm. The stain seems to last me a few hours and the second later application definitely even outs rhe stain side for me, otherwise it will be darker on the edges. That may just be me, though, cuz pretty much all lip products do that to me.
