Things I Love This Week: Madam Butterfly, The DoorDash Dude, An Eye Gel, and a Mini Fridge for My Skincare

You may want to sit down and create a love list this week to remind yourself to take joy in the little things that life throws at you! I seriously cherish the small stuff because even the most mundane things can make your day so much better.

Things I love this week:

This week I rediscovered my joy of listening to Madam Butterfly. I forgot how much I loved it and how it can bring me to tears. Typically my cooking play list always contains some sort of Broadway soundtrack (It’s not unheard for me to be singing “JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR Do you think you’re what they say you are?” off key while I cook or bake), an opera, or the Pride and Prejudice Soundtrack (because that sh1t never gets old! I can close my eyes when I play it and clearly see Mr Darcy walking through a field in his long coat as dawn breaks over the horizon). I haven’t played Madam Butterfly in ages and I did so while cooking my ratatouille this week! And I promptly sat down and started crying. It’s so beautifully done it just brings tears to my eyes every single time I hear it. I sat there bawling over half cooked eggplant. Thankfully, my soft heart tears didn’t create some magical Like Water for Chocolate moment.

Up next I really appreciate you Doordash dude that brought my Avo toast and a candy bar! This week I decided I needed to find out what all the hype was about the Dunkin Avo Toast (not convinced I like it! More testing required!). I got on Doordash and ordered some up. Typically I ask the Doordasher to leave it on my front porch so it’s safe for me and safe for him or her. As I was waiting I realized the night before my Amazon ordered showed up so I slapped on my mask and went to grab the box from outside where UPS carelessly flung it (lately UPS likes to just throw it in the snow as my normal guy is on vacay and the temporary guy apparently could care less!) and happened to run into my dasher at the same time dropping off the Avo toast. So, yeah, here I am 6:00 in the morning in my snoopy PJs with crazy hair holding an Amazon box. I think I startled this kid completely because he stood their for a second looked at me like I lost it and ran back to his car carrying my Dunkin bag. I sat there dumbstruck for a second. Where was he going with my order? Did my crazy hair scare him? Was he going to return my Avo Toast to Dunkin as undelivered? Would I be banned from Doordash? I really wanted to try it though! Was he going to call the cops on me for wandering aimlessly around in PJs? As I worried about the status of my Avo toast he dashed back to me and handed me the Dunkin bag and a chocolate bar to which he said, “You looked so confused, lost, and cute standing there I thought you could use a chocolate bar!” He handed me a chocolate Payday and the Dunkin bag and left me standing their with my mouth open before I could thank him. Thank you Doordash dude! You made my day with your random act of kindness! Nice people do exist! My whole Dunkin order cost $10.81 but I rounded it up to $100 so he could keep the rest and know randomly being nice to a people is always appreciated!

Another thing I love this week is Biossance Squalane + Peptide Eye Gel! I love this stuff. Full disclosure you can’t use this alone as it’s just not hydrating enough for extra dry eyes like mine. But it’s a mini miracle if you use it in conjunction wit their Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream! The combination of the two give my eyes a supercharged boost of moisture and hydration. My finer lines are instantly eased, my concealer applies so much more smoother, and my eyes look well rested and very moist. You can use this with any eye cream you have! It layers beautifully with other eye creams and seems to draw moisture to the eye area.

And last but not least I actually really love the Personal Chiller LED Lighted Mini Fridge from Walmart. I have a larger mini fridge built into my bathroom vanity but I recently decided I wanted a smaller one to put on my vanity in my bedroom. I picked up a random one at the evil empire and didn’t think I’d even use because typically some of these mini fridges don’t work great. But this is wonderful! It has a mirror on the front with a touch LED light so you can use it as a mirror and two shelves inside for holding skincare essentials. It isn’t huge but it will hold skincare essentials easily. It also cools them very, very well without any condensation issues. The fan is a bit loud just to warn you but aside from that it’s a really nice little mini fridge and a mere $32!

Remember to rejoice in the little things this week!

Enjoy the random acts of kindness thrown your way.

And be nice to those around you because you never know what sort of woe that person is experiencing.

About the Muse

Isabella MuseIsabella is just an average everyday geeky girl who doesn’t blend her eyeshadow correctly, wears too much blush, and hopes she never finds her holy grail products because she likes the thrill of the chase so much. Her mission is to bring you super honest reviews on makeup, skincare, fragrance and all things beauty. She’s in no way an expert on the topic and she sure as hell isn’t a super model. Thanks for your post, Isabelle! Made me smile when I read it with my coffee. How is the Dunkin Avo Toast? What makes it so unique/special? 2nd, love that the Doordash guy did that – so awesome. And lastly, thanks for the post about the Biossance Eye Cream/Gel, maybe I’ll try it next after my current eye cream runs out (there’s a $7 mini sample set you can buy on Biossance’s website). Is this a weekly thing — you’ll post about things you love on a weekly basis? If so, I’m all for it!!!

Aw my pleasure Wendy! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I’ve been doing these little love lists for a while now! Check back in the archives!
      Here’s a few:

I’ve been doing them time to time! I may make them a weekly thing if you enjoy them 🙂

It’s interesting……! I’m not sure I like it! It sort of has this lemony taste which was good and the everything but the bagel gives it a nice saltiness but the avo was a bit too smooth! I like it a bit chunkier! The bread was a little soggy as well but that could be because it got a little weird during travel! I need to try it again to see if I do like it or not haha! Very awesome. Just completely random and nice! 🙂 I always feel a bit surprise when someone goes out of their way to be nice and life shouldn’t be like that ya know? We should expect some kindness from strangers and we should give it back to them! But living in NY those nice little bits are far and few! Do it! It’s quite nice under other eye creams imho! Awesome! $7 is a better investment to try before you buy!

      • Wendy

Nice! Haha, I still think the best avo toast is the kind you make yourself! 🙂

        • Isabella Muse

Agreed!!!! You can just customize it anyway you want and not pay $18 for it ;D

  • Christina

Wow! That is a generous tip! You must have made his day as well!

I must try that Biossance eye gel. I have been looking at it forever, but the price is pretty high and I didn’t know anyone personally who tried it. I can’t trust Sephora reviews. Heh. But since you like it, I’ll give it a go.

I love my Naruko Magnolia serum. Not only does it smell beautiful (thanks to the magnolia extracts), it’s just so effective at brightening skin. I’ve used so many bottles of it and don’t see myself stopping anytime soon. I’m also loving the results of my microneedling. LOL! I tend to get it every now and then, but covid kind of stopped me from getting it all last year. Nothing like a good glow and bounce from a microneedling session.

And last, so, so, thankful for my mom. Not only does she like to cook (hot meals all the time), she also helps me with my kitty who is a handful. Without her, I think me and my husband would go nuts. Haha.

    • Isabella Muse

it was very well deserved. I hope it made him smile the way he made me smile! I even took the time out to write doordash and tell them how outstanding he was. Not sure it’ll do anything for him but maybe they’ll pass on the feedback that the weird lady in her pajamas appreciated him! Don’t buy it to use alone! It sucks alone imho! But it seems to really bring something to my eye cream when I layer. Wait for a sale! They have sales a lot on their website where they knock certain items down 50% off. Which microneedle are you using? I start using a textured roller and I’m liking the results but thought maybe I’d start microneedling home too! I NEED UPDATED kitty pics! 🙂 The ones I have of my nephew are old! His auntie wants new one ;-D Awww that’s so sweet! Your mom appreciates you too I’m sure 🙂

      • Christina

I dunno! I think I give my mom a headache. I’m much more appreciative of her. LOL!

I get the microneedling done at a derm/plastic surgeon’s office. I tried the GloPro microneedling at home and didn’t like it so much. I have no idea why it irritates my skin so badly. At least with a pro session, I know to expect a bit of tightness or redness for a few days and then I’m glowing to the heavens, but the home device just irritated my skin. It’s probably me, as I have sensitive skin and was probably too heavy handed combining it with my retin-a. If you do use a home device, my friends like the Rodan and Fields one and some like the GloPro. You’re in NY, though, there are several reputable places to go to at a reasonable price. I recommend trying a pro session at least once.

Will send you updated pictures of my monster. They grow so fast from little kitten to…older kitten? LOL! He’s only 4.5 months, so I think that’s still considered a kitten, right?

        • Isabella Muse

Oh girl! Moms are built for this stuff 🙂 they thrive on it and love us no matter what! I’d actually love to try it at home since I’m all antsy about COVID! But I’m also a little concerned it’ll make me system but who am I kidding? I have alligator skin lol! Yayyy! Looking forward to it! Haha he’s a toddler now!

Un bel di? Niiiice. Love Puccini arias. Payday w/chocolate? Omgwtfsaveme! Much more tempted to drive for that than to trot down the hill to see if Dunkies in Mass has avo toast. Having the mirror on the mini fridge is a great idea! Wally has some terrific merch (including online the only place I know for a Reese’s PB fix of 4 jars. You see why I need peanut rehab…). Love that it’s warm enough for even the girl dog to walk today. The birds are nesting. I might not have to use my new mini snow blower. Scaled down things can be fabulous.

    • Isabella Muse

sigh! Un bel di vedremo evokes such emotion! LOL! I know right? I didn’t even know payday chocolate existed! What magic is this? I’m on the fence about their avo toast still! To be continued on that! Yeah! The mirror is cool! Has an switch to turn it on and off and it’s quite bright! LOL I hear you on the PB addiction! Right there with ya! It’s nice here too! 50 out and sunny. Finally. The streets are wet, snow is still piled around but finally a little Spring is in the air! Yes, they can be can’t they!? 🙂

  • Jane

That’s an adorable story about the Doordash guy.

    Let’s see…
    – I have all my seeds waiting to get planted (which means I have to bite the bullet and buy the stuff to make my soil blocks for the first time!!)
    – While my progress is slow, I continue to practice my Arabic and Italian
    – it’s going to be 60 in Minnesota this weekend and I may expire of joy.
    – Five of the books on my hold shelf are waiting at the library! I love the library!

    • Isabella Muse

Truly a nice gesture on his part! Chocolate? I’ll take it 🙂 haha! I’m waiting a little longer to do my tulips! The ground is still a little too firm! What are you planting? Good for you learning new languages! 🙂 All these beautiful little things are perfect for putting a smile on your face ;-D Love your list!

    • kjh

Arabic? Awesome. I did a little a couple of decades ago. The spoken was ok, but but the writing was brutal.as glorious as the Islamic calligraphy looks, the idea that letters take different shapes depending on beginning, middle, or end of the word just killed me.

  • MDW

I consider the even most ordinary activities with husband as going on a date with him. We just got back from the grocery store.

  • Kimmwc03

That was a really nice story about the Doordasher. I’m all for this being a weekly thing!

This week I’ve been grateful for warmer weather in the DC area. Spring is almost here! Although, I will not be seeing too many cherry blossoms from my house (just on the drive to/from work).

I’ve also been loving eyeshadow sticks again. Not sure why I ever stopped using them. And, thanks for your concealer tips post the other day. I’m going to try using eye gel with cream.

    • Isabella Muse

It was really nice when it happened haha 😀 very unexpected, random act of kindness! Haha I’ll do my best to keep it a weekly thing! Here too! It’s so sunny and beautiful out today! Take pics when they bloom! I’d love to see ;-D Oooo I hope it helps <3! 🙂 Let me know how it goes!

  • Debbie

Belting out opera arias, show tunes, Eurovision favorites, and tracks from movie musicals in the key of h flat is my jam. The soundtrack from The Greatest Showman always gets to me. And yesterday I was singing Whatever Lola Wants, Lola gets from Damn Yankees. (my nickname at work is Lola.) I was tempted by DD’s avocado toast.

    • Isabella Muse

LOL oh gosh! Whenever I think of Lola Wants it Lola Gets it I think of Lolascents (she’s a sweet fragrance reviewer)! Girl, I wish I can belt out opera arias haha! I hum alone but I can’t sing an opera ;-D LOL! But hey, that’s the fune of it right? I have a mini broadway musical in my kitchen all by myself as I cook dinner ;-D Where I play all the roles! Let me if you try it! I’m not convinced I like it!
